Goff NFL ranks at home 2022-24
  • #1 qb rating
  • #1 pass tds
  • #5 comp %
  • #6 pass yds / attempt
Can't wait for him to suck out loud on the road in the wild card round!
Maybe but Detroit is undefeated on the road this year as well. Looking at StatMuse, it seems like Goff leads all starting NFL QBs in yards per game, completion %, TDs and QB rating on the road in 2024. So yeah we can put the Goff road narrative to bed.

If we can't all tell I'm being a little tongue in cheek I can't help you guys!

Lighten up, Lions' fans. Goff and the offense aren't likely going to be your downfall. You are going to have to outplay everyone on offense to get it done though I think.

we light, we loose

the D didn’t really fall off a cliff until Anzalone, Carlton Davis III & McNeill went down. Alex comes back this week & CD3 could be back by the NFCCG.

If they make it to Bourbon Street…guess who started running this week?

It’s been a long, difficult road to this place as Lions fans. We are having a good time but we aren’t taking any **** either.

What teams beat the Lions and Vikings this year?
Bucs and Bills for the Lions

Rams and Lions for the Vikings
@Grahamburn i hadn’t thought of it till now. But quite interesting that the two wild card teams in the nfc toppled two of the leaders fighting for the 1 seed.
One of the main reasons the Bucs have been able to beat big physical teams like the Lions/Eagles is they're one of the few defenses that still emphasize stopping the run. Philly and Detroit just bludgeon teams with their running games and then play-action you to death. You can't do that to Vita Vea and Bowles' because he specifically commits extra players to it. That's why teams who dink/dunk over the middle of the field torch them sometimes.

It works against teams that are stubborn with their run game.

Prediction:

  • If Vikings win they lose their first playoff game. This would be the biggest nugget punch to Vikes fans
  • If Det wins then Vikings make it to the NFCCG and lose while Detroit loses their first playoff game
  • Slight possibility if Vikings lose this week they lose in the divisional round and save the nut crunching loss in the NFCCG to Detroit because their fans can't have anything nice either.

True.

I just think it’s an interesting storyline that people keep talking about the loser of this game having to head off to a wildcard game to play a teak with a much lower record.

But both of these teams have already conquered some giants.

Makes for some great playoff football

As a Vikings fan. No matter what happens… I’m ready to be punched in the nuts.

I’m doing dry January for the first time, so it may hurt worse than normal.

Of course we all are ready for the punch in our minds to some degree. But the more wins, higher seed, hope and expectations build that brain aspect of knowing we can't have nice things dips to the point to make the nugget punch get maximized for pain. That is going to happen when they lose the first playoff game as the #1 seed. Darnold reverts to NYJ Darnold and the pain will drive you to push the sober January to sober March (need two months to drown your sorrows).

Vikings Injury Report
The Vikngs (14-2) on Friday ruled out outside linebacker Pat Jones II (knee) for Sunday's winner-takes-the-division Week 18 game at the Detroit Lions (14-2).
Minnesota listed linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill (illness) and cornerback Fabian Moreau (hip) as questionable.

The other players on the Vikings report this week for injuries — Harrison Smith (foot), fullback C.J. Ham (quadriceps), running back Aaron Jones, Sr. (quadriceps), tight end Josh Oliver (wrist) and guard Ed Ingram (back) — did not receive game status designations and are expected to be available.

The contest is the first regular-season game between two teams with 14 wins in NFL history and will break a previous record for combined wins between two teams in a regular-season game (25: between the Patriots and Giants in 2007 and between the Seahawks and Colts in 2005).

Everyone always sleeps on Tampa.

The record is what it is though. True.

I don’t think anyone really looked at their first ten games? 4-6 in that stretch, but played what ultimately ended up being 7 playoff teams, and beat the Commanders/Eagles/Lions. Orlovsky on ESPN the other day didn’t even remember that last one. Two of their losses in OT before Kirk was bad and against KC both without touching the ball.

Assuming they win Sunday they’re a pretty dangerous 10 win team and red hot, which is what you want to be in December/January.

There you go....I knew if you took enough swings you'd finally hit a squirter through the infield.

;)

I actually think that is a great point for discussion. Detroit was 8-0 on the road in the regular season, Minnesota is 6-1. Yet the populist narrative to this game is whoever loses, their Super Bowl hopes are dashed.

I'm not convinced that is true. The Lions had a remarkable stretch in the middle of the season in which they averaged 39.1 ppg [over 7 games]. Over the last 4 games, they have averaged 37.5. The offense is peaking. The defense will be much improved with Alex Anzalone back in the mix. And they'll have CD3 back for the NFCCG & Super Bowl. I'll believe Hutch can suit up in New Orleans when I see it, but he thinks it's happening.

