Shooting At Aurora, Colorado Movie Theater (1 Viewer)

You have to have exits. I don't think they have to be alarmed. That is done to stop theft mostly.
may depend on having the central alarm, as a previous poster said. They are needed to be sure that everybody is alerted to a potential emergency. (although they are mostly theft protection).

As pointed out before, the exits at the front of a theatre are not emergency exits. They are exits
:goodposting: In the theaters around here, those exit doors at ground level on either side of the screen are not dedicated emergency exits. They're just regular ol' exit doors ... an alternative to walking back out through the lobby. Of course, they're not meant to be opened from the outside so as to avoid freeloaders. These doors may have emergency pull-boxes or something next to them in case of fire (hadn't looked), but no alarm sounds when they are opened, nor is an alarm expected. Occasionally, you'll see someone answer a vibrating cell (or a beeper 20 yrs ago) and legitimately exit through those screen-side doors.

I don't think the "they were emergency exits, man" argument is going to get very far, unless Colorado law is very specific on the issue.

71 people were shot when James Holmes opened fire during the midnight premiere of ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ on Friday, but Torrence Brown, Jr. wasn’t one of them. He was there (he works in the movie theater and a friend of his was killed) but he wasn’t injured in any way.Nonetheless he’s the first to hire an attorney an announce a sweeping lawsuit because money. First he’ll sue the movie theater, because he thinks emergency exit doors should have magic charms on them like in ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’ so only the penitent man shall pass. Then he’ll sue:

Holmes’ doctors. (Browns attorney) says it appears Holmes was on several medications — prescribed by one or more doctors – at the time of the shooting and he believes the docs did not properly monitor Holmes.
Was James Holmes on some sort of “medication”? Perhaps! Did the doctors monitor him correctly? I have no idea, but let’s sue them anyway and look into that later. I don’t have all day, ya know.
(Brown will also sue) Warner Bros. (claiming) “Dark Knight Rises” was particularly violent and Holmes mimicked some of the action.
Keep in mind that Holmes hadn’t even seen ‘Dark Knight Rises’. He was at the premiere. But according to the attorney, he watched 20 minutes of it, went home, dyed his hair like a character from a different movie, built a time machine to go buy 4 guns and wire his apartment with explosives, then came back to our time and shot up the theater. He invented time travel, we can’t arrest him now, he’s the future of humanity.

So did I hear correctly. The knucklehead that was doing all the interviews about jumping and running out, leaving his kid also jumped into his truck and was driving around?? And some other kid got shot saving the girlfriend and 2 kids... Plus the new story today about 4 boyfriends dieing saving their girlfriends. Man she probably going to hang on to that one for an argument down the road...

Yeah and then he proposed to her at the hospital after that whole ordeal and she said yes

Not everyone. For example, he did not sue the people who gave him life so that he would experience this tragedy.

Report: Aurora Shooting Suspect Mailed Notebook with Massacre Plans to Psychiatrist over a week before the shooting

Law enforcement sources who spoke exclusively with FoxNews.com claim that a package with a notebook from Aurora shooting suspect James Holmes was sent to the University of Colorado Anschutz medical campus in Aurora care of a psychiatrist who also teaches at the school.

According to the sources, the notebook, which arrived on campus up to a week prior to the shooting, was "full of details about how [Holmes] was going to kill people," and included "drawings and illustrations of the massacre."

One of the people who spoke with Fox News said the package was received by the mailroom on July 12th, but another source said the exact receipt date could not be confirmed.

Both sources said the intended recipient of Holmes' notebook was a professor who also treated patients at the psychiatry outpatient facility, located in Building 500, where the first suspicious package was delivered. It could not be verified that the psychiatrist had had previous contact with Holmes, who was a dropout from the school's neuroscience doctoral program and had studied various mental health issues and ailments as part of his curriculum.

An FBI agent with the Denver Division said he could not comment on the package or its contents due to a court-issued gag order.

Dude is throwing a lot of #### against the wall looking for some of it to stick. Warner Bors is a must sue. They got deep pockets. Of course they will use those deep pockets on superior lawyers who will get their part throw out.

People use those as regular exits all the time, I know I do. In fact, at one theater, I park my car right next to it for a quick exit.

Exactly why lawyers that take these kinds of frivolous and baseless moneygrab cases should suffer a punishment.

I don't know about Colorado, but in Illinois anything an attorney files with a court he's certifying that "to the best of his knowledge, information, and belief formed after reasonable inquiry it is well grounded in fact and is warranted by existing law or a good-faith argument for the extension, modification, or reversal of existing law, and that it is not interposed for any improper purpose, such as to harass or to cause unnecessary delay or needless increase in the cost of litigation."Has it actually been filed yet?

put the guy away forever, maybe death penalty

sue warner bros for making a violent movie

sue the theater for not having high security

sue the doctors for not identifying his problem

sue Armalite? never a thought

And what is the penalty in Chicago for filing a case that the judge rules frivolous? (seriously, is there one for the lawyer?)

Even if it is, we'd need to know the context of the notebook/package to determine if there's anything the professor could've possibly done.

Being regular use exits they wouldn't be alarmed and owners probably wouldn't want them to be because if someone set the alarm off there would probably be people demanding money back and/or free tickets to other shows.

The lawyer pays this?
Possibly. The lawyer or the plaintiff (depending I suppose on the type of fee agreement they worked up)Also, theoretically, the lawyer could get bar sanctions if the suit was incredibly frivolous.

I saw a judge ream an attorney one time. He entered sanctions against the attorney and specifically ordered the attorney not to bill his client for any of the time he expended in preparing the motion he was sanctioned for or responding to the motion for sanctions. He also ordered the attorney to send the order to his client with a cover letter explaining why the sanctions were entered and the judge was to be cc'd on the letter.

What I haven't heard is what happened after the shootings, but before he was arrested. Did he try to get into the lobby? Go back out the same exit he entered? Does anyone know?

They're stupid.So I'd say no.

I believe it was the bolded -- he had one exit door propped open. He had gone back out to his car (presumably to reload or get another weapon) and the police caught him carside moments later.

So...we're what...less than a week out from the Aurora shootings and some dude posted a photo on FB of him posing with a beer and holding a SCAR super machine gun or something with like a million bullet clip canister thingy....he's a walking cliche for the republican party. (He's openly conservative, cover photo is of him with Rumsfeld, and is an active member of the NRA, his last photo upload was a picture of a gun that says, "If you come for mine, you better bring yours."
