Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread: Kings win 2nd Cup in 3 seasons (1 Viewer)

He might not have been a dirty player before today, but he is one now. Launching your shoulder at a guy's head like that...yeah, that takes real balls to do that. That's as dirty as it gets.

So frustrating. Wild come out like a buzz saw and after 10 min it's 1-1. Really only gave up a handful of quality chances and Bryz lets them down with a couple he should stop and MacKinnon kills them. Varly was fantastic and steals one IMO while the Avs also block 27 shots, 59 SOG+blocked in total. Kuemper will start the rest of this series and looked great in his first action since injury. But man is it deflating to not go home without at least one win in those two games. Ugh

#### you, Brent Seabrook. No way should he play the remainder of the playoffs, for however long Chicago is still alive.

Nice of the Blues to come back and win and make them pay for that dirty hit.
Seabrook is not a dirty player, I think he took his eye off the puck and then committed too early to check Backes. He didn't leave his skates, has no history of this type of thing, and I can't think it was intentional. I hope Backes comes back and scores a key goal for the Blues, but I think Seabrook deserves one game at most.
Suspension due because of Backes being injured? I know that's how they decide, but I don't think he should be suspended. The 5 minute major was more than plenty IMO.

Pretty clear head target whether it was intentional or not. I don't think malice was there, but the hit was definitely within the scope of suspension according to the bylaws as I understand them.

Well the by laws also say that a player can leave himself vulnerable and bear some responsibility. Despite what rockaction claims he seen, Seabrook didnt leap into his head, Backes head was level with his shoulder when he applied the hit.

Must not watch hockey much. You could put a video together of regular season hits similar to this which didn't even receive suspensions.

No problem with the 5 and wouldn't be surprised if he gets a game or two b/c of the outcome but lets not blow this out of proportion.

Go Wings!

But didn't vote for them. Though we won Friday night, there's a reason we're the 8-seed and playing the best team in the NHL right now.

Word around the campfire is Gudlevskis gets the start tonight. Should be good shtick. 2nd career start while down 0-2 in the playoffs at Montreal. Go get em kid.

Also, anyone who draws a comparison between soccer shootouts and hockey breakaways hasn't really, IMO, drawn the analogy correctly. How many twelve-footers that are stagnant do you see in soccer?

You at least see breakaways in hockey w/in the course of the game.
78 so far in the Premier League this year.

Friedman: Anders Lindback first off the ice for the #TBLightning.

Cannot wait for when Colorado meets Chicago in the second round.

Every expert will say Chicago wins the series in a landslide.
Colorado spanked Hawks this year. As a Hawks fan, I feel lucky they are playing St. Louis.
No they didn't. Varlamov stood on his head. The Avs are a small favorite over the Wild for a reason.

Avs have the weakest defense in the West.

3/6/14 - COL 4, CHI 2 (4th goal was an empty netter)

shots were 38-21 in favor of Chicago. Colorado only managed 3 shots on goal in the 1st period.

3/12/14 - CHI 2, COL 3

shots were 39-29 in favor of Chicago. Raanta was in net.

1/14/14 - COL 3, CHI 2 (in OT)

shots were 48-26 in favor of Chicago.

12/27 - CHI 7, COL 2

shots were 37-18 in favor of Chicago. Giguere got the start and was pulled after giving up all 7 goals.

11/19 - CHI 1, COL 5

shots were 37-23 in favor of Chicago. Crawford got the start and was pulled after giving up 3 goals on 7 shots.

Colorado did win 4 of 5, but they were outshot badly in every game.

Varlamov always stands on his head, so what if they needed less shots to beat us, they are only one of a couple teams that can play a wide open game against the Hawks and live to tell about it.

Emery is so slow from left to right. So easy to beat him just moving the puck side to side.
It's easy and they know it, he had a wide open shot in the slot and dished it off to St Louis. I like razor but he's in a bad spot, not his fault.

I'm awaiting ditka311's comments on yesterday's festivities. A knee on knee and a head hit minutes apart. Those Blues are so dirty!
Obviously don't condone either. I think there was probably more intent to harm on the knee to knee to be honest but the hit on Backes was more violent. Hate seeing that from any team, especially the one you cheer for.

That said - let's not act like the Blues are a bunch of choirboys.

Well see, I've seen this happen in the playoffs with no suspension. So I hope you can appreciate my (jaded?) view.

Now ^^THAT'S^^ considered leaping rockaction.
Still think Seabrook was in the act of leaving his feet to my eye. I'm sure you've watched hockey for a long time, but it's something you just see. On my end, I still think he's leaving his feet and knows the puck is ten feet away. I think guys get way too much leeway with that stuff. These guys play at the highest level, have the best peripheral vision, have the best skills. Watching pros do skill stuff -- even the goons -- is silly. I don't buy that he was clueless. Even Roenick was -- while not apologizing at all -- saying that the Hawks were trying to run Backes for Backes's rough play.

But that's just my take.

That's pretty niggling, IMO. I'm talking how breakaways are closer to penalty shots in hockey than anything you'll get in the flow of soccer to penalties.

eta* But I get point, and it is taken. Penalties are a part of soccer. No doubt.
