With the draft on MFL, I think comments here are good. When I'd subscribe to the draft thread, I didn't like getting 20 emails a day for three picks. Now I can just get a text from MFL when it is my pick.

1.01 Adrian Peterson RB1 MIN

2.16 Maurice Jones-Drew RB16 JAC

3.01 Matt Ryan QB5 ATL

Peterson was a pretty easy pick although I am not expecting last years numbers. No competition for carries although I think he will see and should see a decreased workload. Additions on offense could lead to more TD's. Sniffed Foster, but with a healthy Tate I see his workload decreasing.

Couldn't pass MJD as RB16. Don't know what else to really say there.

Ryan pick came down to just wanting a piece of the Jackson/Jones/White/Gonzo pie. If I wanted a top tier QB probably had to do it here.

I contimplated several different scenerios at the 2-3 turn. I was hoping one of S. Jackson or P. Manning would make it or both. When that didn't happen I thought about going White/Fitz (Fitz still scares me a little even with Palmer). I also thought about MJD/Wilson and locking up 3 stud RB's and seeing if I could recover at other positions after that, but thought it would be too risky. Had Hernandez fell I would have had to have considered him. In the end, as I mentioned, instead of just getting one of the pieces of the ATL offense I thought by taking Ryan I would get a little piece of all of them. With only 18 picks in this draft compared to 20 in the others we have done so far, I also felt this gave a little more value to having a top level QB. I know some of the other QB's I passed on are thought of a little more, but I just couldn't get past the talent ATL has around Ryan. For me it was just a matter of preference over the other guys and I think the addition of Jackson as not only as a RB but also his ability to catch (and probably catching in some space) will just make this offense a very tough matchup. Somebody is going to have 1-1 coverage whether thats one of the WR's or Gonzo, or Jackson on a LB. Ryan's gotta be chomping at the bit. I'm probably going 2/4/6/2/2/2 so I figure I will address WR with quantity since I passed in the first 3 rounds. Some might think with only 18 picks it is more important to have studs at the WR position in a start 3 league, instead of a top QB, since you don't have much depth, and I think there is some merit to that. I just thought in a best ball league, I can ham and egg it at WR maybe a little better then doing the QBBC dance I would have to have navigated over the next few rounds had I passed on QB here. No secret I'll be focusing elsewhere from here on out, but I like this start.

Drafting early is a huge advantage this year. You'll have one of the better teams by going stud rb x 2 out of the gate and still getting Ryan. MJD is as good as any back who was draft later in the first on. ADP is worth 1.5 to 2 RBs on his own.

For a bunch of "sharks", the run on RBs has been startling. Still elite talent at WR in a PPR league that are being passed up for RBs that stand as good a chance of finishing as RB2/3s as they do breaking out. Couldn't pass up Victor Cruz to go along with Brandon Marshall. The QB decision was a harder choice, but being at the turn I didn't want to miss out on one and went with Stafford although I toyed with Wilson. RGIII is the obvious gem but with his injury I just can't take the chance.

I would have taken both Cruz/Nicks at that turn and locked up the bulk of the NYG rec production.

Sometimes you have to be a ##### to the runs in these drafts. You have a great first 4 players, but the fact remains that you're going to be 80 picks deep into a draft before you even have the opportunity to take your first RB. Maybe that works out if you hit a homerun on a sleeper, but it's never worked out well for me in the past.

Pander,

No doubt I'll be weak at RB, but I have used that very strategy before and won in this format. With 16 teams and the TE-2ptPPR format you are going to end up with some position that's materially weak on paper. You have to be able to find some kind of value/arbitrage at one position. I realize most will think about waiting for QB, but in a 16-teamer, in an era driven by passing, that's not something I was comfortable doing.

Waiting on the quarterback is more viable in the WSL and PDSL with the twenty rounds and much less so here because we have only 18.

At the last turn snagged two WR1's. They are both going to new teams but should still see a bunch of targets. I REALLY wanted to do something different with one of these picks but just thought the WR pool would be demolished when it came back and in a start 3 I didn't want to have to be deciding between a bunch of mid level guys as my WR2 and WR3 and so on. Hoping to see the QB frenzy take off here with only 12 off the board right now. I think I have a solid foundation here.

I wish that you had let one of them slide

An absolutely phenomenal start to the draft...I knew that with the overwrought run on RBs early one of your early picks would have a chance to grab awesome value at WR -- and you just did.

The sweet spot in these drafts shifted from the late part of the draft to the early part since the WSLs. QBs and WRs are falling much further.

RB is a lot thinner this year it seems, than in years past. I very nearly pulled the trigger on MJD at 2.15, and probably should have. If I had known the quality of WRs would be THAT nice in rounds 5+ I would have.

So far I'm finding it hard to not like a team, but... well... I like pretty much all of them. This should be a great challenge.

Thoughts on T. Austin at 5.15? I was really having a tough time trying to predict his value vs some of the proven/reliable WR2s that were still available.

My thoughts on Austin, who I like a lot for this year. The Cowboys will continue to be a passing team and lean heavily on Romo. Austin is definitely third on the target list behind Bryant and Witten. However, he has caught 81, 69, 43 (on 10 games) and 66 passes over the most recent four seasons. He is ranked 31st on average here, but I have him highest of all staffers at 25. Five other staffers have him at 30 or higher and I got him as the 38th wide receiver. I obviously preferred him to the tight ends remaining as they are flying off the board.

Others wish to weigh in?

picked up Bennett and Locker at the 8-9 turn....was not really expecting that big of a run on TE's in the 6th and fully expected to have more options to choose from in these rounds....so I said screw it and passed on TE at 6-7....Cook was the only guy I would have considered but didn't really see him offering much value yet....and sure enough he is the only TE to go before it came back to me ( I don't count Miller)..... kind of the same for QB2....Locker seemed like the last guy standing without questions and even he has a few....took a real long look at Montee Ball but in the end felt like it was a luxuary I couldn't afford....I would have been way behind the 8 ball at TE or QB2 if I passed on them here with a 30+ pick wait....

my lists were devasted before both of these last turns....at 6-7 I really wanted to see one of Miles Austin/Maclin/Alexander/James Jones as my WR3

and knowing V. Davis probably wasn't going to make it back to me at TE I had planned on taking one of Finley/Pettigrew/Olsen and maybe two of them....when none of things were available I felt kind of "stuck" with Britt as my WR3....I do however like Ingram more now with Ivory gone and feel he is a nice RB3....

at 8-9 turn I really felt the value was at RB and kind of upset I wasn't able to take advantage of it....

I have been scrambling more than I like based on going RB-RB-QB out of the gate. However, I took a chance and built up some equity in the wide receiver corps at the 6-7 turn as I decided to wait on TE. I was stunned by the second tier quarterback run in rounds seven and eight and waited even longer as I selected Matt Schaub in the eighth and waited through the turn for my first tight end. Very happy that only two were taken in between my picks and greatful that Ref was forced to get only one as he also took a second QB at the turn. I expect Keller to perform better than TE 18 where he was selected.

After scrambling for the past five rounds, I am pleased with this team's start and looking forward to being able to look at several positions for the next few rounds. Only bye repeat is week five with my two Tampa Bay players out, providing even better flexibility.

Just added Sidney Rice and Coby Fleener at the last turn.

Probably going to have to run Tom Brady solo, dont quiet remeber the backup Qbs flying off the board like that. Ive won SSl1 with just Peyton Manning before, it can be done!

8 picks to go
