Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (7 Viewers)

Just finished it last night.

Kids really enjoyed it. I thought it was really good for what it is. Very fun and fast moving.  This has tons of rewatchability for kids.

Netflix has done it again. Another solid show.
Watched episodes 3&4 last night. Kids love it, I think it's really good, and the quirks that annoyed me at first have become less annoying after I realized that this is the shtick used throughout, (The defining of certain words, the cluelessness of some characters)

Continuing through Travellers. I think we've got a couple left. Hit that speed bump with the laser episode, but otherwise quite good.

Watched I.T. with Pierce Brosnan yesterday...

The premise is interesting.. IT guy from his company comes to his house to look at his home system, gets access to the system and takes advantage after feeling "slighted".
In this day and age it does make you :oldunsure: about how connected you are...

But man, do they fail with the outcome.. So many parts where it is obvious what is going to happen next and certain characters, including the wife, almost seemed to have been added as an after thought to the story line. It also seemed like there was something missing from the middle of the movie that made the outcome seem "rushed"..

Will give it a 2.5 out of 5 just because the overall premise was intriguing even if the plot and characters were "predictable" .

Fair warning... Pierce has a "17 year old daughter" in the movie( in reality she was around 20 at the time it was filmed) and there is a part that will make you feel like a dirty old man  as you watch it..

Jim Gaffigan Cinco was really good. It starts slow with mostly chuckle jokes but his set picks up steam towards the middle and finishes pretty strong. His TSA bit killed.

Brosnan's career is baffling to me. I think he could have gone with Bond a little longer before surrendering it to Craig. He doesn't have a ton of range, I know, but he's stuck in his roles. He needs to find a director to give him *something* to do other. He could take a few pointers from George Hamilton maybe.

Not getting the love for The OA. People have complained about the ending but I thought it was the only part of the show that wasn't nonsensical garbage.

My five year old daughter and I just finished Trollhunters, which I believe is also a Netflix original. It was fun to finally have a show to watch with her that isn't terribly painful. Recommend for kids approx 5-8 or so.  The ending sets up for a second season.

Just picked up Stranger Things again. Had watched two episodes and then we got busy and didn't watch any for like six months. Last couple of days wife and I have watched several episodes. Have two left. I am not typically into  sci-fi but there is enough unknown that I am in now.

It has a little bit of the "Lost" buzz I had - is this fantasy, sci-fi, government conspiracy, etc.

I will probably end up just as disappointed at the end of the series as I was at the conclusion of Lost.
I think Lost is a good comparison in that it's a somewhat interesting journey that goes nowhere.  When my wife didn't like it after three episodes and asked whether it gets better, I advised her to stop and cut her losses. I enjoyed it.

So I never heard of The Crown. Anybody actually watch it? Cant believe the shows it beat at the Golden Globes. Sounds boring
It is probably quite boring for anyone not at least a little bit interested in the subject matter. It is reportedly the most expensive season of a show ever made by Netflix, and is planned for six seasons - one for each decade of her time on the throne. That's interesting in that there isn't any huge battles or cgi, and not exactly a star cast. It's interesting in that many of the characters are still alive, and that aspect will obviously only increase as the show moves forward. Elizabeth's story is without question one of the most fascinating of our generation.

Just finished season one of "Call My Agent".  Six-episodes, French, made-for-TV.  About a talent agency in Paris, and each episode features some actual French TV/film star or other (I know none of them).  Well-written, fun, with some serious backstories and etc.

It's very good, and seasons 2 and 3 are in the works.  Highly recommend if you like the other stuff I've mentioned here.

Random ETA:  the Jewish ganster in Peaky Blinders, Alfie Solomons, is one of my all-time favorite TV characters.  Love every scene he's in.

She's a tough and resilient old bird, that's for sure.

I agree.  There are a LOT of really bad stand up specials on Netflix and HBO.  In fact sometimes I'm dumbfounded at how bad some of  them are where I'll watch, and stare at the screen and not even crack a smirk let alone not laugh for an entire show.  But Gaffigan hasn't had a failure yet.  Every one of them have several laugh out loud moments.  He's a funny chap for sure.