The NFC Wild Card is going to have some compelling matchups. Vikings can defeat the Rams in a revenge game, couple of gunslinger QBs in Jayden v Baker, only the 4th playoff meeting between GB-PHI (114 postseason games combined for those two franchises - would be just the 3rd in the Super Bowl era). Unless the Eagles choke, DET-MIN rematch in two weeks.

Looking at the opposite hypothetical, the WC features Goff v Stafford Round II. If they manage to get through, DET-MIN rematch in two weeks - the Lions will be 9-0 on the road, their CB1 will be close to returning, they're already won in Minneapolis.

I'm not in favor of doing things the hard way. Everyone keeps saying "Detroit desperately needs a week because of injuries." Oh. OK. Who is coming back during that week off? Probably no one, Anzalone and Raymond are either going this week or next. Alex is likely back in the lineup this week, and Kalif is their PR and they just cut the backup pracitice squad PR. Ain't nobody else getting activated that I'm aware of, so that's not even a cogent point. Next one up might be CD3, and Divisional round seems ambitious, probably NFC Championship is more likely.

IDK, just feel like it's a bit disrespectful to say the teams who are 14-1 on the road this year have no chance if they lose tomorrow night.

Well not gonna predict people who have jumped on the bandwagon won't turn if Dan and Brad keep building this into a consistent winner, but for the core long time fans, the Michiganders who went through a lifetime of feeling like it would never turn around, I don't think that's happening.

As someone who has been an outside for a quarter of a century, folks from the midwest - especially Michigan and Minnesota - are fundamentally kind hearted and generous. It is such a contrast to NYC, it's almost a culture shock when I return there. Detroit area people are (broad brush, generally, IME) genuine, nice and friendly. Pure Michigan.

You started it!

Just feels like whichever team loses, even if there aren’t any additional physical injuries, is going to be somewhat emotionally and physically broken.

Then they have to pick up the pieces and go on the road against a red hot offense in TB or LA.

Wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see the loser go out in the Wild Card round. That’s what I meant by “their season is over.”

If TB somehow loses then yeah Atlanta is probably an easy out.

on the road against a red hot offense in TB or LA.

Baker is on a heater, 16 passing TDs in the last 4.

Since they hung 44 on the Bills, the Rams in the last three games have scored...44 points
  • at SF 16/27 160 0-0 - started out 3/12
  • at NYJ 14/19 110 1-1 - was cold af, had to win this one on the ground
  • ARI 17/32 189 0-0 - 7/20 in the first half
Their defense has been playing better of late, but Stafford is not playing well. Although, as he did often in Detroit, he's played much better in the second half. Only after putitng them in a hole because of his poor play. They've won 5 staight but really only have the one signature win. Last yar they came in as the hottest team in the NFL (6-1 down the stretch), but this year it seems more like a favorable schedule is bigger part of the story. IMO

Especially Michigan and Minnesota?? Hell no. I lived in Minnesota. Nice people — as long as you keep at arms length. They don’t want you moving to their state. Wisconsin people are far far more welcoming.

It is such a contrast to NYC, it's almost a culture shock when I return there. Detroit area people are (broad brush, generally, IME) genuine, nice and friendly. Pure Michigan.
Especially Michigan and Minnesota?? Hell no. I lived in Minnesota. Nice people — as long as you keep at arms length. They don’t want you moving to their state. Wisconsin people are far far more welcoming.

OK

Have only traveled through both states for the most part, but commuted from Detroit to Minneapolis for six months working on a large client. Also spent a few summers in St Paul with my cousins. Should have said IME lol.

Really don't have anything comparable in my Wisconsin experience - spent a week in Menominee, which is literally a stones throw from the U.P. The Wisconsin Dells were OK although a little too touristy for me. Madison knows how to party. Packers fans are insufferable. Overall, pretty limited basis for forming an opinion.

We view most of life through the prism of our experiences. My favorite nephew (h.s. principal) lives in the suburbs of Minneapolis, our best friends here in Brooklyn are Minnesotans. Basically, all the people I know from there there are nice lol.

It’s been a long, difficult road to this place as Lions fans. We are having a good time but we aren’t taking any **** either.
please please please Lions fans, don’t turn into the eagles fans around here

Lol, fair enough. We can agree that Michigan people are very nice generally. Minnesotans are of course also nice — but I’ve experienced nothing that tells me they are nicer than Iowa, Wisconsin or Indiana people. Illinois? Yeah, screw that place. I’ve lived here 20 years. Rich Chicago people suck.

Yeah that tracks for me as well. I remember a few years ago we had a consultant in for a week who was based in the Finger Lakes region, and we joked about how refreshing it was to have someone chill around the office for a change.

