Just Finished Santa Clarita Diet .. It is probably going to be one of those shows where you either enjoy it a lot, or hate it immensely.. I'm not usually one who enjoys "Quirky" humor but I enjoyed the series as a whole.

I found myself :lmao: many times throughout and am looking forward to season 2.

Watched this a long time ago, one thing that always comes to mind when I think of that series is how much the Holder character rubbed me the wrong way at first but after season one - he became one of my all time favorite TV characters.
I enjoyed the first two seasons of this. Has anyone watched seasons 3 and 4 and if so is at as good as the first two?

I had watched the entire series.

It's all very good.  If I remember correctly the final season has some sort of story line that has a murder tied to a young man that comes from a wealthy family, and it takes away from the primary story line from the series.  That and the personal depressing story line of the character Det. Linden....I kept waiting to see her hanging from the rafters.  Outside of that again, it's all very good.

Favorite line of the series thus far (season 2 - episode 6). Jasper to Holder -"Has anyone ever told you you are white?"

Funny!

I was curious how this show be looked at after Netflix picked it up and added 2 seasons.
Those who watched from the beginning were sorely disappointed after being essentially lied up til the conclusion of S1.
The show started off great but after the final episode of S1 there was a huge drop in viewership but those who now are binge watching i'd be interested in hearing if they enjoyed the show as a whole without the constant teases of "find out who killed ...i forgot her name...."

I thought the final 2 seasons were worth the watch.

Best Holder Quotes:

My favorite:  "Ease up, son. Minimum wage ain´t worth fighting the popo."

There are many more listed here - many of which are really great.

Not on Netflix but I'm really enjoying "The Path" on Hulu. It's really well done. Great project for Aaron Paul post-Breaking Bad. Solid cast with Hugh Dancy ("Hannibal") and Michelle Monoghan (who I think is Ellen Pompeo from "Gray's Anatomy" apparently) with a fun plot. I'm almost done with Season 1 and it's done good work to this point.

Just finished season 2. I was into it but there were to many twists and turns for my liking.

Are seasons 3&4 that way?

check out The Wailing...from the Horror Movie thread and courtesy of Scoresman:

The Wailing - Amazon Rental (ETA-now available on Netflix) - This is one to add to your watchlists.  A Korean movie about a village undergoing random deaths and illness after a suspicious Japanese man moves into town.  First off, this movie is in Korean and subtitled, AND it's 2.5 hours long so there's a bit of effort required here.  You will be rewarded for the effort, however.  Paraphrasing from an IMDB review that put it best, "by slowly unveiling the real nature of certain characters, the last 45 minutes of the movie will change your perspective on the whole thing. Every few minutes you will switch sides when trying to determine whom to trust and only when the big reveal comes do you realize how detailed the setup to get there was.".  This movie will stick with you, having you asking lots of questions about the characters and their motivations.  The characters are portrayed well, especially the dad and his daughter.  I put this on my best of 2016 list.
Put something in spoilers explaining it.  Just watched and was like whatever.  Long and boring... but it started pretty good.  End was zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Yeah, I gave it a shot a pretty much agree.  Keystone cops for the first half of the movie then it got "serious" and then intentionally misleading and then a cluster#### of an ending.  Not worth the 2.5 hours imo.

I  looked up an explanation and I couldn't even read through that it was so boring.  I like ambiguity in a film and stuff you need to interpret for yourself and non linearity.  IDK, maybe just all asian people look alike to me so it's harder to follow.

I don't remember the specifics but somewhere along the way, the story line turns toward street kids and I thought that was really good.  No doubt the series has ups and downs, but in my opinion, it's worth sitting through a relatively short series to get to the final.

I watched the first episode and havent gone back. I should?

