Didn't hold back about the Oscar incident.

No, he didn't. He gave Will Smith a verbal beatdown.

Honestly though, considering he waited over one year to comment on the incident, I wish he did something more constructive than basically call Will Smith a ***** and claim he has selective outrage. Instead, with his intro and his build up to his finale where, again, he just bashes Will Smith but doesn't add anything thought-provoking, it seemed more like high school revenge than anything that is actually thought-provoking.

Overall I found the special to be good but not great.

It's funny. He pretty much can say whatever the **** he wants about Will and Jada now and he knows there will be zero consequences.

All setting up for the mother of all pay-per-view fights.

I watched some older streaming movies.

Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels (Prime): I think this is the third time I've seen this movie. Luckily, I forget everything each time. It's funny to see Jason Statham just looking like any other person in the movie. It's a good movie, and the final freeze frame is great. This was the first Guy Ritchie movie I saw, and it was so unlike other movies - maybe British Tarentino, but still pretty eye opening.

The Hunt (most free services, I watched on Vudu): Danish movie with Mads Mikkelson from 2012 that is highly rated. It was a good movie. It's funny - the rest of Mikkelson's career had me expecting him to go Taken on people in the movie, which really affected how I watched it. The final scene is really powerful. Worth the subtitles.

Oh, and I tried watching Doomsday (Tubi). A virus apocalypse movie, but not a zombie movie. It wasn't any good. I gave up about 40 minutes in - from some quick googling, it looks like it turns into Mad Max after I stopped, and I'm fine with stopping there.

I started watching After Life this week and it has been enjoyable. Reminds me a bit of the old show Louie with a hint of Ted Lasso. At 30 min/ep and 6 ep/season it flies by, I will start season 3 tonight. Does anyone know if it was renewed for season 4 or is it finished?

Anyone else give Cunk on Earth a try (Netflix) Not horrible. Kind of like an Ali G Show where she acts stupid interviewing smart people. Going through the history of the world it seems. I only saw the first episode. 30 minute episodes. I liked her in After Life and she's ok here. Maybe it'll get better.

I get what they're trying to do, but you have hit exactly the right note for this style of humor to work. Nathan Fielder hits that note. This show does not -- it tries a little too hard for my tastes.

I haven't seen anything with Nathan Fielder, but I liked Cunk on Earth a lot. I laughed out loud once or twice per episode, and I almost never laugh out loud while watching stuff. (I also thought to myself, a few times per episode, "That missed: it was trying too hard." But I'll take the misses given the hits.)

I’m quite certain you would like Nathan Fielder’s The Rehearsal from HBO.

I'm about to finish watching The Wire for the fifth time.

100/10. Greatest show ever. Gets better every watch. If you've never seen it get out of your Platonic cave.

We've been having this on lately, too.

S1 E12 has to be top 5 of the entire series imo. Wallace gettin got, Daniels sticking to Burrell...TWICE, taking Avon downtown and McNutty's "catch you later." to String. .."WHERE'S WALALCE STRING!?!

BTW, that Wallace scene still gets me. I usually try to find something to do now when it comes on.

1923 is the worst show I’ve seen since….Yellowstone. I suspect there’s a trend there. I won’t be back for season 2.

Somehow 1883 was amazing but the other shows that guy makes are horrid imo.

I haven't watched any of the spinoffs, but I completely agree with you about Yellowstone. I can't believe we lasted 4 episodes. Hard to enjoy a series when you are rooting against the protagonist.

I made it a little further than you but not much. I can appreciate needing suspension of disbelief but this show requires one to just abandon disbelief altogether.

Carriers (Tubi): apocalyptic plague, but not zombies. This just rehashed the stuff we’ve seen in all of these movies without really adding anything novel. It just felt like an early TWD episode. Chris Pine plays a hothead jerk in every movie. At least they didn’t force a love story in there.

The Last of Us (HBO) - Wife couldn't handle the initial child death, so I've enjoyed the first three episodes by myself. Really feels like The Walking Dead but I really enjoyed the first couple of seasons the TWD so I'm enjoying this. No rating yet.

Now that we're in season 4 I can say REALLY good show. Since I liked all of Westworld it figures I should like this one - Jonathan Nolan and man vs machine theme and all.

I had enough after two seasons. Won’t even bother with season 3 to be honest. But it was fun.

I feel curmudgeonly due to my opinion on Lasso because its so universally beloved, and I loved Season 1, but I couldn't make it even halfway through season 2 and have no intention of picking it back up. I hated season 2 right from the start - seemed like they doubled-down on the silly stupid stuff and dropped the only interesting aspects of the show for me.

The Flight MH370 doc on Netflix was pretty good but reading up on it afterwards shows that they were giving too much credence to conspiracy theorists and unfounded rumors and accusations. Still, a crazy story and mystery.

Does anyone remember a plane that they were trying to pull out of the water and the cable snapped and they abandoned the recovery attempt? My wife thought it was going to be this one but it seems not.

Don't remember that at all. We'll probably watch MH370 but I have kept up on 20/20 updates and the likes, and it seems pretty conclusive the pilot committed mass sui/homicide by turning into the South Indian Ocean. No explanation, heartbreaking, but not that questionable.

ETA: the flight disappeared 9 years and 10 days ago today my time. I was working a conference/convention and bored and checking twitter that same weekend when I saw the story. It seemed crazy. Stayed with it all that day and beyond. Was at the same event 10 days ago and reminded of it. Crazy stuff.

I wish I had waited for the whole season to be available before starting it so I could binge it, But....whatever. It's a great show!

Just started this and agreed is good so far. Am enjoying all the characters.

Started watching "The Last Movie Stars" the Ethan Hawke directed docu-series about Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Their relationship is seen as the gold standard for a Hollywood marriage,so I was surprised to learn that Newman was a married father of 3 when they first met. Newman left his young family to be with Woodward.

Watching Mare on HBO, I just commented to the wife that I can't think of a better actress than Winslet. Her range and willingness to go places most won't (I'm loving her portrayal of a deeply flawed and real Mare) put her out front of wright...who I also love.

I put her up there with the sharp objects actress, I would google but I’m hammered.

Amy Adams is the Sharp Objects actress, and she was excellent in that series. The ending floored me.

Amy Adams was also very good in the underrated move American Hustle, as was Gabriel Byrne. Good supporting performances of Carrie Coon, Bradley Cooper, and others. Great movie, worth watching more than once to pick up on things you missed the first time.

Sharp Objects is very good, I plan to watch it again when I want to get slowly creeped out.

Definitely underrated. Got snubbed at the Oscars, nominated for 10 awards and didn’t win a single one, a rare list of films like that.