I grew up in a rural area. Labor Day to Memorial Day living in a village of 200 people - my dad had a manufacturing facility a few blocks away - and summers at a tiny freshwater cottage three miles from our primary home. Most of the folks who owned cottages around us were from downstate, mostly blue collar families who came "up north" whenever they could. Different time back then, UAW workers could afford modest second homes on a single income. My mom did the payroll and was the bookkeeper for dad's business, most of my friends moms were SAH.

I am a little over monochromatic, prefer to go back to classic looks. I miss silver pants, and white tops on blue pants looks good to me as well. But I guess they're ultra superstitious about staying with same over same (14-1 I think) since the Bucs beat them when they wore mismatched jerseys/pants.

Silly. We can win wearing anything. We can lose wearing anything. Whatever.

Love the alternate helmet, but the blacks are meh to me. I think it's because I associate black on black with Matt Millen.

MCDC wanted blacks the first year, Rod Wood told him "afteryou win the division" or words to that effect. So they kind of had to introduce them this year lol.

I 100% agree here but if you look at all uniforms across NFL and college, the matching pants/jerseys seems to be the predominant look now.

Locked in number 1 seed, two-time reigning champs, the starters that are rested this week will have 25 days off between games, PFF odds 10%? If the Vikings win tomorrow, my best prediction would be a repeat of Super Bowl IV. Regardless of who wins tomorrow night, the Vegas odds on the Chiefs beating the North Champs in the SB should be about 50-1. That is a decent flyer bet.

It's honestly kind of hard to hate on the Vikings.

The Packers, easy peasy - FTP is not just a phrase, it's a lifestyle.

Bears....hard to work up much animosity toward a poverty franchise, but if they ever accidentally stumble into success, should be easy to reignite.

But I really like the Minnesota culture. This is insane, in the best kind of way.

Each visiting team gets around 500 tickets to distribute. Most of those - or a I should say a portion of those - go to season ticket holders at a reasonable rate.

The Vikings bought 1900 tickets on the secondary market, and sold them to their fans for pretty much face value. Cost them $2,000,000.

I mean....that is pretty awesome. Just outstanding.

The Vikings Have Spent Nearly $2 Million on Tickets for the Lions Game

OK I thought of that too but come on man

:lmao:

This started early in the week, on the Vikings subreddit people were talking about getting emails/texts from their season ticket rep with insanely good, below market deals. I suppose some flipped them but I bet most of them are coming to the game.

I get Lions Season Ticket holders who sell their playoff tickets, you can put a pretty good dent in the cost of your season long package just by watching at home once. But if I had playoff tickets I could not imagine flipping them. Ditto for this game. YMMV

This should be a fun one. Probably the best last game of the seasons that we've had in a while, maybe ever.

I think Justin Jefferson, and to a lesser extent Jordan Addison eat against the Lions CBs. I do think the running game stays mostly contained.

I think Jared Goff dinks and dunks against the blitz heavy Vikings. I expect Amon-Ra to have another good game against them, and if Bijan was my RB1 pick for the week Gibbs might be #2.

That’s a commitment by Vikings ownership. Hope the game lives up to the hype.

And Hope we have some “trick plays”for the defense we need all the help we can get.

What: Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings, winner earns the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a first-round playoff bye.

When: Sunday, Jan. 5, 8:20 p.m.

Where: Ford Field, Detroit

How to watch: NBC (Mike Tirico/Cris Collinsworth/Melissa Stark

How to listen: 97.1-FM The Ticket in Metro Detroit or any number of network affiliates around the state.

Line: -2.5

Injury report: The Lions ruled out running David Montgomery (knee) and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley. The latter was placed on the non-football illness list on Saturday.

Additionally, the team listed linebacker Alex Anzalone (forearm), wide receiver Kalif Raymond (foot), and running back Craig Reynolds (back) as questionable. Anzalone and Raymond were activated off injured reserve on Saturday. That doesn't guarantee they suit up and the team could opt to hold the linebacker out of action for another week.

Reynolds was a late-week addition to the injury report, but the Lions' decision to not elevate Jermar Jefferson off the practice squad hints at Reynolds being available for the contest.

● Officiating assignment: Brad Rogers’ crew. Promoted to referee in 2019, Rogers has been a regular for the Lions, officiating five of the team’s games the past three years, including a Week 3 matchup against Arizona this season.
Rogers’ crew can get a little flag-happy, throwing at least 16 in four of the past five games.

● Last meeting: In Week 7, the Lions knocked off the undefeated Vikings, 31-29, behind a game-winning field goal by Jake Bates with 15 seconds remaining. The Lions jumped out to an 11-point lead at the half, and survived a costly fumble that was returned for a touchdown. QB Jared Goff was sensational in the victory, completing 22-of-25 for 280 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.
