I freaking love the first few episodes of the new The Bear season, 1st Ep especially.
I loved the Bear as much as anyone. This season is a total train wreck imo. Worse than the Lost AND Game of Throne endings, still better than the Hobbit I guess. I think I have watched seven episodes, had to stop. The Michael hiring scene was the only great moment, and the music went from awesome to terrible. Someone needs to get fired imo.
I would fire the Faks.
My wife knows I'm done so she put on the next ep without me. The Faks work at a hospital now? Faks are great, leave them alone.
What? No.

But I do enjoy them more than most internet commenters seem to.

I finished Fallout. I wish the ending was more “complete”, but it was okay I guess. Definitely worse things to watch.
Well it was a cliffhanger for season 2 so that's why it wasn't "complete". I have been wanting to write a more in depth opinion on the show but I'm just very lazy and no one really cares anyways. lol

Like I said earlier it was just "meh" Didn't think it was horrible or anything. In hindsight, it's probably a little of a let down, although I didn't get my hopes up when it was first annouced.

Life with Damian Lewis. Tons of potential that they failed to cash in on. Season 1 was like 8.0 but season 2 is like a 6.0.

I appreciate the earthquake episode and the one with the KISS cover band with Howard from Better Call Saul. Not much else memorable.

They don't work at the hospital

It felt like somebody in the writers room thought the haunting thing was hysterical and they all drank the Kool aid and pushed it waaay past tolerable. (Tbh, even once was too much for me)
That was definitely one of the weaker parts of the season, though Cena's appearance didn't bother me as much as it did for some folks.

I remember thoroughly enjoying this on network when it first aired. Totally agree, a lot of potential that unfortunately went nowhere.

But at least it exposed me to the goddess that is Sarah Shahi .

People really like Your Honor? They're ok with the plot? Come on. Completely ridiculous.
I thought plot was fine.. Kid panics, dads about to do the right thing, realizes if he does the right thing son is dead within hours, dad tries to protect son.

Now, parts of the storyline, including influencing a jury were  .

But still enjoyed it enough to be interested in starting up season 2

just finished watching red penguins. I don't follow hockey so I knew nothing about this but the docy almost felt like it was more about the corruption after the fall of the Soviet Union. It expires soonish on Hulu so if you are interested in watching you should get to it.

Rewatching The Wire after 10 years or so. Just finished the first season. Man does this show hold up well. So good.

I remember S1 not clicking with me immediately. This was the scene that pulled me in

McNulty did it for me. I was shocked to learn years later that he's a Brit. Still shocks me watching him now. Love Kima too. She acts that role so well.

Really enjoyed The Offer. Looking into it more, it seems like the show took a lot of liberties with what really happened and that's always a bit disappointing but doesn't really take away from how good it was. I actually wish there were a few more episodes.

I decided to check out the Oscar presentation since they mentioned Clint handed it out.
I love the dig at Brando that he made
Ruddy is a bit sillier than they made him out to be.

A casualty of the writers strike. They only did like half the original season episodes, rushed the resolution to the big mystery in case they got cancelled, and then most of the writers quit/moved on once the strike was over.

I thought the Cena episode was funny. Those guys are all such morons. But lovable morons. But the show does seem to take itself really seriously at times, while also leaning into dumb **** like the haunting. Strange mix.

Episode 6 was so moving. Emmy clip from Bernthal for sure, a bummer that he’s only in it during flashbacks.

A movie that is coming out is stealing the "you are talking notes...about a criminal enterprise" line. Was in the trailer. Has Matt Damon in it and Casey Affleck. Made me think I could go back and watch The Wire again,

I thought the Ice Chips episode was very moving as well. Incredible acting from Jamie Lee Curtis and Abby Elliott.

Finished Bear S3 last night. Kind of a mess, like it’s trying too hard or something. Still enjoyed it, but I feel like it’s getting into restaurant industry circle jerk territory
I find the parts of the show I enjoy the least are the ones where the restaurant is serving. Odd I know given the setting of the show.
All the yelling about "Hands" "Fire 2 Waygu" and swearing between Sid, Carm and Richie get to be overkill.
I think I'm over it because I've watched enough Gordon Ramsay,Iron Chef shows and seen it before.
The flashback scenes that show Carm learning from and interacting with other chefs, Marcus or Sid agonizing to get a dish/dessert just right or any of the characters interacting with family/friends outside the restaurant are the best scenes.

