This thread has been mind blowing for me. Apparently the fancy, reserved seat, cocktails, waitress service movie theaters are all over the place, but there's nothing like this anywhere close to my house. The best I've found is a single theater an hour from my house that has reserved stadium seating up front.

This is infuriating. I would gladly pay 40 or 50 bucks a ticket for a high end theater with no riff raff and tons of amenities. Why doesn't this exist here? FML
And you live in NYC, the alleged cultural center of America? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
Weir right?

(ps ... I'm not sure a Michelob light and pretzel dip while watching "Jurassic World" is really what a "cultural center" is all about -- it turns out we have Broadway and every museum that ever mattered -- but I'm still surprised the NYC area doesn't have this yet).
You haven't watched a movie until you have watched a movie with a beer and a pretzel.

I never buy the hsit that kids sell in supermarket lobbies, door to door, etc. Why do i need to buy that overpriced crap so you can go to camp/see a movie/scouts/sports team? I apparently hate America.

My youngest son sold over (A LOT) $600 of popcorn for the Scouts so he "won" two tickets to a private screening tomorrow. Can't wait. Needless to say, he rules. He would ask people to buy popcorn and if they said "no" he would sheepishly say something like "oh I thought you liked America" then they almost always bought.
I'd go buy some popcorn somewhere else and under cut his prices.

I'm wondering if I saw the wrong movie. What a festering pile of steaming feces.

Don't listen to this one
im as disappointed as anyone. i was looking forward to it :kicksrock:
you are one of a select few that are disapointed though. Also disappointed <> festering pile of ####.
true. but they're not mutually exclusive either.
But it shows you aren't impartial, for whatever reason. Unless you have an even more colorful insult to apply to the way way way way way worse prequel trilogy, something multiple tiers below "festering pile of ####".

Or you could just admit you went way overboard and it maybe just wasn't up your particular alley.

sorry if I upset you. I hated it.

You didn't answer the question, though--If it was a "festering pile of ####", how would you describe the prequels? To me, there's no language that could describe a gap big enough between those two things if you are starting at "festering pile of ####" and trying to work downwards towards the prequels.

Which to me says that you just have a flair for overstatement, regardless of how you felt about the movie its clearly disingenuous to describe it this way in a thread for people who haven't seen it yet and are looking for non-spoiler thoughts about it.

i liked Revenge of the Sith better. And I didn't like Revenge of the Sith. Does that help?

you are being fished, just cut bait.

If someone did not like the movie, the normal reaction is one post to make your opinion heard. When some one dumps on the same thing multiple times they are just trolling looking for reaction.

I took my three kids last night. So, so good. I'd like to try out 3D next time. I think there's no way to get to another one this weekend though. So over Christmas break it is.

Just came from my second viewing, this time in 3D (by accident...women) A couple cool effects, but nothing so great that it's must see in 3D. Then again I'm on record as saying no movie is worth it in 3D, so take it FWIW. (prolly not much)

I'm gonna see it for the 2nd time in 3D (first time was not 3D). I figure since I know what's gonna happen I can focus less on that and enjoy the ride and effects of the 3D, as well as pay a little more attention to a few of the scenes that need a 2nd viewing to fully absorb them.

TFA made 33% more on opening day than any other film in the history of film.

I think it's safe to say we'll be seeing plenty more Star Wars films.

Just watched it last night with my wife (who had never seen a Star Wars film in the theater). We were both blown away by it and I'm going to try to catch it a couple more times on the big screen. Something tells me I'll have months of time to do so.

Downloading the original trilogy to watch this weekend. Seeing the new one made me wanna see them all again...I haven't watched any of them in probably 15 years...and now I can watch em in HD :excited:

Ok fine. I may just go see this by myself. My kids are too young, and my wife has little interest and babysitters are hard to get. Thinking about wandering over to the local theater and getting whatever showing is available tonight. Shouldn't be hard to get one ticket.

There's so many showings you should be fine to get one.

Picked up tickets 3 hours early. 10 people in line. Went to the bar and drank a few beers. In line 1:40 early, 1 hour before they open the theatre, and am about 50th in line. Not too bad. Lots of peeps showing up now tho.

So are there long lines just to get in, if you have a ticket and the seats are reserved?
This sounds like a really dumb question...but this reserved seating thing is pretty new to me. I assume the entire theater is reserved seating and everyone shows up and flows in at steady pace.

Yea there's no rush. With reserved seating you can show up at 9:15 for a 9:00 show and skip previews. Your seats are yours, it's a beautiful thing.

Well. I got a parking spot right in front of this brand new nice theater that opened last week. Huge leather recliners. Bought ticket for a show starting in an hour, but the kid suggested I peek into the one starting in ten minutes. Walked in and got a seat dead center. Previews rolling. Nicest theater I have ever been in. I can stretch my legs out as far as possible and my foot is still a foot from the seats in front of us.

Welcome to the 21st century Otis - we have been waiting for you...

Tried to see it yesterday but had to leave 30 minutes in due to an unspecified threat against the theater. They ended up finding and arresting the guy.

Saw it tonight instead. Too early to process it fully but it was very good. Felt a little too familiar to me, but it was well-acted, well-written and well-directed. Now they need to take the franchise in a new direction since they've proven then can do an old-school SW story.

... take the babysitter.

At Disney for the weekend and at downtown Disney there is a pretty big Star Wars store (every store has stuff for SW in there really). Anyways you can buy tshirt, toys, mugs, posters, etc for both the new movie and 4-6. What you can't buy however, is anything from episodes 1-3. Literally nothing. Didn't see one item from the prequel trilogies.

So either Disney is trying to just make those go away or they figure none of the stuff will sell. I just thought it was interesting. I mean, I saw 4 different shirts for Empire and I wasn't even looking that hard.

The Force is back, and it’s stronger than ever.

J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens shattered numerous box-office records over the weekend, grossing $238 million in North America — the biggest opening of all time, not accounting for inflation — for a global launch of $517 million.

The previous biggest domestic opening was this summer’s Jurassic World with $208.8 million. Worldwide, Force Awakens scored the second-biggest start of all time behind Jurassic World ($524.9 million), which had the advantage of opening day and date in China. Force Awakens doesn’t debut in the world’s second-largest moviegoing market until Jan. 9.
