Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread: Kings win 2nd Cup in 3 seasons (1 Viewer)

where did all that speed go in the 3rd period when the Rangers were outshot like 20-2 in a tie game? weren't they well rested?
They got outclassed in the third, but they kind of outclassed the Kings in the first two. So which counts? It also showed up on Hagelin's breakaway with a minute left. Kings are better, IMO. Appreciably. I picked 'em, and picked them last series, too.

I'm not arguing for the Rangers. I just think dismissing a team and its strengths is dangerous.
I think team speed can be a factor in a series, but the Rangers are rolling 4 lines and I don't think half of them have much speed at all. So, saying the team is fast because of 2 or 3 players seems weird to me.

When you can forecheck and dominate the puck as well as the Kings can, it also won't matter too much. Obviously the Rangers need to counter attack and generate odd man rushes to stay in this series. That worked for them early on last night as the Kings were pretty sloppy to start the game, but once they got going it looked like a complete mismatch except for Lundqvist.

I win more money if the Rangers win, but I don't think they have much of a chance unfortunately.
Half is quite a bit, though, isn't it? I don't wanna push too much, man. Seriously. My complaint was more with the self-assuredness and dismissiveness of the meme when many other people are seeing it differently.

But half seems like a lot. Especially when Vigneault tightens up his lines, which he'll have to do.

Kings still win, IMO. Best of luck to everyone and their future bets.
Rangers TOI leaders in the playoffs among forwards:

St Louis

Stepan

Nash

Richards

Zuccarello

Hagelin

Kreider

Pouliot

Brassard

Boyle

Moore

everybody else gets less than 10 minutes/game

Zuccarello, Hagelin, and Kreider get 5th, 6th, and 7th most minutes. Marty can fly but he's also 39yo.

Kings top forwards in terms of ice time:

Kopitar

Carter

Gaborik

Stoll

Brown

Williams

Richards

King

Toffoli

Lewis

Pearson

I don't think guys like Kopitar, Carter, Gaborik, Stoll, M.Richards are slow.

When the Kings were going up and down nwith Chicago, they looked pretty fast to me. They just don't normally play a style that requires them to outskate everybody because they usually have the puck for long stretches of time.
Point taken.

Girardi should have just used all that speed and skated by everyone instead of turning it over at the blue line. didn't he know that the Kings are helpless against their speed?
He's a speed demon.
So Hagelin has a shorthanded break with a minute left and you guys are still going to push this meme?

Kings are better. Everyone knows. Team speed is a factor. Nobody should deny it.
it would help if you even understood what we were ripping.
do you think Sutter told everyone before the series to go rent the movie Speed?

Yeah, kinda done with this. Too bad.

Chet, where was the gift card to? Which store/restaurant/whatever?
My bookie didn't want to take my $100 50-1 bet on Nash being the playoff MVP so he offered me a $500 "freeroll" instead. Meaning that if Nash wins, he will credit me $500 and I am out nothing if he loses.

I'm not done. Watching the game right now.

"Hagelin just wanted to create a foot race against Voynov. This is a part of the a part of the game I don't think the LA Kings were prepared for. These guys are much quicker than the guys the Kings have played out West, from the first line to the fourth line. The NYR are winning the track meet right now. "

So really, make it personal and have fun. You're still wrong.

eta* We need a brawl.

eta2* Blondie's "Atomic" is the closest I can come to Demonic.

Kenny Albert or Joe Micheletti said it--it must be true.

Always. Citing authority. But fun to hear from a former coach and future GM.

Where are we, again?

Even the Kings were surprised at how fast the Rangers were. Keep at it though. :deadhorse:

Even better.

Eddie calls Pierre out at least once per game for saying something stupid.

kentric = Pierre Maguire?

did Pierre mention where Hagelin learned to skate fast? Maybe it was at Michigan?

No, I've been paying attention. I get it. I knew that would be the response. Doubters.

Where was McDonagh going on the winning goal?
To lead a potential 3 on 1, worst case 3 on 2, rush. Standard play when there's a transition opportunity and pretty much the entire basis of the Rangers offense these days.
True, but McDonagh's first responsibility when the puck is that deep in the zone is to not leave his defensive partner alone with two aggressive forecheckers on him. I am sure he knows he should have been there to help Girardi out.
Sorry, this is complete MMQBing. They've been doing this all year, it's the basis of the system and it's why McD has taken off offensively. They weren't "aggressively forechecking" until Girardi lost control of the puck. In fact, Richards was calling to the bench for a change and was turning to go off the ice before he saw Girardi #### up which got him back into the zone where he intercepted the pass Girardi made from his knees.I say with 100% confidence that the Rangers wouldn't have even been playing last night if the initial inclination for McDonagh was to sit back when he sees a ####load of open ice in front of him, Zucc heading up ice, and Brassard having a ton of space to himself on the other side of the red line.
Yeah, that's a tough call watching the replay again, since Williams was McDonagh's man on that side of the ice. Richards was calling for the line change, but he also hadn't turned toward the bench yet and there still were two other Kings deep in the zone with only Girardi. Definitely a "gamble" that backfired.
Gotcha RUSF. The bolded in DDs comment is the reason it surprised me. Girardi didn't appear to have a clean out even if it didn't bounce on him, and McDonagh was already headed out of the zone. Didn't seem like the safest play is all.

Not sure it was mentioned, but Pierre McGuire is a candidate for the Penguins GM job.
Sounds like he's one of the final 3 who's got a chance. Can't imagine the outrage from Pens fans if he's hired.
Already had a second interview. I really hope this happens.

For Pens fans, super fan Cy died of cancer today. The same day the city was awarded an

NHL team in the 60s. Video of Pens flyers brawl with Lavy and Tony G. going at it, and Edzo calls Cy hulk Hogans little brother and Pierre responds "ya he wishes": http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mgKCdGnVJxM

He's the same guy who got kicked out for holding a Pierre sign that said "Regis" with some vulgar stuff on the back of the sign.

Rumors I'm hearing isn't the cancer that got him but suicide with the possibility of Pierre becoming GM.

Speed is on the Oxygen channel right now (seriously).

Starring Keanu Reeves and Carl Hagelin as the bus driver.
Kinda can't wait until Darryl Sutter sniffs at the speed question, says they should win Game Eight, too, and everybody explodes like he's a savant. It's the only way it could get HOTTER for me and a few others in this thread amongst the intelligentsia.

Christ, even Mike Keenan has chimed in about speed. This is ####### hilarious.

I’d be encouraged by the fact that they’ve got good speed, and surprising speed. I don’t think the LA Kings were ready for the Rangers’ speed. Carl Hagelin generated some great chances on the penalty killing in particular. That was a big surprise for Los Angeles, there’s no question about it. - Mike Keenan

Honestly, this is getting funny.

HOT SPORTS IRONY FROM GUYS WHO PICKED NOTHING!

Hagelin, Stepan, and company. http://nypost.com/2014/06/06/rangers-think-speed-is-the-ticket-for-recovery/

About time to shut me up, too, or I'll be here all the week.

eta* Not directed at RN.

eta2* Also, Sutter from Grantland, for guys that enjoy it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=F1umjn9m_Rc

Gotta have a narrative...
I know, man. I know. Gotta sell it as possible, gotta have an acceptable story, etc. It's not a great take. All I have is the quotations of beat reporters, players, coaches, etc.

Against two internet jocks that can't pick a paper ####### bag against a person.