This show has such an amazing "supporting" cast. Bernthal as the dead brother, Jamie Lee Curtis as the Mom, Robert Townsend as Sid's Dad, Joel McHale/Olivia Colman/Will Coulter as Carmy's Chef friends/mentors and Gillian Jacobs as Richie's ex and Chris Witaske as Sugar's husband Pete -these two (Jacobs and Witaske) were great in the Judd Apatow show "Love".
The cast is just soooo deep.

ETA- I thought the musical choices didn't stand out to me as much in S3 as they did in the first two seasons. But,that Eddie Vedder cover of "Save It For Later" is 🔥 though. The last episode of S3 had stellar musical choices throughout.

I'm through ep5 of the Bear. Almost turned it off. John Cenas character and the whole exchange with tweedle dee and dum.. awful.
Yeahhhhhhhhhhh it hasn’t been great this year. Cena really catapulted us out of the show for a few minutes there that was startling. Really bad casting.

Just started Fargo Season 2 (two episodes in). Good lord, how did I miss this show the first time?

Edit: I've mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. Every single one of us has a nearly infinite backlog of A-/A/A+ programming just sitting out there. There's just no reason to waste time on shows that are merely above-average unless that show scratches some sort of highly-idiosyncratic itch, like Three Body Problem did for me. If you're the type of person who feels obliged to stick with a show once you've started, you're doing yourself a massive disservice. When a show goes south, drop it and move on.

I have liked every season of Fargo. The second season might be the best.

I skirted around it before but now that I've had time to think about it - I would actively discourage people from watching Three Body Problem in any iteration.

I'm almost finished with it and will share thoughts when done. For a preview, it's been on odd watch where I initially didn't like the show, then did like it, then (presently) don't like it.
I bailed toward the end of the second episode. No regerts.
I think we have watched 2 or 3 episodes so far. It has become kind of blah and I haven't wanted to go back even though I kind of want to know what will happen. It's fairly ridiculous and I don't really like the son's character. Not sure if we will go back to it.

I saw a report Richard Seymour is finalizing a deal to become a minority owner/partner with the team joining his boy Brady.
hi gb i know every thread should be a raider thread but i think you got lost!
How the hell did I do that?! Gawd... I am getting old.

I was wondering why you reacted to a post... I was thinking "what the hell, I haven't been in that thread in forever" well.... I guess I was, just didn't know it.

Giving Mad Men another go. Hopefully the third try it will stick. I think it will this time because while I'm still kind of wondering if anything is going to actually happen in the show, I do like the characters so far. 3 episodes in.

I retried this last year after giving up several years ago. Loved it the second time around, and I'll probably give it another run sometime. It's better to think of it as a character study as opposed to a show where lots of stuff happens.

What streaming service is Mad Men on now?

Watched season 3 of Barbecue Showdown - 9/10.

I've said it about the other seasons, and I'll say it again: This show is the perfect background show (especially for us parents with young kids) and the best version of these cook-off shows or really any reality competition show I've ever watched. The food looks amazing and every single person on the show in every season is just genuinely likeable to watch. My wife and I find ourselves rooting for everybody. Given that our normal viewing choices generally concern things like rape and murder, this show is just a joy to watch due to both the food porn and the pure good-hearted personalities.

Where I live, we have a neighborhood "Movie Club" of about 5 couples (10 people)........that was started during Covid..........and we are still together 4 years later.
We choose a Series & # of episodes that everyone will watch at home
And then decide on a date to re-assemble in someone's home in a couple of weeks where we all bring something for the potluck dinner / drinks and we discuss what we watched.

We are currently in the middle of watching S2 of The Bear.

But, one of the things that is on our list to watch next is: MAD MEN <---WHERE CAN WE WATCH THIS ?? (for free hopefully)
I thought that Mad Men was on Netflix or Amazon.....but when i did a quick search last night, it appears that the only place to watch Man Men is to subscribe to AMC+.

EDIT TO ADD:
@IvanKaramazov AMC ?????...................or AMC+ ????????????
