Who's in and what league and draft spot did you end up in?
Anyone doing a live draft?

Thoughts on the rules and (almost) positionless rosters this year?
How long are you willing to wait on QB?
How early are you looking at Travis Hunter?

Looking forward to another fun year but not sure what to expect from this format.

I was at the live draft in Philly last year. Couldn't make the live draft this year but just got in for online.
I'm in the SCLSU Mud Dogs (Waterboy) league and picking 9th.

SFB / Fantasy industry guys in this league include:

My plan is to mostly target BPA and also guys in situations where they could get a lead role / volume from injury, etc.

Going a little gimmicky worked out well with Rashid Shaheed last year (until he got hurt) so will definitely keep an eye on Travis Hunter but won't reach (not sure what would be considered a reach yet though).

Yep, he changes the settings a bit every year and we've moved from returner friendly to volume (and Travis Hunter) friendly...
Also, super-duper flexy, you don't need to start any specific positions, you could start 11 TE's. (Max of 2 QB's though)

Ultraflex lineup - 11 starters, 11 bench

• Start 0-2 Superflex (aka 2 QB max)
• Start 0-9 RB/WR/TE

Scoring basics

• 6 points for all TD
• 2 points for all 2-point conversions
• .04 points per passing yard
• .1 points per rush/receiving yard
• 1 point per 1st down
• TEP - 1 extra point per TE reception

Volume is king

• 0.5 points per carry
• 1 point per target (MFL Leagues Only)

I just did a live draft in Sacramento. I was the 7th pick. Was going to mostly punt on QB but ended up taking Lamar Jackson at #7. My research was limited to reading one article specific to the scoring for SFB15. The take away from the article was that running backs were kings, but a running QB would be right up there with them. I felt Lamar was a pretty safe pick with good upside and a great floor. I could have gone Gibbs, CMC, or Jeanty, all of whom I thought would be gone before 7.
I took Bucky Irving and Chase Brown in 2 and 3. In 4th I decided between Justin Fields and Chuba Hubbard -- the projections I were using had Fields much higher in points so I went with him. With positions mostly meaningless, I had not expected 2 qbs in first four rounds, but I think they were both good point values. Of course, Fields has a lot of question marks.
Rest of team was McLaurin, Pollard, Zay Flowers to go with Lamar, Rome Odunze (hoping new coach helps), Jaylen Warren, and Ricky Pearsall (lots of catches and needed my 49er).

Based on the projections I used, and it being June 21, fairly happy with the team.

Thoughts -- was surprised QBs went as early as they did. Both Allen and Daniels went before I took Lamar. Hurts went 1.10. Mahomes went 2.3. Both Bowers and McBride are great, but I felt they were a little over valued with the all flex lineup. I did not end up with a TE.
Lots of different lineups were drafted -- one was all RB first 7 rounds, one started Bowers/McBride and a few were "standard" -- QB, Rbs, Wrs, and a TE.

Travis Hunter went 2.5. I just don't see him getting a ton of IDP points. If he turns out to be a shut down corner then they will not throw at him.

I did think the IDP scoring was a "miss". The returner scoring last year was interesting and applied to a lot of players. I don't understand the logic of Travis Hunter points.

Positionless rosters are somewhat of a non-issue, because at a certain point the highest scoring player is going to be a tight end, or a qb, or a wr, or a rb, so your roster is going to end up somewhat standard anyways.

Not a fan of drafting so early. July was pretty early, so June 21 for a draft was extremely early.

It was fun though and for charity so all good.

You're not the only person that feels that way but my counterpoint that I always bring up is that 100% of your competition also drafted early. So unless you think you're unluckier than your opponents, there is zero advantage or disadvantage to drafting early.

If the idea is you wish you had a better feel for the landscape like we will in late August or early September....well sure ok but again that is info that 100% of your competition will have as well.

I like early drafting because I like clinging to the illusion that I have a better read of the landscape than my opponents. But there is no reason to think I will be more or less snake bit simply because it's early.

Just an observation and everyone should draft however they want. Just a minor crusade of mine hehe.

Yeah he was the one that got the attention but there were dozens of players that were relevant. Not this year. Just Hunter and maybe not even him.

I’m in it. This is my 4th straight year. Louisville Cardinals division, picking 6th.

I’ve picked 6th the last 3 years now. I like being in the middle in something like this.

1. You never know who will slip, especially with these no roster requirements.

When you do a mock: there’s a flex tab and a superflex tab. And then just all the players piled up under each heading.

I think there’s more of a chance someone in this set up. Maybe it’s wishful thinking.

2. Minimizes the effect of 3rd round reversal.

I’ve seen Travis Hunter go late 4th a lot. I think we’ll see him go all over the place. Maybe 1st round in some places. It’s “fun” to get the guy with the special points.