I have limited free time (my job can be intensely busy with a lot of working weekends), but I have spent most of my free time getting to know my new PS4.  The only thing I have watched on Netflix in the past 2 months is the new Captain America movie, which I liked a lot.  In general, I really like the Marvel movies, but as a whole the Captain America series has been the best.  All 3 of those movies have been excellent IMO.

I'm trying to get into Westworld but 5 episodes in it's just resonating with me, what am I missing? Seems like the same story over and over ever episode. Tell me it gets better.

Dude in the black hat searching for a maze, some hokey farm chick that seems to be the center of the scientists focus, crazy mad old dude who is gumming up the works with some new story line but moving at the speed of a snail. Intermittent guest stories mingled within a muddled story line. Very little to no nuditity, just not holding my attention[/spoilers]

  if you're not grabbed by now- overriding theme of what it means to be human- you might as well jump ship.

there's lots of nudity... surprised you're not seeing it.

I've seen a lot of nekkid robots sitting around, yes. Mostly men

Maybe it's just too ethereal for me. Maybe that's not the right word but just not getting it. There is only one season right now, correct?

all the theories that floated around kind of made this show better than just watching it and not knowing anything IMO

yep- only one season so far.

I get into things like this- and very similar to bladerunner- where the show makes you think about what it means to be human, what morals mean, etc. plus, outside of that, I thought the execution here was pretty great, lot of leads and ideas floated out there in the show, but the writing was such that nothing was unintended... everything pretty much is explained and sussed out. great effects and visuals, also some really solid acting from the ensemble... ed harris, thandie newton and especially jeffrey wright. I'm a big fan of the show.

ok- done.

definitely solid. enjoyed the ride, enjoyed that they do their best to explain some of the time travelly stuff. that last episode... lots going on there to boggle the scrotum/mind. (by lots- I especially mean marcy's boobs).

So is the gripe with Travelers's laser episode (I just watched that one last night)...

about the engineer continuously jumping into everyone's body to get the key turned? As if in the future they new all those guys would be shot to death? I agree that part was super

 . And if the the mission was to save the world, then I think it'd be fine to disregard protocol 3 at that point. Why have a great sniper if they're not trying to shoot anyone?

No #### right? They made it a point to mention the sniper twice and for what? To almost not kill anyone a little closer than the rest of the geriatric crowd? That episode had promise been then fell off the table in the last 5-10 minutes. That said, I really thought it got back on track again by the end of the season and was kinda happy with where it went. Doesn't hurt having new Marcy saunter around with open shirt for about 10 minutes. More of that, less of nasty old chain smoking engineers

plus... if you can jump into one after another body... why not just jump into the leader's body at the start? or if not, make the jump and then move

a little quicker towards the target. slow-rolling the zombie shuffle in the general direction seemed... dumb. that whole scene... dumb. and the entirety of the old folks purpose- they spent a fair bit of time that episode on them, but their only purpose was to make loud noises to frighten the army folk before allowing themselves to get shot? that's the plan? dumb.

Agreed. The unnecessary loss of life due to a self-fulfilling prophecy was goofy.
I'm looking forward to topless Marcy. She reminds me of a poor man's Scarlet Johansen. hubba hubba

good call on the SJ.. it was bugging me who she looked like. now that you said it, seems obvious.

I'll ask again, did anyone watch Sense8?

Thought it was a really good show. Good theme/plot, even some nudity for those of you who require that (if you are not bothered by orgies and lgbt)

Just watched Rezort. Liked it. Pretty good zombie flick.

Been rewatching Raising Hope and My Name is Earl episodes. Just fun shows.

Deep diving on Cheers. Midway through season 6. Holds up.

I'm pretty hooked on The Crown. I didn't think I'd like it, but it feels like a documentary told from inside the family. Good stuff.
