Is there any drawback here other than a pissed off Pot?

Belling broke this? It has not been officially proposed but if you listen to his third hour of his podcast, you can here it. About the 5:45 mark or so.what? Where do you see this? The Journal doesn't even have it on their website. Are you some kind of political insider?Wow, the Indians are playing hard ball aren't they?
That is a tough deal to pass up.
$200 million for the arena... no strings attached.

Really, ya don't say......Seminole of Florida...
Why would this affect his presidential run? Why do GOP people in Iowa care about this?Wow, the Indians are playing hard ball aren't they?

So a tribe from Florida wants to come in and compete, and in essence, take money away from tribes in Wisconsin.. And this is a good thingits in the journal today. This will demonstrate exactly why I hate all politicians. He will probably still say no even though every concern he has expressed will be addressed.
Only possible reason why he would say no then? Money given to him personally.

As far as Iowa, the group stated they are against casinos, I am not sure if they are against casinos in thier own state, but ultimately they are stating they are against them and this conflicts with their beliefs. So supporting Walker in the Iowa caucas would not happen if this casion deal goes through.
The reports are that the new group would indemnify the state for losses in such a suit - as Fantasy_Freak states, any losses the state would incur would be "covered" by the Menomonie group. Its an interesting situation. The most amazing thing for me is that the citizens of southeastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois apparently collectively have several hundreds of millions to lose gambling each year. It is amazing how profitable these businesses are.So the Potowotami would not sue, we know this?As a part of the deal the Menomonie would cover the expected losses the Potowatomi would experience with a new casino in Kenosha, the state would not be on the hook for this. Why would this affect his presidential run? I agree with your statement, where is the money coming from to generate the business plan that has you paying all this millions of dollars. The other thing to keep in the back of your mind is that approximately 15 to 30 miles from this site is another casino (Harrah's) that has been approved in Waukegan, Illinois. So now you have another casino that would be skimming from your "customer base".The reports are that the new group would indemnify the state for losses in such a suit - as Fantasy_Freak states, any losses the state would incur would be "covered" by the Menomonie group. Will be interesting to see how he plays this one though. He can't put this back on Doyle's compact seeing as the tribe is paying Potowatomi for income lost with the new casino, thus taking the state off the hook. Hmmm, grammar is not my strong suit but is 'bribe' really the right word here? You don't bribe someone to allow you to exercise your liberties, rather the individual/group who is preventing you from exercising your liberties extorts you in exchange for allowing you to exercise your liberties.Mr.Pack said:No chance Walker accepts this "Bribe" for the state. he would get crucified for it and any chance (slim as it may be) at a presidential run would be over.Wow, the Indians are playing hard ball aren't they?

And why would Walker get crucified for 'approving' a casino? It seems like that would be an issue for the social conservative/ Santorum types, who are becoming more and more irrelevant for anything but fundraising.
agree to disagree.. even IF the Florida tribe promised to cover any loses to the Wisconsin tribes, it still doesn't mean the Wisconsin tribes wouldn't sue based on the pact signed by Doyle.Or, in some cases, its called "good business."
There is always an exchange of something when it comes to agreements. So, I guess, every decision has a "bribe" factor to it, huh?
Walker screwed the pooch here big time.
That's the nature of an indemnity - no one can prevent a third party from exercising its right to sue, but a party can agree to indemnify another for any claims made or lawsuits filed, including all costs and damages incurred. Personally, I can't claim to understand all the issues and politics involved in this and don't have a strong opinion on it, but I do think the use of the term "bribe" seems misplaced and perhaps chosen mainly to convey a negative association. A "bribe" in the classic sense infers something secret or some form of misconduct. It this case, at least as far as I understand it, the party is simply improving its offer after the first proposal was rejected.agree to disagree.. even IF the Florida tribe promised to cover any loses to the Wisconsin tribes, it still doesn't mean the Wisconsin tribes wouldn't sue based on the pact signed by Doyle.Or, in some cases, its called "good business."

Speaking at the Chatham House foreign policy think tank London, Walker was asked: "Are you comfortable with the idea of evolution? Do you believe in it?"
"For me, I am going to punt on that one as well," he said. "That's a question politicians shouldn't be involved in one way or another. I am going to leave that up to you. I'm here to talk about trade, not to pontificate about evolution."
Translation: Yes I believe in evolution, HOWEVER, I'm dependent upon the support of the synaptically-challenged. If you ask me again, I'll continue to deceive.Dodges evolution question.

Holy. ####. RT @costareports: Walker: "I dont know" if President Obama is a Christian http://wapo.st/1waXaf1
“I don’t know,” Walker said in an interview at the JW Marriott hotel in Washington, where he was attending the winter meeting of the National Governors Association.
Told that Obama has frequently spoken publicly about his Christian faith, Walker maintained that he was not aware of the president’s religion.
“I’ve actually never talked about it or I haven’t read about that,” Walker said, his voice calm and firm. “I’ve never asked him that,” he added. “You’ve asked me to make statements about people that I haven’t had a conversation with about that. How [could] I say if I know either of you are a Christian?”
Walker said such questions from reporters are reflective of a broader problem in the nation’s political-media culture, which he described as fixated on issues that are not relevant to most Americans.
“To me, this is a classic example of why people hate Washington and, increasingly, they dislike the press,” he said. “The things they care about don’t even remotely come close to what you’re asking about.”
Actually he was casting doubt on the reporters ability to ask an intelligent question concerning stuff that effects people. He is casting doubt on Obama's faith, following on the heels of Guiliani's claim the Obama "Does not love America". Good try, but that was his exact answer to the question if Obama was a Christian. One can only imagine the outrage on the right if he said the same thing about John Boehner, "I don't know" if he is a Christian". No one has ever questioned the faith of prominent political figures on the right, but with Obama this issue has been constantly raised and Walker played into that narrative. This was the proverbial dog whistle.Actually, you did a pretty poor job of splicing out one sentence in a long article.
Walker actually explained his answer a little bit more. Maybe not to your liking nor to a reader's liking (anti-Obama) but he did say a little more than, "I don't know." The media and anti-Obama crowd will run with this and splice it up just as much and shout, "USA", but Walker did explain why he doesn't know.
If Walker just stop at 'I don't know', what you say might be a reasonable assumption. But the fact that Walker explained his answer to refute your assumption, pretty much ends the discussion right thereGood try, but that was his exact answer to the question if Obama was a Christian. No, if you had actually read the article, he stated that he didn't know what Obama's faith was as he hasn't sat down to talk to him about it. Why should he speculate on what his faith is?
