Good morning FBGs!

My wife sets her alarm sometimes 15-30 minutes earlier than necessary just so she can hit the snooze button a few times. I’m the type of person who once I’m awake- it’s almost impossible for me to go back to sleep. Drives me absolutely crazy.

For those who set it early, WHY??? Even if I can go back to sleep, moments later I get woken up again. It’s like Groundhog Day. It’s a F’n nightmare!

Thank you. I needed to get that off my chest.

My wife's the same only it's more like 60-90 mins too early, but the ringtone she uses doesn't wake me up. Our kids wake me up with a cup of coffee when they're getting ready for school and leave me alone on the weekend.

I started using my Apple Watch - it vibrates on my wrist so it doesn’t bother anyone else. So, now you know what to get your wives for their next gifts.

My wife is also a snoozer. I sleep lightly, and seldom use an alarm. I wear earplugs most nights.
Interesting. I have a hard time getting to sleep so I listen to (history) podcasts when I go to sleep and the air buds act as earplugs. Thought I was the only one who did something similar.

Yeah, she has one but takes it off at night to charge. Good idea though.

I snooze as those extra nine minutes are divine!!

Anyone still using their clock/radio rather than their phone?
Retired my 42 year old clock radio recently for an Amazon Echo with the clock built in.

I'm a 1 time snoozer.  "Alexa.... Snooze"

I rarely fall asleep without a podcast of some kind playing.  I’ve found a few where I don’t even care about the subject matter but the people’s voices just instantly put me out

Reading does that for me.  Have the kindle by the side of the bed.  I get a couple of pages in and then I'm out.   I don't have trouble falling asleep as is but I try to pretend like I'm gonna read more so this is my half ### attempt.

I usually snooze 1-2 times. I fall back asleep like clockwork 90% of the time. My wife occasionally complains about it but she does the exact same thing.

Iphone, 20 presets, I use whichever one I need to based on how much work I procrastinated that's due today. Sometimes that's 4am, mostly it's 6. When I set it for 4 or 5 I try hard not to snooze.

This.  I don't often need to use it to get up but when I have to be up early for a flight or something the voice command combined with soft blue light clock is awesome.  Previously I had a 30 year old giant red LED display that my wife hated because it cast a red glow.

This is my wife exactly. Took me 15 years to convince her that she is missing 20 minutes of actual good hard sleep every night. Finally started setting the clock to where I need to get up. If she snoozes after that it's on her.

Does anyone else not use an alarm on a daily basis?

Edit- in high school I had terrible sleeping habits and would set the alarm for when I should get up. I would hit snooze 3 times and then get ready in a rush.

I have one similar to this one. Crazy that these things are getting so expensive now.
That is a classic! I remember my older brother had one like that.

My standby for years was the red digital numbers with a giant snooze button.

My original was this
Peakeep 4 inches Twin Bell Alarm Clock with Stereoscopic Dial, Backlight, Battery Operated Loud Alarm Clock (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZQG30AK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_94WKYF0KT51G4XCFDD3P?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

until my parents took it away because I slept through it too many times and I would wake up the house.

I set the alarm so I can snooze if I feel like it and usually hit it once......then get up.   Sometimes I have hit the snooze and don't even remember doing so if I am in a deep sleep.

Best way I have found to eliminate the snooze is to set the clock on the other side of the room so I have to get up to turn it off.  Once I get out of bed it's easier not to stay in bed.

Funny this should be posted here this morning.

I have 3 alarms set for Mondays and Wednesdays; days where I wake up, take kids to school, and then come home and shower/go to my office.

My 7:03am alarm wasn't on, so my 7:33am alarm was the first to wake me, so I had to scramble to get the kids up, dressed and out the door.  My 7:43am alarm indicating it's time to go came really fast!

There are times where I go lay back in bed while my kids are getting ready / eating breakfast, so technically I guess I do "snooze" a bit.  At least on M/W.  On T/F, I oftentimes go back to bed after dropping the kids off and get an extra hour or so of sleep since I rarely have morning meetings.

