Spike really edits this movie. Did not get to even here my favorite Worm line. "In the card game of life, women are the f'n rake"
"Mr. Son of a Monster... let's play some cards."

Awful dubbing.
That was terrible.

Hey, Ryan, be careful what you shoot at. Most things in here don't react too well to bullets.
Yeah...nothing worse than a Scottish/Russian accent...by far worse than Teddy KGB.

There's a TV edit floating around that cuts out most of the card-playing scenes: nothing from the hearts game Worm ran in prison, no scenes from the trust fund d-bag game where Mike fell off the poker wagon, no mention of Worm telling that doctor from ER "no speaking Sputnik" at the Chesterfield, and several minutes of Mike building up the bankroll at several games around town got boiled down to a 4-5 second montage. The table at the Trump Taj Mahal with all the Chesterfield regulars is trimmed if not eliminated, too. That version only includes the full card scenes from both Teddy KGB games, the Binghamton Beatdown, Mike watching Johnny Chan slowplay Slidel on video from an old WSOP, and Mike bluffing Chan off a hand at the Trump.
that sounds completely terrible on every level.... who would do that?

Poor example. The more parts cut out of Titanic, the better.

Anyone who has ever been in a relationship while trying to gamble in peace wants to choke Gretchen Mol to death. She must be a good actress.
This should be it's own topic. Or at the very least a sub topic within the wagering thread. I love my family more then anything, but Gambling (Poker/Sports) is a hobby that I love and balancing them can be tough.

Brother, I could tell you stories, and I've never even been married.- On vacation in the middle of nowhere, getting dirty looks because I'm checking scores on my phone.

- Wondering aloud how many pairs of shoes I could have bought her with "that money you're losing"...

- "YOU'D RATHER WATCH THAT STUPID FOOTBALL GAME THAN LISTEN TO ME!!!"

Ummmm, yeah.

I'm staying single forever. No question about it.

That Trump scene with Chan makes absolutely no sense.

 Kate Winslet getting painted like one of his French girls scene was pretty good but I otherwise agree.

This was just on again, and something occurred to me that I never realized before. When Mike beats Teddy in the final game, Teddy rants and raves but finally says "He beat me, straight up. Pay that man his money." But then Grama flips over a chair in anger, sending chips flying everywhere. What exactly is HE pissed about??? He still got his $15K. Would he have preferred that Mike lost, in which case he could beat the crap out of him in the morning, however he wouldn't get his money back. Please splain.

What happens if KGB wins that game? KGB seems like he'd be smart enough to use Mike's skills to pay him back + extra. I mean you can beat the guy half to death, but where does that get you? The next day, he still doesn't have the money, and he's just likely to disappear. Move to Europe or something and work his way back up playing cards. I dunno. Gramma seems like a sicko, maybe he just wanted to beat his ###. Or get his hooks in even deeper. Or maybe he's just a company man.

I agree the reaction seems off. He would be upset at the chance to lean on Mike for the next few years of his life. I'm sure he saw thousands of dollars of interest go out the door when Mike won. But with that being said he only loaned Worm a few K if I remember right, and unless Mike stepped up Worm would have been difficult to track down and even if he did find him you cant get blood from stone. Figure Gramma chops up the extra 10ish K with KGB and he pockets a few grand for a weeks work. I'm not sure thats worth being THAT upset about it, in fact in some ways I'm sure he would be happy. I'm sure they added the whole "meathead gets upset" angle just to add to Mikes victory at the end.

I could never figure that out either. I guess he was so incensed by Mike's insinuation that one can smell Grama from afar that he had hoped he'd have a chance to break him off some. However, why not collect his 15 large and then just kick Mike's ### for insulting him? What was Mike going to do about it, sic Knish on him?

Does Grama really look like a guy with a plan? You know what he is? He's a dog chasing cars. He wouldn't know what to do with one if he caught it! You know, he just *does* things.
I guess once you graduate to wearing one-piece thermal pajamas and a Kangol all day, you just do whatever, whenever.

Grama's still gotta be the bad cop. If Teddy rolls over for Mike, Grama can't too, he's still gotta say "f it, we're still the boss around here" and keep Mike in his place. Alpha dog stuff.

That Trump scene with Chan makes absolutely no sense.
Do you mean Mike's tale of the Chan encounter? Someone brought this up at MovieMistakes.com

Question: The story Mike tells of out playing Johnny Chan makes no sense if you do the math on all the raises. He sits down at a $300-$600 no limit table with $6,000, plays for an hour, and "folds mostly". Johnny opens for a raise, standard raise 3X the Big Blind ($1800). He re-raises, a good re-raise would be around $6,000, effectively putting him all-in. The story continues with Johnny re-raising ($20,000 or so), and finally Mike re-raising one last time, with an I.O.U. I assume. Johnny then folds.Reply: It's a 300/600 limit game. With blinds of 100/300, Johnny's first raise would be to 600 (which is seen when he throws out 6 black chips), Mike' raise would be to 900, Johnny's second raise would be to 1200 (which is seen when he throws out another 6 black chips), and finally Mike's raise would be to 1500.

That is incredibly dumb but I doubt many caught it at the time. Very few people played poker then.

I assumed it was NL. Doesn't Knish say he needs to sit with $60,000 to play that game right? Kind of conservative for LHE.

Even more conservative for NL. I would've laughed in Johnny's face if it went down like that. At the time, however, it looked like he owned him. Poor Johnny...

I've always wondered this too. He bought the debt for pennies and juiced it. Mike came through for him. What if mike loses? Were they planning on locking him in a basement to handle all their legal work for a couple of years or something??
