Snowmageddon 2022 (2 Viewers)

This is incredible. Snow totals of 35, 20, 20 in the last couple of weeks with 0 melting in between. Wow, just wow.
I almost feel bad for the MBTA General Manager who start her job the day after the first storm (Juno). The MTBA is grounded tomorrow for snow related repairs. As she said in a radio interview, there’s “no magic sauce” for trains that are not “spring chickens.”
The new GM resigned on Feb 11th but MBTA is still a mess. Train service has been cut back (underground stations only) and will take another month to get back to normal.

School canceled here about an hour ago for tomorrow, with an inch on the ground, and 4+ on the way.
when is your school vacation week. Ours is this week with the holiday
We don't get a February break, our Spring break is in the end of March. I grew up with February and April Vacation. Liked it as a kid. More stuff to do in the NE.

I'd hate it here now, especially with a CPA wife who can't do a thing until April!

About 5 to 6 inches. I used to think getting a snow blower in my area was giving up. Screw that took me 20 minutes to do everything with that like fluffy snow

 I actually don't mind clearing snow at all with a snow blower. I HATE shoveling.

Ok, next?
Could get a burst of 1 to 2 inches overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Not an impressive system, but has a chance to have a quick, heavy burst as it pushes through. After that, we have a possible weekend system. Still a lot of disagreement from the models on this one. Go figure.

Looking at the long range, the favorable stormy pattern we've been seeing since mid January looks like it'll stay in place until mid March, possibly longer. So if you're a snow lover, there will be a parade of possible chances for about 5 more weeks, at least. And while snow in March has a lot more factors working against it, it's not rare to have big storms throughout the month. The Blizzard of '93 hit mid March, as a good example.

I need to spring for a snow blower next year. This snow was so fluffy, I was able to use my leaf blower to do my driveway. Made me really appreciate how easy it was to get it done.

Call me crazy, but I love the workout.
i used to feel this way. And a day like today it's really easy and not bad. You get that heavy wet snow, screw shoveling especially when I get done quicker. Just waiting for the plows now to plow my drive way back in so I can go blow it again

Shoveling is great exercise. Makes me feel like I'm doing something the same way it was done 100 years ago.

I see a storm moving in for the weekend.. anyone want to hazard a guess on travel conditions Cleveland, OH to Pittsburgh, PA on Sat am and back on Saturday night?

A good chance at a very sizable snow event. That is, based off of what the models would eventually be trending to. And since models have been so amazing this year so far, why not believe it?

Seriously, though, a couple of mets I know seem to really like the potential set up for this weekend. That doesn't mean it is definite by any means, but some of them are really starting to salivate over it. The smart part of my brain says I'll believe it when I see it. Sadly, that part of my brain is a small majority when it comes to rationale thinking. So I'm already giddy with excitement.

A word about the ratios from this past storm that may help going forward regarding how they can be forecasted/anticipated in this area.

A experienced NWS met reported from his station in New Jersey that he received 4.9" of snow which was melted down to .24" liquid equivalent. 20:1 ratio. Mindful that his location was on the northern fringe of the heavier snow, with near perfect omega in the dendrite zone, temps in the teens, and hardly any wind in the lowest levels to break up the dendrites. He said he had "never" experienced that high of a ratio before at that location. In that case an extremely high ratio came in at 20:1, in conditions that are rare for this area.

Conversely DC came in at 4.5" with .51" LE. Under 10:1.

75 today in Bay Area, CA. Will be cooling down to 67 by Sunday. <_<
About the same in San Diego this weekend. We hung out at the zoo all day, watching the grizzly bears frolic in the water to stay cool. The polar bears, on the other hand, just sunned themselves on the rocks cuz the pool was too cold.

No ratio correction needed for the next northeast storm. After a brief start of snow it will rain. Even in Boston. Hope y'all have flood insurance for what was and what will be.

We got about 5 inches of real powdery snow yesterday. Took me about an hour to shovel our decent-sized driveway (roughly 70 feet long).

My neighbor breaks out his monster snowblower and between all the stalling, maneuvering, and clearing of the blower, it took him almost 2 hours.

Well that means the mets you talk to and the mets I talk to disagree completely.

Amazing that we can have record breaking cold the morning of a storm that will eventually bring us rain. I'm really about done with this winter. I guess onto the next storm signal. Come on, end of next week! I just need one.

Just like in every area of life  That said, if your mets were "salivating" over this poor setup of a storm perhaps I can refer you to better mets. ;)

Actually, it wasn't just them. I follow a lot of mets and they were really liking the setup of this weekend. Although the models were not showing it as a big hit, they felt that it had a very good chance of trending to something big. That was mid afternoon, yesterday, though. As of this morning, they are all completely off of this next storm.

I always say that I do this as a hobby, and I've always enjoyed tracking the weather. But this winter has been a nightmare. Makes me glad I'm not a professional. I used to get excited for each model run of every day, but this winter has ruined it for me. It has just sucked the life out of me.

I'm ready for hurricane season. :penalty: (that's me throwing in the towel.)

I hear ya GB. Getting 2.1" out of this last one while DE, SNJ, and VA got hammered did it for me.

Oddly enough, the CMC came back even colder than the previous run. Not sure what's going on there, but I don't see that being correct. Would love it to be correct. But I don't think so.

We are looking at rain this Sunday. It's going to warm up in time for 'storm' and then drop significantly after. YAY!!! :(
Yup. Even places like Boston will see a changeover to rain at some point. It's crazy. Historic cold temps every day except the day it storms. That day, it'll be warm enough for rain. Then, back to freezing temps.

Rain in the Boston Area = Huge Flood Potential!!

Yeah. They had to know it was eventually coming, though. I posted a couple weeks ago that if you lived in Boston and didn't have flood insurance, that was the time to get it. I think it takes 30 days to kick in and it was like Mother Nature was giving you enough time to get it before all of this melted in the Spring.

This rooting for snow thing makes me angrier than it should
I have to agree, I like coming to this post and seeing what the future forecast looks like. It does make me a little angry reading people wanting snow when I have no place left to throw it. My snow blower is on the highest pitch and it is no longer clearing the end of my driveway.

I know that there are some that do look forward to it falling and I try to understand but with what we have received just outside of Boston for me it is enough already!!!!

For those not in the Boston Area, here is a short video from the suburb of Hingham. For those familiar with the town, this is on Main St, driving away from the Old Ship Church toward Hingham Center.

Check out the snowbanks! I remember from the Blizzard of '78, we had huge snowbanks (nothing like this) and we were able to dig awesome snow forts into the banks and have great snowball fights. These times are great when you are just a little kid!!

Yeah, but not everyone has seen snow like Boston. It's like being at a buffet, and being stuffed with food. Then looking outside at the homeless people and getting mad because they are praying for food. I get that Boston doesn't need anymore snow. But just because Boston has a ton of snow doesn't mean that other people in cities that have been deprived of snow shouldn't want it.

I completely understand people wanting it and I do not mind the occasional storm, but I have had enough. I do not blame people for wanting it and I said I completely understand but I am over winter and need something higher than 25 degrees.

It would not have been bad if after the storm there was a small warm up period to melt some of it down but whatever has been falling has been staying. I literally have 5 feet of snow in my backyard.

I hope that people outside of Boston get their wish and for once it misses us completely LOL!!!!

Also thank you to Sheik and Mr. Etced for their forecasts, I do enjoy this tread and I like knowing a few days in advance what I can expect.

Yeah, I get that completely. I have to think that the first 1 or 2 for Boston was pretty exciting. But I'm sure that crap gets old quick.
