Snowmageddon 2022 (1 Viewer)

Contract line crews were passing through my area on I-80 headed east this afternoon. I imagine the NYC-area utilities want as many of their contract/extra-company crews in their hotel rooms by tonight as possible so they can start work the first minute they are able. I know NJ is **real** finicky about knowing when customers are going to be restored.

If your power does go out, here is a handy guide to understanding how the restoration process works in First Energy. Most other utilities will be similar. Most states that I've worked in have the state's utility commission in frequent contact with utilities. I know NJ is very proactive and MD is to a lesser extent.

Here is our FAQ on outages. Your local utility should work pretty much the same way.

We don't care how it happens, just get me my damn Netflix and jail broken fire stick back working again.

;)

It's snowing but 34 degrees here in the DMV. Might as well be raining. Another bust

Aaaand they just closed the schools.

Last night they were calling for 4-8" for Pittsburgh.  I wake up this morning and not a snowflake in sight.  I guess we're in some kind of weird pocket between two systems.   Now they're saying about an inch of snow total.

It must be great to have a job where it doesn't matter if you are right or wrong, day-in and day-out

weathermen and FF prognosticators have it made

Jeff Verzyla tweeted out a picture last night projecting drier air over western PA and stated that if this holds up the snow totals would be much less.

Sleet line just hit me in Hoboken, just west of NYC. It was supposed to stay literally 100 miles south of me.

Hope we're done. Probably just 5 or so inches (sorry ladies) after being pegged for 18".

With this huge storm fail, at least the weather babes get a lot of airtime trying to explain how they got "their" prediction so wrong.
What's frustrating is that they have great incentive to try to save face and it becomes impossible to know what the actual road conditions are. They'll go on and on about how the roads are still treacherous even if it's just slushy out so that they can try to justify all the schools and governments being off.

It makes it really difficult to make the call on whether it's safe to drive or not.

I'm fascinated with how I-95 always seems to be that dividing line for us up here in DE.

ABC says 8-12"

weather underground says we are getting that tomorrow night and then another 6" on Tuesday.
They built it there for a reason
They were so smart, man.  That snow force field works pretty good.

Mostly rain/sleet here instead of 8-12" of snow.  Although that ice is pretty friggin heavy.

Basically nothing where I am in SJ. But that freezing rain/sleet coming down right now is no joke. I'm more afraid to drive on that than I am 6-8" of snow.
Same boat. Kids are home today so I'm probably just, gonna hang home but this was another Armageddon of nothing.

Massive flakes just started back up for me.

So true.

Watching each station is hilarious and pathetic at the same time with a reporter in the streets explaining how difficult it is to shovel 2" or "a car spun out on the cross Bronx expressway, blizzard like conditions (pic of some town in upstate NY), state of emergency declared in 4 states! New England expected to get 24" (thanks but I'm in NJ and don't care about Boston right now) "....all this being shown with apocalyptic themed music.

So terrible what news has become. Report the news, don't sell it.

Is it too hard to just say, snow is coming down but it seems like we may be missing the large amounts originally forecasted?

Drove to A.C. it was a lot of rain - probably 6" of rain. It's bad but glad I didn't burn a day.   Took about 15 minutes longer than normal

It's fairly amazing how last night at 11pm the forecast was for 18" in NYC and now they are saying 3-6". If we could all have success rates like meteorologists at our jobs.
