Sentenced to 1 year solitary confinement, but you can bring the complete works of one actor or director to entertain you (1 Viewer)

Do we get writing credited shows too? If so, Wolf would give me:

  • Hill Street Blues
  • Miami Vice
  • All the Law and Orders
  • Chicago series
  • FBI series
I could watch TV all day for the full year and not have to watch reruns.
I've never seen someone use a bulleted list on this board.

They are all reruns... ;)

Seriously though, not a bad strategy. There is enough content there for a few years of solitary confinement. A little weak on the comedy front though. I may need to laugh a little if going away for a year.

Some one mentioned including Producing credits as well. If that is the case, I will take Joss Whedon

TV: Buffy, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, Agents of Shield

Movies: Avengers, Avengers 2, Cabin in the Woods, Serinity

How about Julia Louis Dreyfuss? I honestly don't think I'd get sick of cycling through Seinfeld and Veep.
Brings an interesting side question. Do you get every episode of a show even if they were not in the episode or was a guest star?

JLD was in SNL .... Do we get all SNL?

She was a guest star on Curb....Do we get all Curb?

I was trying to angle this with Bean and the LOTR trilogy. Watching the Extended Cut of all 3 would knock off a month at a time.

First thought was Stanley Kubrick but that’s just me trying to be intellectual. Next was Bryan Cranston but he was named and I’d like to be original.

I’ll go Bruce Willis on the strength and entertainment value of Moonlighting plus a boat load of entertaining films.

On the other hand, by the letter of the OP, does he even count for all the shows he produced? Was he a named director for any episodes?

Really surprised most people are going movies - it tells me I watch too much TV.

But it also tells me folks aren’t totally understanding what solitary confinement means.

Yup. Really need quantity over quality here.
I just can't get interested in 95% of TV shows. To me they usually turn into a time waste as I am ultimately disappointed by the end. Most shows have 2-3 seasons of greatness, but stretch out way too long because they make money.

I am a sick ******* and could watch Jaws and Back to the Future on a loop, so if Spielberg producer credits get me those and Band of Brothers, I'd be good for a year. Everything else included would just be gravy.

I think it needs to stay acting and directing only, not producing or writing. And the person needs to be involved in the episodes you see, so no one episode you get the whole series loophole.

After some more thinking, I think I might go Matt Damon. I would get several Kevin Smith movies (esp Chasing Amy), the Oceans movies, the Bourne movies, a few Thor movies. I'm watching Rounders probably every day, Good Will Hunting often, Oppenheimer, Air, Euro Trip (Scotty Doesn't Know). Well rounded collection. And the Weezer skit on SNL.

Someone like Sam Jackson would net you a ton of movies. Some crap in there for sure (but good for a laugh), but a lot of quality and working with great directors too. I'd get a few PTAs, Tarantino, Marvel, Star Wars, etc. That actually might be my answer for an entertaining year that would hit a lot of my faves.

I chose hanks but I might reconsider after reading your Damon point. Like a lot of his movies.

Hanks. Excellent range as an actor. Some interesting works as a producer.
Tom Hanks for sure -
He runs the gambit of genres with plenty of drama with Forrest Gump, Castaway, Saving Private Ryan, Green Mile, and Sully...His earlier stuff had a lot of good humor with You've Got Mail, League of their Own, and Big...Plenty of animation with the Toy Story series...and the icing on the cake is his work on Band of Brothers and The Pacific assuming that counts.

Stolen from Reddit (who I think stole from The Ringer): You are sentence to 1 year solitary confinement, but you are allowed to take the complete works of one actor or director to entertain you. Who do you choose?

Complete works include any movies, TV shows, voice acting or directing.
The original post.

I am sure the voice acting thing is a loophole someone clever could exploit

I'll go with Steve Buscemi. With 175 screen credits on IMDB, I guarantee I wouldn't get bored.
You most assuredly get bored being only able to watch one movie every other day
He was in Sopranos. Does that mean you can watch all of the Sopranos or only the episodes he was in?

Only the episodes he was in.

I would consider voice acting being in an episode. Thought about Yeardley Smith. You get a couple iconic 80s and early 90s movies, all of The Simpsons and Herman's Head.

i got with mr t because it gets you a rocky and who could forget that loveable rapscallion b a baraccus from a team no one thats who take that to the bank brochachos

If I was in solitary confinement for a year- I think the emotion of laughter/humor would be very valuable to help cope. Thus, I’d want to pick someone that has a nice volume of hilarious stuff. Off the top of my head- people like Seth Macfarlane and Trey Parker come to mind.

Can I pick home movies of my kids growing up? I’ve already seen all the movies I like multiple times already.