I think the Elite Elite RB’s and Elite Elite TE’s will reign supreme. But your elite WR’s aren’t far off.

According last year’s stats with this year’s scoring on sleeper:

Chase was #3 overall, but the only WR on the top 10. ARSB came in at #12.

Bowers and McBride came in at 6 and 7.

Multiple QB’s in the top 25.

Overall, pretty balanced. But I do think SLIGHT edge RB>WR.

Here is a helpful hint don't listen to people who say draft 3 QBs early. Drafting a 3rd QB early is the worst possible thing you can do this year since your first 11 picks regardless of position can all be starters.

Also better watch out for how the scoring works and know your projections. A little birdie told me RB's are better than QB's even the massive studs like Josh Allen, Lamar ect. I am guessing people will get sucked into this is a "SF" and still draft QBs way early when you can start 0 QB's

I have said for 35 years just draft the best players that score the most pts and this is truly that since there are no starting positions.

There are hundreds of leagues of 12. Some are on MFL and some are on sleeper. You would be in one or the other but not both. The settings are slightly different because of which scoring categories each supports. Scott does hours of analysis and said the yearly differences are fractional. Last year, MFL had kickers as flex options but I believe Sleeper mandated 1 kicker and couldn't handle it in the flex.

For 11 weeks, you play against your own league of 12. Then some number of teams make the playoffs and advance each week through week 17.

Yes, the lineup requirements this year are 2 superflex and 9 flex. You could start 11 TE if you wanted to.

The defensive points are really the Travis Hunter rule. Last year, there were major kick returner points and it essentially was the Rashid Shaheed rule.

beg borrow steal whatever you gotta do, no IDK if you follow ScottFish on X and hunt around the content that exists around it on X, they have contests and group threads dedicated to getting a spot. Scott and others will do things like a live YT stream where they draw names from the chat, or the online football dash race game. I forget what it's called but you get like 10 people to race from endzone to endzone in tecmo bowl style graphics. it's randomized but fun to watch. They do all kinds of rando entry promos but you have to sort of tune in and hunt around. I am in a X chat group from two years ago called SFB Hopefuls and there are ideas exchanged there, for example.

or if you were to make some sort of charitable donation and then advertise it and say hey look at me let me in! that might work. seriously.

you can also win your way in through a season long best ball tourney for $10 that goes to the SFB charities but the entry would be for the following season - I think it's something like half of each league gets in though so it's a pretty solid shot.

all of that said IDK when it gets capped it's probably close now because live in-person drafts have already begun and the slow online drafts start July 7th.

I am thinking of NFL WR4s values and their special teams tackles. Not many get enough catches really.
2.5 Reception points are excessive on sleeper and I'm very intrigued.
All TDs catches my eye for passing TDs.

I go somewhat early and QB heavy in underdog leagues so the ADP looks a lot like them.
I don't think Lamar is as valuable if passing TDs and rushing TDs are equal but I don't see why he'd fall too much.

A lot is still the same, just tweaked. Ryan and Scott always do an excellent job with this. It makes it new/different and yet comfortable at the same time

In general, I think the people that are in this large of a tournament are pretty knowledgable. And there's so much content on the internet, Twitter, Discord, etc.

Just thinking out loud: QB's definitely don't compare as well against the elite of the elite. Looking at sleeper: Lamar was #5 last year and the only player in the top 12.

But then:

12in the top 60 overall. Using 60 as a cut off because that's 5 rounds.

My early thinking: Don't feel any pressure to go QB round 1. Technically, don't feel forced to go QB at all, ever. But certainly, your elite RB, WR, and even TE feel like where you want to be round 1. In general, I do think some people will overvalue their QB1 and QB2 just because the Superflex positions exist. And I'm hopeful to be in a spot to take advantage of that.

here is mine from last year. I've actually done both Sleeper and MFL for this thing and am back onto Sleeper this year. Only because I wanted a division that was locally themed to my hometown of Portland, so I chose the Timbers division (our soccer team). Hard to really glean too much from these past seasons because Scott changes the scoring so dramatically each year. And this season is maybe the wackiest most wide open ever.

Yeah I think that is true with basically the exception of Lamar and Allen. I'll look for the link but there is actually a pretty solid article here on FBG about this year's tourney. Came out maybe 2 weeks ago. One takeaway though was that really with the exception of the top QBs who run a lot, that they just aren't worth as much as you'd think.

I haven't got an answer to a big question of mine just yet though. It looks to me like QBs don't get negative points for INTs and I want to know if that is a change. Did they get penalized last year? *If* it is a change it might be huge re:QB rankings vs the field.

