Snowmageddon 2022 (4 Viewers)

All I know is if we got 3 feet here the place would be down for a month. This looks pretty brutal - take care all.

Of course weve never seen 30 inches in NYC in my lifetime. So shoveling is gonna be a nightmare.
Neighborhood kids with shovels are everywhere, rookie. I haven't lifted a shovel in 20 years.
I wish i could find kids in my neighborhood to shovel. I used to love going out to shovel. At least in my area seems they dont come around as much.
hell i did it into my twenties, easy money after work and a good substitute for the gym.

We had 2 in one year I think. Unusual to get more than a few inches and we got buried twice. Wasn't one of those but a more recent snow I was out shoveling the drive (gravel driveway  ) and my neighbor with all the cool toys (construction company) pulls up and shoo's me aside and cleared it all in a matter of minutes.

Forecasting 2 feet here in CT. I am fine with anything as long as the power doesn't go out. Times like these I wish I had a garage.

Power going out will be scary with sub 20 degree temps outside. I believe our gas fireplaces will still light with power out, we'll find out. If so, well crowd the girls into the den and turn on a fire and hope for the best. The Land Rover has a full tank, so I believe we should be able to get out in an emergency if we need to.

Good luck all.

Random thoughts... I'll never find out the answer to this, but maybe one of you can:

Do you think you could get a hooker to offer a big discount during a blizzard?

As long as the LIE doesn't get shut down again.

The problem on long island is jot the snow it is the wind taking down frozen and/or weighted down power lines. The infrastructure here is a joke. Second to only the people running the utility. LIPA is gone but the infrastructure is the same garbage. My house loses power in a tame tropical storm. So that is the problem. Learned from sandy. Best thing to do is fill cars with gas. Have an extra can on hand for the blower. Stack up firewood. Power goes out have enough fireweood to burn for two days. Enough water and food for five days. Two days after the storm roads are passable to move on to a place with power and heat. Good luck

If this is anything close to as advertised, I would fully expect the LIE to close to all but emergency vehicles. Only question will be how early will they close it? I'll guess 9 or 10 tomorrow night to give a full chance to people to get home, but obviously the pace of the storm will be the key factor.

If we're getting two inches an hour from 2pm to 6pm, that will be enough to close it. Wasn't the X-Mas storm of a couple years ago the same as this? People were straight up trapped on the LIE in Suffolk.

At least the snow should keep the ruffians to the south inside, so if power does go down for a while, things won't get Sandy bad.

ETA: Thinking of the Feb 2013 storm that stranded folks on the LIE.

We picked up a 6500w generator after Sandy and have 18-20 gallons of fuel on hand. Should the generator fail for whatever reason, we are all set gear wise and have food, water and enough firewood for two or three days. My biggest fear in this old house is pipe freeze. Don't fail me, Briggs & Stratton!

Good point. What is the protocol if power goes out tomorrow night for freezing pipes?

We had two blizzards last winter (our first in 20 years) and one this winter.....nothing to #### around with. Stay safe everyone. Good luck.

I've lived in snow/ice country in the past and we'd let the water stream (on low setting). That and wrap them if you can.

After seeing the 7 ft Buffalo got earlier this winter, I'll never complain about what we get in NJ. 2 ft is nothing. Bring it.

Right now it seems for Philly the prediction is anywhere between 8" and 18"

I guess we find out with this 9 PM model?
Model runs:9 PM (NAM)

10:30 PM (GFS)

11 PM (GEM)

1 AM (EURO)
NAM just finished, way east with bulk of precip. Misses Philly completely, "only" 10" in NYC, BOS still gets buried. One of many models to run tonight.
Meteorologists still saying to ignore the NAM after 24hr that's its pulling the storm too far east and that the euro run will hold true.

It does have a strange solution with 3 low pressure areas depicted off shore instead of one. Could be incorrect. Euro has had remarkable run to run consistency showing the massive amounts so tonight's run will be interesting. One thing for certain, this type of east coast storm, "Miller B", is probably the toughest to correctly computer model and human forecast.

Looks like it's moving way east, the totals for LI and NYC bumped down to 12-18 (from 30 I saw earlier).

Regardless, weatherman is the easiest job on Earth... Only profession you can be wrong all the time and never worry about job security.

We'll end up with 6 inches when this historic never seen before storm leaves.

**ALERT***

my market is out of bread, milk and eggs.

wtf, people- it's NYC. you'll be able to buy #### you won't eat at any one of the 99 million bodegas, markets and drugstores for the rest of the week.

Agree.

The Trader Joe over here is like sold out... Wife's friend went over there near close and said that half the shelves were empty.

Curious to see what the 11 o'clock news says... Are they going to start pulling back on the forecasts, or do they just want to keep the hype rolling along.

In Philly and NYC this storm might be named after you. Congrats
