Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread: Kings win 2nd Cup in 3 seasons (3 Viewers)

Wow. The denial of Toews had me convinced this game was over and Bickell put it in. Good work. This got a whole lot more interesting with all this talent.

Interesting how Roy seemed to change how teams pull their goalies, at least going from recent memory.
Teams in the past tended to get more aggressive before when down 2 or more. Roy pulling his goalie down just 1 and with 3+ minutes left definitely is something to watch.

Quick is actually posting outstanding numbers if you throw out the first 3 playoff games. I think a lot of people are missing that by just looking at overall playoff performance.

Well, sure. He has been awesome since Game 4 of the first round, but when discussing his overall playoff performance, it all counts.

Why should it? Isn't it more important that he's rolling now? Why does it matter that he gave up 6 and 7 goals in the first two playoff games at this point? What i'm saying is I'm not discussing his overall playoff performance.

To clarify, it doesn't, but if the Kings win it all, those first three games could work against Quick when it comes to the Conn Smythe. That is all I meant.

I get the feeling that one of these teams is coming back from 3-1 down to win the series. CHI more likely than MTL.
Toews wants to jump out of the freaking locker room during the interview, but handles it with class.

I think this series goes back to LA. But LA is so. freaking. solid.

Hawks appear to be out of gas. With the Olympics and last year's Cup, they've played more hockey than any team in NHL history and it's caught up to them. Barry Rozner wrote about this in today's Daily Herald.

Former director of hockey Ops for Wash had this to say about the new GM of the Caps: https://twitter.com/tsnsimmer/status/471053438756077570
And he is right.

Trotz I love bringing in but not bringing in another set of eyes to fix this mess just screams to me this organization is screwed and it starts at the top with Ted and **** Patrick.

Needless to say the fan base isn't too happy about the GM hire and for good reason,it just makes no sense.

Yep. The Hawks were clearly a step slow last night. Kane and Sharp are practically invisible in this series. Toews was great in Game 3, but was terrible in game 4.....he seemed to lose every key faceoff.

And their D, wow, that was terrible, especially Seabrook. Crawford had no chance on the Muzzin blast for the 1st goal, as well as the Brown open netter for the 3rd goal.

I think they will win Game 5 in CHI, and LA will close it out in Game 6.

Rangers need to end this series now. I expected it to go 7 but if it goes 7 at this point it's ungood. Step on the neck, never give up never surrender, win one for the gipper, hey everyone we're all gonna get laid.... whatever it takes....

The Rangers are a hungry team right now. In the past you know there is no way in hell the Rangers win gave five, but I don't think they have a letdown this time. Even if they lose, they will play game five tough.

Remembering Peter Zezel

never knew about this part

On March 23, 1999, the Canucks traded Zezel to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in exchange for future considerations. Zezel declined to report to Anaheim, and instead returned to Ontario. The NHL voided the deal.

Zezel had a deeply personal reason for not going to California. His three-year-old niece Jillian, whom the unmarried and childless Zezel adored, was dying of nuroblastoma (a form of cancer). Zezel had requested a trade to either the Maple Leafs or Buffalo Sabres so he could be in closer proximity to his sister's family in Scarborough. Instead, Canucks general manager Brian Burke dealt him to the Ducks; the most geographically distant team in the NHL from Toronto. Zezel announced his retirement and went to Scarborough to be supportive to his family.

On May 16. 1999, Jilliann died. Peter never returned to the NHL but did later play a few games per season for the Cambridge Hornets of the Ontario Hockey Association's Major League Hockey circuit. Over the final 11 years of his too-short life, Zezel devoted much of his time and effort to operating youth hockey and soccer camps. That became his greatest passion.

So..are my LA Kings going to finish off these fools in Chi-town?
Don't know about in Chicago, but I think the Kings take it. And as the whispers of dynasty are snuffed out in Chicago their seeds are being planted in LA. I know it's way early, but 2 cups in 3 years with the 3rd being a WCF loss to the eventual SC winner would be extremely impressive.

Never knew QG to be a big-time Rangers fan, welcome aboard  Always enjoyed your work in the soccer thread.

Tonight, I'm starting with a nice scotch. I am honestly cautiously optimistic that the Rangers can pull out a win here. If they don't, my children will not be allowed near my presence for games 6 and 7.

I think Richards has a good game tonight. But, I'm really, really hoping the officiating is decent tonight. I don't often ##### about the refs (okay, no more than any other homer), but the last game was ridiculous. It was as if there was a mandate out that the series should go 7 and call anything against the Rangers, and not so much against the Canadians. I think that every Ranger penalty was a penalty, all 8 of them, but nfw the Canadians didn't have a few 2-3 more that should have been called against them. Let's decide this one 5v5, I think that favors the Rangers.

Rangers need to get more pucks on net. Tokarski was having trouble with rebounds throughout G4 and they're making it too easy on him.
