Star Wars Episode 8 Catch All Thread (1 Viewer)

Doesn't need to be a central theme to the story...hell, it could be a post credits vignette ala The Marvel Universe.  Plus, If Rey is Obi-Wans decendent and/or Snoke is Plagieus......those are mos def events that could be Easter Egged in Rogue Squadron.
Rumor that Felicity Jones' character  is Rey's mom, FWIW.  That's a nice tie to the new series.

George Lucas' Wild Theory About the Narrator of Star Wars Makes So Much Sense

We all know who the main characters of George Lucas’ six Star Wars films are: Anakin Skywalker, his son and daughter, and their friends. But who’s the narrator? Turns out Lucas had a crazy theory that makes total sense.

On the set of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Lucas shared his ideas with animation director Rob Coleman, when Coleman arrived for his first day. As Chris Taylor relates in his fantastic book How Star Wars Conquered the Universe, Lucas told Coleman “his ultimate framing device.” Taylor writes:

“The entire story of Star Wars is actually being recounted to the keeper of the Journal of the Whills—remember that?—a hundred years after the events of Return of the Jedi by none other than R2-D2.”

If the Original Trilogy and the prequels are a story being told by R2-D2, this explains a lot, as Taylor points out. RD-D2 “is prominent in every movie,” and when Episode I begins he’s already “fully formed,” unlike C-3PO. He doesn’t get his mind wiped at the end of Episode III, the way C-3PO does, so he remembers all the events of the prequels. And then in Episode IV, he’s very determined to get to Obi-Wan Kenobi, over Threepio’s protests—perhaps because he remembers Obi-Wan from before, and wants to ensure that “his former master’s son rescues his former master’s daughter.”

But also, if R2-D2 is the one telling the story, that would explain why R2-D2 is always so heroic, Taylor writes. He saves the lives of pretty much every major character in all six movies, and he never makes a single mistake. In a saga that’s full of flawed characters who screw up constantly, Artoo is always right. Maybe because he’s the narrator, according to George Lucas.

Wasn't R2 basically comatose for 95% of Episode VII?  Must've had BB8 fill him in on all the goings on on Jakku/Maz Kanata's pad/Starkiller Base to be able to narrate everything that happened in The Force Awakens up to the point when Rey shows up at the Resistance base.

ETA: Loving the quoting "upgrade".

Rumor on episode 8 plot

Rey is actually the Chosen One.  But its not what you think.  Anakin was also the Chosen One. In fact, they are the same soul.  Rey is Anakin reincarnated.  There will be a vision quest in episode 8 where this is explained, and you will see Heyden Christiansen in the vision quest and Rey will remember being him.  In fact, the Chosen One has reincarnated many many times over the years, and you will see several versions of the Chosen One in the vision quest.  This also explains why Rey had the vision quest when she touched Anakin's saber because its HER saber that she built when she was Anakin and it brought a rush of memories to handle it again.  Luke realized that Rey was Anakin reincarnated years ago and didn't want to train her because he feared she could be Vader 2.  But now she shows up at the Jedi Temple with Anakin's lightsaber and, given the fall of the New Republic and the state of things, decides he has no choice but to train her and hope for the best.

Someone posted it in the Ep7 thread too I think. Either that or I read that a couple months ago somewhere.  Either way, that's dumb.

ugh

It is worth noting that some, if not many, of the rumors about Ep7 ended up being not true either.

I remember us all similarly fretting about the "light saber falling from the sky" rumor.......

Supposedly the Hayden rumor in EP 8 has been disputed back in February but I don't know how recent the news was above that was posted that might supersede this

Goodbye, Hayden Christensen: ‘Star Wars’ EP 8 Rewritten

Star Wars Rebels:

Season 1 first half: Seems like ok kiddie animated show in a cool Star Wars world. Solid production values, highly episodic.

Season 1 second half: writers seem to have found the characters voices better, stories elongate slightly, really fun season finale.

Season 2 first half: Tone and texture darken across the show.  New solid characters are added, arc story put into place

Season 2 second half: every episode seemed to get better than last.  Good story telling, top of the line visuals and solid all around

Season 2 finale: Easily the best episode of the series.  Feature movie quality stuff.  Story lines so good  I would have loved to see in live action.

With that ending, Season 3 is a no brainer for my family.

Mark Hamill:

One day I read the first 15 minutes of the film absolutely accurately” he said. “I can tell you now that in the original opening shot of 7, the first thing that came into frame was a hand with a lightsaber, a severed hand that enters the atmosphere, and then the hand and bone burns away and goes sticking into the surface of Jakku” he added. “and this alien hand comes in, don’t know if it was Maz but it was an alien hand who takes the light saber way, and then the movie proceeds as you see it.”
