Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread: Kings win 2nd Cup in 3 seasons (1 Viewer)

The Bruins have to be  for losing to this merry little band of try-hard Rudy scrubs.
Montreal was built to beat the Bruins... that was their goal (sort of their Stanley Cup) Unfortunately, they have now become the Bruins (minus the 15 hit posts) as they can't handle the Rangers speed and forecheck and the Montreal D keep getting turned...

The only thing keeping Montreal close is the Rangers' proclivity for defensive zone turnovers...they are so careless with the puck
This has been a real head-scratcher for me. It was flaring up during the prior two series but I chalked it up to those guys being tired, as it just wasn't something that I remember seeing very much ever since Del Zotto got sent packing. But I thought Staal was horrendous in the 1st yesterday, and then you had Zucc being unable to get the puck out of his skates and Hank poking the puck into his own net off Pacc.

I thought Montreal played a good game yesterday. They put alot of pressure on the forecheck which led to turnovers. Some of the air was taken out of the Canadians with the Ranger's second goal, but they still played with fairly high intensity until the end. If they keep up the intensity (and Hank comes back to earth a bit), they can still win the series.

Not to put the cart before the horse, but these Stanley Cup Finals tickets are going to be ridiculously expensive (should they get there)...

Worst seats in the garden are $760 and you need binoculars in those... Decent seats are $2500... Even center ice top deck are $1500 a seat.

Nothing new. Scalpers were getting 500-1,000 bucks for blue seats last time around and that was 20 years ago. I showed up with $200 and hoped for a miracle. Ended up spending it on booze at the Blarney Rock.
Had no idea you were a Rangers fan. Rangers and Pantera :tebow:
Diehard since the 70s. I just don't post here very often.

Don't watch too much hockey but I am really into this Ranger run here. Fun stuff and dare I say reminding me of '94. That performance by Lundqvist last night was one of the better goaltending efforts I've ever seen.

Fun stuff.

Interesting interview: One of the Rangers said they were specifically trying not to turn the puck over at the offensive blue line because the Canadiens are a really good counterpunch team.

Noticed that with the Bruins. You can dominate play, and then the counter attack happens and you're dead.

So cool hockey strategy. I think it was Dorsett that commented on that. Good stuff.
Easy to see it in effect too. The Ranger defensemen will almost always shoot the puck along the boards if there is a defender in front of them. I noticed that the Rangers D only had two shots where the shot could have been blocked up close. Montreal had ca. 8 shots like that - although about 3-4 of those shots were by someone who shoots the puck 110 mph, so that does alter the idea a bit. If you're a forward who gets hit by a 110 mph slapshot, chances are you're not going to be making a play on the counter.
he's talking about entering the zone.

and that's always a bad place to turn the puck over, not just against the Rangers. you don't turn it over there, you get it deep. every coach preaches that.

Yes. I know that's hockey strategy, but some teams do it more frequently than others. I thought it was interesting the Rangers were stressing it based on Montreal's counter attack, which looks like a soccer counter attack. They took sixteen shots or so against Boston in Game 7 up until a few minutes left, which was pointed out.

No big deal. Just an observation.

I used to like Bucci and then he had to do that. I will feel sorry for him when the Rangers take game 3. A little.
If the Rags lose, just plan a trip to Euro Disney with the money you'd have spent on SC Final tickets.
I wouldn't be the one buying tickets. No chance I spend that much to go to a sporting event unless Kate Upton is going to be meeting my needs at the intermissions. I could stay home, let my wife cook me dinner, put the kids to bed watch the game and let her take care of me during the intermission for a hell of a lot less money. Up front at least.

Just found out the receptionist that reports to me likes the Blackhawks. Gonna be a long week for her when the Rangers beat the Hawks for the chalice.

IF both teams make it (BIG if), the series won't go well for the Rags. Even King Henrik won't be able to steal it.

Sounds like Jim Benning will finally be named the Canucks new GM by the end of the week according to multiple reports.

He was the top guy I wanted as the Caps new GM and it seems as if Don Sweeney,Paul Fenton and Ray Shero are now the front runners for the job.

Also talk that Trotz has been in talks with the Caps to be the new coach and with Fenton or Shero as the GM I could see that playing out with ease but unless they already have something worked out I would hope they hire the GM first and let him pick his guy even though I think Trotz is a very solid coach no matter what.

Why are you such a Rangers hater? Also, please stop calling them the "Rags," that offends me deeply.
That's what they are...Rags

I don't hate the Rangers. I don't think they're a very good team but I don't hate them.

All of the teams that LA and Chicago beat to get to the conference finals are stronger than NY IMO.

I didn't know Rags was a derogatory name--I will cease referring to them as such.

I suppose that's why they play the game. Not sure many pegged them to get past Pittsburgh, myself included, and especially after being down 3-1. But with the way Lundqvist is playing, in addition to balanced scoring, and St. Louis and Nash (seemingly) coming on of late, it's about as foolish to say they have no chance against LA or Chicago as it is to say they are a guarantee to make it to the SCF.

And I was busting your chops about the Rags.

I never said they couldn't win the final.
