San Francisco 49ers - link to new 2023 thread in latest post (3 Viewers)

Twitter seems to think the 49ers are gonna package that 5th rounder with another pick and make one more trade, maybe for an interior D-lineman.

They better hurry, 24 minutes left....

Lombardi:

Why did 49ers feel a 5th rounder in return for Jeff Wilson was significant enough?

Because in 5th round, this regime has drafted:

George Kittle
D.J. Reed
Dre Greenlaw
Talanoa Hufanga
Samuel Womack III

SF is confident in its scouting department's ability to unearth talent there.

Yeah, was glad it was a 5th and not a 3rd. They suck in the 3rd round

They weren't gonna get a 3rd for Wilson.

Edit: you're not wrong tho

I'm aware ;)

Thanks for the Title change @Wingnut

I know the Miami fan base is completely fired up this afternoon, you thought Tyreek Hill was a big splash? Nick Chubb...They're insinuating a return to Pal Alto, the fan base is ready to go all in, Grier was ready to push his chips in and not many people seem to realize we added a RB that won't make splashy headlines and might not see a lot of touches next week but I assure you he is the perfect compliment to Mostert and gives us a legit chance to run the football on drives when teams are dropping 6 and 7 trying to cover all that speed we present at WR and TE.

I promise we'll look after both of them and I know they are not elite RBs but they do all the things this offense needs right now in order to progress forward the rest of the year.
You'll see Jeff and Raheem and Mike very soon, in about 3 weeks we will be making a visit to the Bay area before stopping at So-Fi the following week before the return.

Wanted Kareem Hunt, you all got Christian McCaffrey and we got a Jeff Wilson instead.
Cheers from South Beach

Jason Verrett out for the season (again) after tearing his Achilles tendon in practice today. I think his NFL career is over now.

Looks like the young guys are gonna have to hold down the CB2 spot. Our pass rush is gonna need to ramp it up.

I wish theyd sign a damn pass rusher, it doesn't sound like Armstead is close to playing yet.

Verrett is Mr. Glass. Anything and everything has gone wrong for him. Not a loss really since he wasn't playing. May be better in the long haul for the young guys - Thomas, Lenoir, Womack - to play and develop. Hope they can handle it.
Chargers without Allen and Williams aren't as daunting. As much as I love Herbert as a QB, the Chargers should be ripe for the taking because their offense has been lacking big-plays, and their run defense is lacklustre. Good recipe for the 49ers to come out with the W/

Guy is cursed

Really good CB and an excellent competitor. Worked his butt off to get back to where he was a #1 type CB in 2020.

Sucks for him

49ers' injury report for Chargers:

Arik Armstead - Out
Samson Ebukam - Doubtful

Dre Greenlaw and Elijah Mitchell are back this week.

With Ekubam most likely out, I wanna see Drake Jackson get more snaps.

Jackson’s pressure rate compared to some rookie edge rushers that were drafted in the 1st round

Drake Jackson - 9.4% (61st pick)
George Karlaftis - 8.9% (30th pick)
Aidan Hutchinson - 8.8% (2nd pick)
Jermaine Johnson II- 6.4% (26th pick)
Travon Walker - 6.4% (1st pick)

Lol

Odell Beckham Jr. would like to whittle down his current list of potential teams -- which includes the Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers -- as soon as possible and have a decision by the end of this month, league sources told ESPN.

Each of those teams is expected to at least be a contender to advance in the postseason, an area where Beckham helped the Los Angeles Rams win last season's Super Bowl.

Beckham wants to play for a contender, and league sources are predicting that his eventual compensation package could be similar on a prorated basis to some of the free agent deals signed last offseason by fellow wide receivers such as Chris Godwin and Mike Williams, each of whom makes an average of $20 million per year.

SF is practicing in Colorado to acclimate to heightened elevation, but it’s >50 degrees colder there than in Mexico City. I think Shanahan may be overthinking these travel decisions.

Why not just go to Mexico City? It's not like it's a 9 hour flight.

Riiiiiiight.

"Shanahan indicated that the 49ers had at least some degree of interest in veteran defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who will sign instead with the Eagles. Suh played under 49ers defensive line coach Kris Kocurek when they were in Detroit together from 2010 to 2014."

Some degree of interest. Pfffft.

49ers have been practicing all week in Colorado. Arizona stayed home all week.

I wonder how that's gonna play out.

I can see both defenses being gassed in the 4th quarter and some late points being scored.

Security and food/water issues. Don’t want the whole team going Lamar in the 2nd half.

Last 3 Games:

Jimmy Garoppolo - No INTs

49ers Defense - 0 2nd half pts allowed

Also, we're 4-0 vs the division.

  1. San Francisco 49ers - 52
  2. Pittsburgh Steelers - 51
  3. Dallas Cowboys - 49
  4. Miami Dolphins - 43
  5. Las Vegas Raiders - 42

Nick Wagoner:

49ers record in Jimmy Garoppolo's last 14 starts in which he doesn't throw an interception:

14-0

That's the longest such streak by any starting quarterback in Niners history, breaking a tie with Joe Montana and Colin Kaepernick with tonight's win.