The systems don't necessarily support each so they have to tweak it. Each host is very receptive and does adjust but sometimes they can't get to it til the next year

I think he was trying to NOT do the 3rd round reversal this year, and there was a lot of complaining on Twitter and such.

This is my 4th year consecutive year. Each of the last 3 years it was 3RR. I think people assumed that was a forever fixture. Scott tweeted a lot about it saying the point was for the settings to change every single year.

In the end, they kept it. But I feel like the stage has been set to do away with it for next season.

I chose the 6th spot. And 3RR plays into that. I feel like I'm not really being affected by it there. If they end up doing away with it next year, I'll be really tempted to pick in the top 3 or 4.

MFL does 1 point per target. 1 Point per reception

Sleeper does 2.5 PPR, no points per target.

TE's get an extra 1 PPR on both sites.

Scott did a Youtube video/live stream a few weeks back to reveal and discuss the scoring. They said in running the settings on each site, they felt it came out very similar for individual players. He said some weeks, your guy will do a little better on 1 site vs the other, but on the whole they felt it would average out to be very similar across sites.

Thanx. Perhaps I will run through the IDP scoring later, but for now, I wanted to compare the 4 main position leaders from last year.

QB - Lamar Jackson
TD's - 41 passing + 4 rushing = 45 TD's x 6 pts = 270 points
2 pt conversion - 1 x 2 pts = 2 points
Passing yardage - 4172 yards x .04 per yard = 166.88 points
Rushing yardage - 915 yards x .1 per yard = 91.5 points
Receiving yardage - 0 yards x .1 per yard = 0 points
Rushing first down - 47 1st downs x 1 per 1st down = 47 points
Receiving first down - 0 1st downs x 1 per 1st down = 0 points
Rushing carries - 139 carries x .5 per carry = 69.5 points
Total = 646.88 points

RB - Saquon Barkley
TD's - 13 rushing + 2 receiving = 15 TD's x 6 pts = 90 points

Read a strategy/scoring article on another site and I'm not sure it's cool to link that here but PM me and I'll provide it.

That site did projections and highest ranked QB was Jayden Daniels at 15.

Also it's 3 round reversal, which I wish I'd have known before selecting my draft pick.

I think he was trying to NOT do the 3rd round reversal this year, and there was a lot of complaining on Twitter and such.

This is my 4th year consecutive year. Each of the last 3 years it was 3RR. I think people assumed that was a forever fixture. Scott tweeted a lot about it saying the point was for the settings to change every single year.

In the end, they kept it. But I feel like the stage has been set to do away with it for next season.

I chose the 6th spot. And 3RR plays into that. I feel like I'm not really being affected by it there. If they end up doing away with it next year, I'll be really tempted to pick in the top 3 or 4.

First time entry for me and I chose pick 1.01 before knowing it was 3RR. I'd have likely chose middle range as you did otherwise but no biggie.

I watched the Atlanta do 3 live drafts today thru about 8 rounds on you tube. Hunter 2.03 in one and 3.02 in another.

I chose slot #10 and I don't know if it has been settled yet whether 3RR is in play. I chose 10 based on the assumption that it was, as in past seasons. But whatevs.

So to shift gears slightly, the charity nature of this is always cool and worth reminding or bumping. I get new t-shirts every year. This is my 4th year but the SFB theme is different every year. This year it's sports franchises. Last year it was movies. It was restaurant logos and themes before that. Cities before that. The money goes to the charities behind the tourney and sometimes people get inspired to either donate their own stuff to their own charities just because, and then they give a shout out to SFB, or just through the merch and other links etc.

But for example, there is a local non-profit in my town that runs an environmental science education camp each summer and I worked for them as a van driver for the kids during their camp a few summers ago and had a great experience and have kept in contact with those folks. But each FF season since, I have pledged to donate a % of my FF winnings to their organization and I crosspost it with SFB even though it doesn't really have any direct connection. But if people get into that kind of thing, you never know where it might go. I have donated a fair amount more to this org with my FF $ than the wages I had earned that summer.

*I'm doing their summer camp again in a few weeks and will again probably donate something akin to the wages I get once FF pays out around christmas time. Which is also a critical time of year for most non-profits. Especially in the current climate just saying. As I understand it, the merch that you get directly thru SFB goes towards Toys for Tots primarily.

There is no reason a league of 12 members can't have a conversation about a common charity they might "play for" - that kind of thing. Anyway, the shirts are pure fire. I live in Portland and got a new Blazers shirt with the SFB theme.

Thank you. We love that live draft sync feature. For this year, just Sleeper but hope to expand in the future. I'm biased I know, but the feature is so good, I've move all my leagues to Sleeper. It's that good.