Talk to me about The 100. Watched first episode based on friends recommendation, need some feedback on whether to pursue or walk away. I'm interested but at the same time can see this becoming cheesy pretty quick. All the beautiful people are already kinda turning me off but I can get past it ;)

Terribly cheesy, but also awesome and violent and full of hot ladies.  What's not to like?  I have to admit that the new season does not hold my attention when I watch at home. But it was great when I burned through all of the available episodes during my train commute over a few weeks.

My 14 year old daughter loves it, so there's that.

Les Revenants
Band of Brothers
--------------------
("New Golden Age of TV" stuff)
Call My Agent
Broadchurch
Stranger Things
Happy Valley
---------------------
(low end of "good TV")
The Fall
Peaky Blinders
--------------------
(watchable, but can't recommend)
Poldark
--------------------
(didn't care for it)
Jessica Jones

Updated to include Band of Brothers (watched previously), downgrade of Peaky Blinders (last season was close to shark jumping territory), and add Call My Agent (very good) and Jessica Jones (which had some good stretches but was pretty meh overall IMO).

On to The Americans, The Crown or Wolf Hall I think.

Watched all of the latest Jim Gaffigan stand up a while ago. I think I only laughed a few times. Made it through about 30 minutes of the new Bill Burr special and slightly chuckled once. I've really enjoyed previous acts by both of them, but thought these latest Netflix exclusive performances were pretty bad.

I always felt the show was a combination of pretentious garbage and grief porn.

The "mystery" seemed like something they made up as they went along and occasionally pulled things out of their ### to make the plot work, moving from one preposterous set piece to the next...often sacrificing logic and characterization to induce forced melodrama...

I only caught about half of the Crown... Enough to think it's right up there with The Returned.

I like the Americans a lot too, but a tier below imo.

Kinda how I'm feeling about the show, 2 episodes in and I get the feel it's not focused at an overweight, out of shape 50 something year old
I tapped out at the 2nd or maybe early in the 3rd episode.  Floppo loved it, just sayin.
Loved it? I LOVE it.

meh. I'm a sucker for post-apoc stuff and enjoy it for what it is- tip-top tv this ain't. definitely a guilty pleasure with just enough (if I squint) of BSG in it to turn my crank.

neil vermeil, otoh... he LOVES it.

Finally got around to watching "The OA" and really enjoyed it.. Loved how they built the backstory line, intertwined with current day...

Guessing those that had an issue with the Finale was due to how much it correlated to a past event( aka Colorado)??

Still a lot of question left on Hap, Homer, etc... so looking forward to Season 2..

Watched Polanski's "Ghost Writer" with Ewan MacGregor, Pierce Bronson and Olivia Williams. Political thriller that feels a lot like an homage to Hitchcock.

Also a few episodes into "Manhattan" which is a interesting retelling of the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos. It's surprisingly good tv. Not perfect but for a fan of the history it's fairly gripping.

I really enjoyed this series. From what I read they took some liberties with the facts. I didn't know much about the story to begin with so that didn't lessen my enjoyment

Well, my kids discovered Ultimate Beastmaster ("Am Ninja Warrior ON STEROIDS!!") over the weekend, so I guess I've got that in my routine the next couple weeks. Its not something I'd spend my own time on, but is fun when the kids are into it.

Terrace House. It's like a japanese "Real World" but with 6 houseguests that are relatively mellow and respectful. It's an oddly fun and therapeutic show with the best segments coming from a commentary panel that discuss the show. It's a show within the show.

I even learned a few Japanese phrases... after like 33 episodes  :bag:

have had this on my watch list for several years but never got around to watching it...need to make time to finally see it

every japanese show has a commentary panel... it's uncanny.

Where is that at?  I just see NYC and Aloha state on Netflix?

I started watching "The Road" on Netflix.  It was an amazing book by Cormac McCarthy  so I had to watch it.  I'm only half way through it and I am very pleased with what I have seen so far.  Father and Son navigating starvation/survival about a decade after the Apocalypse.

This book is very dear to me.

Considering how great the book is, I think this is one of those rare times where the film adaptation was true to the book.