No FF talk or whining about who got what TDs

-****ing awesome beating Arizona last night. I love that Coach Kliff is falling off a cliff after falling into the Playoffs last year.
-Their offense is hot garbage and they have committed a King's ransom to Murray and with paying him $50M a year now, gonna be hard to build out the rest of the team
-They are going to have to hire another coach and Murray will make them look terrible as well.
-Arizona is going to be in hell for years to come, that does not make me happy but I have hated the way Murray was ushered into the league and Coach Kliff hiring not much better than the Jeff Saturday hiring out of left field, not sure Coach KK would be the HC on any of the other 31 NFL teams and that tells you all you need to know.

San Fran looks incredible and I know of one other team that runs a somewhat similar offense and is being praised a lot right now in the AFC
We used to call Miami...East Dallas because of all the Cowboys who seemed to float thru there in the last 10-20 years
Would now change that to San Francisco-Far East with everything that Mike McDaniel continues to do.
McDaniel-Sherfield-WR(he's been great), Mostert and Wilson, there's a lot here with San Fran roots, looking forward to playing a real team in a couple weeks and getting an idea where Miami is at. I hope you all are looking forward to seeing us as well.

Cheers!

Getting the Dolphins and Bucs back to back is gonna be tough. Miami scares me way more, I think we handle Tampa pretty easily.

As a Rams fan I hate saying this but IMO they are favorites to win NFC and I give them a heck of a chance to win the SB. Scary good and they are just toying with foes now. Need to beat a good team but I wouldn’t bet against them the rest of the way

Didn't think it would be possible to get higher than #3 but with the way the Vikings looked, #2 is a definitely possibility.

Al Sacco on Twitter:

Eli Mitchell last 3 games
18 carries 89 yards (4.9 YPA)
9 carries 59 yards (6.6 YPA)
7 carries 35 yards (5 YPA)

Christian McCaffrey last 3 games
14 carries 38 yards (2.7 YPA)
7 carries 39 yards (5.6 YPA)
11 carries 32 yards (2.9 YPA)

Worth watching if Mitchell misses time

Mitchell hurt and may miss time again, Cmac got dinged a bit, Burford has an ankle injury...

Hoping for good news on Mitchell

I think we discussed that keeping Wilson was cheap insurance. Still don't get trading him when Mitchell is dinged a lot

The 49ers lost two key players in the game. Running back Elijah Mitchell and guard Spencer Burford exited with injuries. Mitchell was ruled out with a knee injury, while Burford was sidelined due to an ankle injury.

After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Mitchell may have suffered another MCL sprain of his knee, but it's not believed to be as severe as the one he sustained in Week 1. However, he will likely miss some time. The previous MCL injury forced the running back to miss seven games.

Burford suffered an ankle sprain. The good news is that it's not believed to be a high-ankle sprain.

In other 49ers injury news, running back Christian McCaffrey is dealing with some knee irritation, and wide receiver Deebo Samuel suffered a quad contusion. Both players returned to the game after their injuries occurred.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo took a significant hit to his left knee. He appeared to be in pain after the impact but remained in the game.

"Jimmy, he took some hits today," Shanahan said. "I don't have anything exactly on him, but I know he's sorer than usual, so we'll check him up in here and see how he is tomorrow. But he had a very gutty performance. I know he got hit a bunch in this game, and I didn't see the hit on that. I was looking down the field. But when I looked back, and he was on the ground, you could tell it was pretty physical just by his reaction."

Yep. Mason and Price better be good.
No need. Cmac not being fed enough anyway.
Shanahan typically only uses 2 RBs in games, and likes then to be somewhat even in carries. If the goal is to run 35÷ times, one RB will get around 18-20, the other 10-15, and WR/FB/QBwould get a few.

So Mason and/or Price is gonna need to help carry the load.

FWIW, looks like Wilson was asking out.
Yeah, but they didn't have to move him just because he asked. Nice thing to do and all, but now they are going to be using a rookie RB for a few weeks.

Yep, I would have kept him. I’ll be interested in whether they pull up Coleman again or give Davis-Price the call while Mitchell and maybe McCaffrey are out.

Looks like rain and temps in the 50s for Sundays game. That might help slow down the Dolphins offense a bit.

This is the only game left on the schedule that worries me, but we might get Armstead back this week, which would be HUGE for our D line and pass rush.

Lombardi on Twitter:

Saw Christian McCaffrey in the 49ers’ locker room wearing a jersey and walking around without issue. Fact McCaffrey had his jersey on suggests that he was preparing to take part in today’s walk-through (he’s already been ruled out of practice), which is a positive sign for SF

Later:

Christian McCaffrey was indeed out at walk-through. Even had his helmet on. He came off the field as the 49ers were starting practice, but indeed a good sign

49ers' Wednesday practice situation, in summary:

NO PRACTICE
Charles Omenihu (knee irritation)
Christian McCaffrey (knee irritation)
Elijah Mitchell (IR likely)

LIMITED
Deebo Samuel (hamstring)
Arik Armstead (foot/ankle)
Spencer Burford (ankle)
