Just buzzed through "The Boys" the last couple of days.  I'm not a superhero show guy but I enjoyed it.

Great idea of humanizing super heroes with all the terrible traits many people would have in those circumstances.

And though not great, you didn't hate the protagonists.

3 episodes into the second season of Dark.  I like to pretend I know what's going on.
I've been planning to start Season 2.  But damned if I can remember the details from Season One.  And the Season One recap videos I've been able to find have only left me more confused.

Do y'all watch this subtitled or dubbed? I generally prefer subtitles on foreign shows because dubbed looks nutty. But then I'm always on my computer doing something while watching a show. So that's prevented me from watching this (or some other) foreign shows.

People on the internet are scary sometimes.  I looked at a couple of 1 star reviews for The Boys, and ….

No.
Sorry.
Any show that has full frontal male nudity but only topless "nudity" for females deserves to have every participant lined up against a wall and shot. Disgusting.
I missed the male full frontal. Was there a superhero schlong in there?  I did see quite a few dude's butt cheeks ...

It’s dark, irreverent, obscene and hyper-violent. That said, I find it curiously entertaining and am enjoying it quite a bit. And frankly, if superheroes did actually exist, I feel like reality would be closer to The Boys than to The Avengers.
Same here.  I binged through it like any other summer guilty pleasure.  Its not The Wire or anything near that level, but the commitment is pretty minimal and it was fun.

Watched the first 2 seasons (parts) of Money Heist.  The english voice dubbing is a little distracting, but it starts well enough.  The problem is that it drags on and on and on and on.  The first 2 season could have easily been cut down to 1.  A lot of filler to stretch it out.  It was a chore getting through the first 2 seasons and I didn't bother pausing if I had to get up to do something else.  All for a corny obvious ending.  I won't continue with season 3.

I just finished S1. It was good fun, moving along for me until the last two episodes maybe. They were terrible! The writing was just piss-poor. I'm have a high opinion of Cillian Murphy as an actor but he cannot elevate that kind of tripe.
Yeah I don't know what to say about this except that this show at its worst is a lot better than tripe.

my lady and i just finished the widow with kate beckinsale which i pronounce beck in sal lay because that gives it a little flair anyhow my lady and i liked it just swell take that to the bank brochachos

is anybody watching HBO's years and years?

sci-fi political satire kinda sorta. a bit of black mirror with a bit of family drama ala this is us with lots of just a touch in the future taking current global socio-politics to extremes.

it's interesting, depressing, worthwhile, frustrating all at the same time.
We wrapped it up...

I think it's worthwhile, although a bit preachy in that much of it's distopia is clearly based on cartoony versions of current events politicians and politics. Some of the sci fi is more interesting tbh, especially seen through the Brittany character ("trans" here isn't what you think).

I was just saying the same thing! Started season two and was immediately confused because I don’t think I remember what happened in season one (even though I really really liked season one). Hoping Wikipedia episode recaps will help.

those final two episodes of S1 were god awful. it wasn't on par with S2 of Handmaids Tale, which was enough to make me stop watching entirely, but there's not a lot of trust going forward. there's a lot to like about the series but i'm becoming wary.

I watched this. It was entertaining. I mean, any show with Kate Beckinsale in it is worth watching unless its just terrible. This was well above the terrible line.

Top Boy...English urban drug series  (a la the Wire), accents are a tad thick but not totally impenetrable.

Typewriter...Indian series about a family who moves into a house with a dubious past. Part ghost story, part Stranger Things. Worth a watch for sure.

Dark...started off alright but now knee-deep into season 1, I have no clue what is going on (for the most part) but might still watch season 2 (I have no reason why).

new season of Comedians in Cars...admittedly haven't watch all of the season thus far, have done my usual seasonal cherry picking (Murphy, Seth Rogan, Foxx, Martin Short) and have generally liked what I have seen from this durable franchise.

Point Blank...decent entry into the good guys/bad guys crime canon, starts Anthony Mackie and Marcia Gay Harden. Decent soundtrack and bonus points for the director including a poster of the movie, Blow Out in the movie gangsters house.

Money Heist...not sure how they could stretch this into a season 3 but here they are.  You need to watch the previous two seasons otherwise you will have no idea who is who. Still a decent watch but if you don't watch season 3, I wouldn't blame you.

When They See Us...hyped re-telling of the Central Park Five case.  I watched it all but could not watch more than one episode every few days since each episode left me fuming.

I still haven't forced myself to watch the final episode yet, but it feels like required viewing. The Ken Burns documentary is on Prime as a great companion piece.

Agreed.  It took us several weeks to watch them all.  Finished last night.  Just as angry at the end as I was in the beginning.

Amazon Prime has Billions season 1 available now for a limited time. I think it’s only been available on Showtime until now.  Ima try to binge it.

Trollhunters. For kids but worth watching. The final episode is amazing.

just started 3Below the second part of the Tales of Arcadia trilogy. Lots of characters from Trollhunter, but worth it for Nick Offerman.  :lmao: :lmao:
Finished 3Below. Very good animated series. Kinda of a kids show but Nick Offerman kills it. Next up is Wizards, which should premier sometime this year

Did you guys watch the Oprah follow up? There's no happy ending.

Thanks - I will add this to my queue.  The movie is one of my faves, but I just never gave it a shot - mostly because I thought it would be a bad knock off and it seemed like the few things I tried on SyFy was cheesy as hell so I wrote off the channel.   The Expanse changed my mind a bit on the channel, so I will give this a go.
I thought it got repetitive over the seasons but the start (maybe S2 too) was pretty good.

Looking forward to Watchmen.....

I didn't realize The Boys was an actual comic series. I love the girl who plays Starlite. She was in a few episodes of Jessica Jones.

I barely made it through episode 1 of this series.  Gave it the benefit of the doubt because it has its own thread here started by the venerable Mr. Tremblay, but had to tap out about 15 minutes into episode 2.  Cliched, stupid writing.

just wrapped it up. had the same response (especially after mistakenly thinking it was supposed to be a Tick/Mystery Men type of superhero satire/comedy) and yes- it's fun and consistent. really solid summer show.
The actor who plays Homelander is fantastic. Dominates every scene he's in.
