Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread: Kings win 2nd Cup in 3 seasons (2 Viewers)

Price has been declared out for the rest of the series.

Wow just seen the Kreider/Price collision. Price is real lucky he didn't get cut, Kreider goes into his gut skate first.
I don't think it was intentional. If it was, I doubt that Kreider's skate wouldn't have dug into the ice right before Price. He'd have gone in with both skates higher. Kreider is lucky he didn't blow his knee out when the skate dug in.
Therien called Kreider out again for this after the announcement, and of course I'm a fan, but think it's horse####. Not only could Kredier have destroyed his knee with how his skate caught in the ice, as you mentioned, but you can see he starts to lose his balance when Emerlin whacked him across the skate when he dove at him.

They'll be looking for blood tonight and will probably take stupid penalties as a result.
Any word you have heard on Brassard

Would think if he cant go, Moore to center zucc and Poiliet and I would put Carcillo on 4th with Boyle centering
He's skating today but isn't taking line rushes.

This is huge. The backup (Pudaj) doesn't have a very good playoff history and the second backup (Tokarski) is a 24 y.o. with limited NHL experience. If the Habs lose game two with Pudaj in the nets and Pudaj didn't have a great game, you figure they'd have to throw Tokarski in just to hope they catch fire in a bottle.

Pudaj has played in 7 playoff games and is 0-2 with a 5.33 g.a.a.

I can see Prust coming after Kreider. He had some disparaging things to say about Kreider - saying he thought it was intentional. Anyone know if there is any back story between those two? Prust used to play on the Rangers and they played together in 2011-2012 when Kreider was called up during the Ranger's playoff run.

Asked if he would have done anything differently on the play, Kreider says "I wish I would've put the puck in the net."

This sucks. Now you would think that the Rangers should win and my expectation is that they should, and rather easily. But this is the kind of situation that will lead to some kind of superpowers for the Habs and the Rangers will do their Jekkyl Hyde thing and they will be down 3-2 going into game 6 with us going, really? WTeverlovingF!?!

Clear as day, but that's typical Canadiens. It's never their fault. Put the RCMP on high alert!

I don't think it was intentional but if someone did that to the King, I'm sure Rangers fans and coaches would be saying something pretty similar. If either goalie went/goes down, their season is pretty much over.

Besides, he didn't really say anything that incendiary. Just said, he didn't try as hard to avoid the goalie, which, given the fact he said he was trying to score, is probably accurate.

Habs can win with Budaj.
I think they can beat the Rangers maybe, but they aren't beating anyone in the finals with him. I guess one step at a time...
I'm only talking about the Rangers.
He's only been ruled out of the ECF.
understood, I was clarifying for DrD.

let me be perfectly clear...Budaj is a capable, often streaky, backup who is plenty good enough to backstop against a fairly evenly matched Rangers team. Price was never going to need to steal this series, neither will Budaj. Habs need to be worried about the Rangers' speed, playing their structured game, and staying out of the box. this doesn't take a huge hit to their chances, it still should be a close series.

The Blues resigned Brian Elliot and will be bringing up Jake Allen next year to get plenty of PT as well. Ryan Miller will not be coming back. :bye:
That deal is going to set the Blues back quite a bit in this ultra-competitive and young division - hard to see how they will stay abreast of Minnesota, Colorado and Dallas - and Chicago great shape although they have to deal with Kane and Toews contracts.

Awesome quote.
Prust will make him wish he were more contrite.
So another two minors and a 10 minute misconduct?
I don't think you will see anything stupid tonight unless there's another blowout but you might if the series is ever in jeopardy.

Hope he sweeps you guys in the playoffs
If Miller can finally win his first playoff series since 2007 against anybody, I'll give him some props. :hifive:

Should be interesting to see what moves they make in getting some help on offense. However, don't forget the Blues have some young talent that will get better.

I haven't heard any backstory with them - they were teammates for a brief while, as you said, but nothing memorable IIRC. But in any case, I'm sure that doesn't matter know with Prust either way. I can't see Prust doing anything stupid - and I mean Bertuzzi or McSorley stupid - but if the game gets out of hand, expect some fisticuffs to fly.

I do think I speak on behalf of all Rangers fans that we've experienced too much heartbreak over the years to believe that the Price injury means a series win. It's just like the Blueshirts to make it a nailbiting struggle up until the very end.

The guys on HNiC radio don't think it's gonna be Budaj. Evidently they have some young hotshot goalie who may get the call. Didn't catch his name.

He's got a funky name. Almost positive I saw him play a game or two when Price was on the shelf.

ETA: I'm driving. Otherwise I'd look it up.

Pierre is on with Francesa as I type this. He's talking up Budaj as a clutch, veteran performer. Two seconds later, Francesa tells him that the kid is starting.

:lmao:

Surprised at tonight's line:

NYR -106

MTL -104
Why?
I'm guessing its the loss of Price. Even though some have faith in his replacement, that's a huge blow to the Habs. Many consider Price as the primary reason for the Habs taking down Boston.
it moved 20 cents because of Price
I didn't see the line pre the announcement, I just figured the Rangers would be a favorite instead of a pick em.

And seriously, f the habs. No one made a big stink on the late hit on Brassard. No one wants to see anyone get hurt for either side, I don't think the Kreider incident was very intentional, he's not that kind of player.

FWIW, I always liked Prust, he is a hard, gritty player, not one to take cheap shots - although will light someone up when given the chance and certainly in for a fight to back up his team mates. Like a Chris Neil guy who gave the Rangers fits a few years back with Ottawa.

Should be a very spirited game tonight.

So are the Rags a no-brainer bet tonight?

And the total is 5 again.
Rangers haven't won a game while ahead in a playoff series since 2009.

I bet them game one. I'm not playing them this game - i do think over may be a better play. You'd have to expect there to be a number of power play opportunities tonight for both teams.

hmmm, wonder if Rangers play Carcillo tonight. Might be a good night for Kreider to get some rest for his sore hand.
If they play Carcillo, it would be because of the need to fill Brassard's spot, not for any toughness concerns. Kreider is a big boy and can handle himself. Not to mention based on Game 1, Montreal has little shot of even catching him. If their plan is to throw a blatant blind elbow or pull a Bertuzzi, go ahead...the series will be over.

I wouldn't bet the Rangers tonight. Not a reverse jinx just a recognition of how this playoffs and much of the season has gone. I'm going to hate it every step of the way but this is going to be 1-1 heading back to the Garden I'd bet. And to be honest, I would have taken that before the series started so I'm happy at 1-1 just not as happy as I would be at 2-0.
