**SNF Vikings at Lions** (-3, 56) 8:20 (1 Viewer)

Looking fwd to this one. Commenting to get notifications later. I went all-in with season long prop bets on the Lions this summer. I've already recovered a very small amount. A win today and I'm playing with house money through the playoffs. Gibbs has become my favorite player. Go Lions.

What teams beat the Lions and Vikings this year?
Bucs and Bills for the Lions

Rams and Lions for the Vikings
@Grahamburn i hadn’t thought of it till now. But quite interesting that the two wild card teams in the nfc toppled two of the leaders fighting for the 1 seed.
One of the main reasons the Bucs have been able to beat big physical teams like the Lions/Eagles is they're one of the few defenses that still emphasize stopping the run. Philly and Detroit just bludgeon teams with their running games and then play-action you to death. You can't do that to Vita Vea and Bowles' because he specifically commits extra players to it. That's why teams who dink/dunk over the middle of the field torch them sometimes.

It works against teams that are stubborn with their run game.

The Eagles weren't healthy on offense when they played the Bucs. This season they were without Lane Johnson, AJ Brown and Devonta Smith. Barkley still ran for 84 yards on 10 carries. That game in week 4 had more to do with the Eagles not being healthy than anything the Bucs defense did on defense.

Prediction:

  • If Vikings win they lose their first playoff game. This would be the biggest nugget punch to Vikes fans
  • If Det wins then Vikings make it to the NFCCG and lose while Detroit loses their first playoff game
  • Slight possibility if Vikings lose this week they lose in the divisional round and save the nut crunching loss in the NFCCG to Detroit because their fans can't have anything nice either.

In my best Vincent Vega voice: "That's a bold statement."

What: Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings, winner earns the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a first-round playoff bye.

When: Sunday, Jan. 5, 8:20 p.m.

Where: Ford Field, Detroit

How to watch: NBC (Mike Tirico/Cris Collinsworth/Melissa Stark

How to listen: 97.1-FM The Ticket in Metro Detroit or any number of network affiliates around the state.

Line: -2.5

Injury report: The Lions ruled out running David Montgomery (knee) and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley. The latter was placed on the non-football illness list on Saturday.

Additionally, the team listed linebacker Alex Anzalone (forearm), wide receiver Kalif Raymond (foot), and running back Craig Reynolds (back) as questionable. Anzalone and Raymond were activated off injured reserve on Saturday. That doesn't guarantee they suit up and the team could opt to hold the linebacker out of action for another week.

Reynolds was a late-week addition to the injury report, but the Lions' decision to not elevate Jermar Jefferson off the practice squad hints at Reynolds being available for the contest.

● Officiating assignment: Brad Rogers’ crew. Promoted to referee in 2019, Rogers has been a regular for the Lions, officiating five of the team’s games the past three years, including a Week 3 matchup against Arizona this season.
Rogers’ crew can get a little flag-happy, throwing at least 16 in four of the past five games.

● Last meeting: In Week 7, the Lions knocked off the undefeated Vikings, 31-29, behind a game-winning field goal by Jake Bates with 15 seconds remaining. The Lions jumped out to an 11-point lead at the half, and survived a costly fumble that was returned for a touchdown. QB Jared Goff was sensational in the victory, completing 22-of-25 for 280 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Now here's a guy that just loves to post. You go to this thread, post. You go to that thread, post! I tell ya, he leaves no stone unturned in this match-up and jeez Mike, I love the guy!

Just how ironic is it that I’m a vertically challenge guy, who went to Syracuse on a Robert Costas Scholarship, and now I sit in most of the chairs Bob used to occupy? Wild stuff, Chris.

No other poster on the Internet can do what he does…well, one other guy, but that is it.

Wisconsin people are far, far more welcoming.
Have had some great times in Wisco! If you love the water & coastal scenery, beef, cheese & custard... you're gonna love Door Co.!! :) As to the Lions having to play on the road, I haven't read anything that I thought was disrespecting. As mentioned, any game on the road means you're playing an additional game. What I read was more about them having to go into Philly & the variable of the weather factoring.

If not already mentioned:

From a betting site & written about 5 years ago: "Since 1990, using data from Pro-Football-Reference, there have been 56 dome teams that played in outdoor playoff games. These teams are 12-44 (21.4%) SU and 18-36-2 (33.3%) against the spread (ATS) in these matchups."

I've read elsewhere that dome teams aren't even as good as non-dome teams playing at home in the playoffs. To me, Minnesota more so, chucked a proven advantage into the garbage when they went inside. All for the right to host however many SBs.

What about the other games Bowles made Hurts’ his little baby?

No AJ Brown in the playoff game last year, but that version of the Eagles were crumbling because the defense was in shambles. But when the Eagles were full strength in the regular season in 2023, Eagles dominated the Bucs and beat them by 2 scores.

Bucs have had eagles number for sure. Feel pretty good about their chances at home if we meet again though

By now everyone is aware this matchup will feature the most combined wins for any regular-season game in NFL history - 28. That's 3 more than the old record.

Sunday's game in Detroit will be only the 4th in NFL history between two teams that are both 10+ games above .500

2005: Seattle Seahawks (12-2-0) vs. Indianapolis Colts (13-1-0)
1983: Washington Redskins (12-2-0) vs. Dallas Cowboys (12-2-0)
1926: Frankford Yellow Jackets (12-1-1) vs. Bears (11-0-2)

The most wins for a regular season finale (24) also occurred in the 1926 season, when the Pottsville Maroons (10-2-1) travelled downstate to northeast of Philadelphia to play the Frankford Yellow Jackets (14-1-1). The game ended in a 0-0 tie.

The loser will have the most wins of any wild-card team in history. The record was held by the 1999 Tennessee Titans, who had 13 wins, 1 game behind 14-2 Jacksonville in the 6-team AFC Central.

The best comparison for the stakes involved and the gaudy records for both teams might be the final game of the 1967 season. The 11-0-2 Baltimore Colts faced the 10-1-2 Los Angeles Rams, and in that era only division winners made the playoffs. That meant the winner won the Coastal Division and went to the playoffs and the loser's season was over. The Colts lost 34-10 and didn't make the playoffs despite an 11-1-2 record. Johnny Unitas became the first of only two NFL MVPs in league history from a non-playoff team.

Of course, one key difference is the loser's season will not end. They will travel to Los Angeles to play the 5th seeded Rams.

Only four teams have made the Super Bowl by winning 3 straight road playoff games: 1985 Patriots, 2005 Steelers, 2007 Giants, and 2010 Packers. Of those four, only New England lost the Super Bowl after getting there the hard way.

The lions are such an awesome team and story that if I was a fan of any other team, I would be totally rooting for them right now.

These are arguably, the two easiest teams to root for in the entire NFL right now.

Highly drafted quarterbacks who were considered either busts or under performers and were given up on by their initial teams. Inspiring head coaches who are both former players who seem to create a culture that inspire both a love from their players and a respect for them.

Historic franchises who have never won Super Bowls. Top-tier fan bases with very little to look back fondly upon.

Superstars on offense across the board on both teams with very little if any character issues on the roster.

Offensive and defensive coordinators who are considered head coaching candidates in the near future.

Now here’s a guy, Mike Tirico, who 30 years got fired from ESPN for sexually harassing & stalking 6 female coworkers. Now he sits atop the NBC sports empire. If you love the Jared Goff redemption story - who doesn’t? - you just have to love what Asterisk Mike has become.

Derrick Barnes - out with an MCL - is on the sidelines for the first time tonight since his injury.

He’s been rehabbing with Aidan Hutchinson and think he can be ready by February 9.