I don't think I've set an alarm since HS. Maybe I did first year of college when I still had to take 8am classes. Then I just decided I wake up when I wake up and tossed the alarm. These days my 2 year old wakes me up at 5:30ish if I'm not already awake. So I guess I do still have an alarm clock, just more of the screaming "LET ME OUT" type rather than the slightly less awful BEEP BEEP BEEP type.

yep. One small advantage of getting older.

Now, if I could just sleep 8 hours in a row, I'd be all set.
We were well trained by my old furry alarm clock (RIP). We are so regulated in our sleep times, we don’t need an alarm. We just set it out of habit.

First of all, don't use the snooze button, people! Every sleep expert agrees that it's an unhealthy way to wake up. Train yourself to wake up when your alarm goes off. Set that as a goal and within a few days it will become almost second nature. Eventually your body clock will start waking you up at that time even without an alarm (experts also recommend waking up at the same time every day, including weekends, although I definitely don't follow that).

Second, I had a huge epiphany a year or two into my marriage when I was talking with my aunt and uncle and I realized that even longtime married couples have trouble figuring out a morning alarm routine that works for both. Fortunately, I got a FitBit a few years ago and neither my wife nor I can live without the silent alarm on my wrist -- me because I don't have to reach over and smash an alarm clock, my wife because my alarm doesn't wake her up (she's one of those people who has a hard time falling back asleep once she's up).

I have a nephew that used to be terrible about getting out of bed and getting to work on time.  He finally got an alarm clock that shot up a little helicopter thing you had to find and put back on the clock to shut the alarm off.  Not sure if he still uses it or finally grew out of it.

Reminds me of the old joke about a bunch of senior citizens sitting around the nursing home complaining.

One says, "I wake up every day at 6 and spend an hour standing in front of the toilet trying to squeeze out a drop."

Another says, "I wake up every day at 5 and spend two hours sitting on the toilet trying to poop."

The third says, "You think that's bad? Every day like clockwork I pee at 6 and then poop at 7."

His friends are confused: "What's the problem with that?"

"I don't get up until 8!"

I’m in between. I have a 5:40 and a 5:55 alarm set every work day. I generally just get up at 5:40 but maybe once a week I’ll turn that off and wait for the 5:55. Unfortunately I am also at the phase where I am gently waking up before my first alarm anyway.

I gave up my clock/radio not too long ago and switched over to my iPhone. I do miss the intricacies though of setting the radio station just perfectly to avoid the static.

As for the question, I tend to get up right when the alarm goes off unless I'm really exhausted.

This is what I do only at 5:15 and 5:30. 80% of the time I wake up about 5

I'm a little different as I set my phone alarm for around the time I want to leave the house. I usually wake up on my own a hour or so before then and just use the alarm as a last chance reminder.

To be fair I don’t need an alarm except for the rare occasions I take a nap or there is something like a fishing trip or flight where I have to get up at an unusual time. Even then I usually wake up minutes before the alarm goes off.

I just recently went back to the old alarm clock like the one I linked above but it’s really just for nostalgia.

I am pretty sure my last clock radio was that iPod one which was my favorite gizmo for so long.

This bad boy

Man, I thought that thing was so cool. The future, we are in the future. 😂

Count me in among the documentary listeners to go to sleep. I'll also listen to economic podcasts, historic true crime podcasts...... This is all very personal, like sharing the kink porn you are into.

Rarely ever use an alarm.

Just a playful jab at us all being old and waking up early these days :)

I don't have a 5am wakeup though.. that would suck.
Luckily I dont either right now with wfh but its still 6.

I find the alarm is vital now because i do get up early but its like 3 am and i fall back asleep and then all ####ed up lol

I wonder if there are any podcasts of Joe Buck announcing games.... whenever I'm on the couch he puts me right to sleep.

As far as waking up goes, I hit snooze multiple times every morning.  It's a terrible habit I wish I could break but I'm pretty much incapable of getting myself going in the morning.
