The description of Fords movie portrayal sounds like all of his portrayals, tbh.
If you haven't seen Presumed Innocent the movie I would highly recommend doing so. It was a really good movie, and the series really won't ruin anything for you. They are different enough

I really liked both, but the casting was so good in the original movie...it was so well done.

Orginal Carolyn Polhemus was a smokeshow.

Totally agree. Not really a weak link at all. It is one of my all time favorite movies.

It's why the series was a bit difficult to watch at times for me. The character portrayals just weren't as good comparatively speaking and it was hard for me to separate them. It makes it hard for me to give the series a fair shake to some degree.

Totally makes sense I harbored some of those issues as well. The original to me is a timeless classic that isn't celebrated as such.

Watched The Adam Project. It had been in my queue for quite awhile and finally decided to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised. Typical Ryan Reynolds smart assery and an interesting take on time travel.

Anyone else here watch Evil? It’s on Paramount Plus. I just started the 2nd season and it’s interesting and occasionally funny imo.
Just starting this. First episode had a scene which made my wife jump and scream so she's totally in. :D

We just heard about and started "Portrait Artist of the Year" show out of the UK on... Prime?

I used to love the cooking shows, but realized I was going off of presentation and relying on the judges comments since I couldn't taste the thing. This is like that- goes deep enough into process and critical analysis of the work, but then ultimately it's a purely visual medium.. so the end result is what it is.

9 artists are selected to do a portrait of one of 3 British celebs (3x groups of 3) live in 4 hours. We're hooked.

I think I saw this on one of the free streamers, maybe TUBI? There's also "Landscape Artist of the Year", tho I tended to prefer "Portrait". It was one of the shows we used to leave running all the time during the pandemic lockdowns.

Just a thank you for this thread. Few weeks ago Zow commented on "The Wire", which is pretty old(2002 maybe). Anyway wife & I watched all 5 seasons. Very good series. Highly entertained.
Kudos!!
First time? Awesome either way... One of my, and manys, top 5 goats

Eta... There was a miniseries that came first with some of the same characters iirc... the Corner. Equally fantastic.

We've been watching The Wire too. 3rd time for me, first for the wife. Still catching a few little details on 3rd view. We don't binge, so it's usually only 1 episode a week, so are only on the 4th ep of S1. Really looking forward to S4, which is still the best season of TV ever, imo.

What happened to The Bear?

It has taken me 2 weeks to get through the first 4 episodes of season 3.

I don't think I've seen a show crash and burn this hard since Dexter.

Is it even worth finishing?
No. I commented on this previously & think I was spot on.
We just watched the one with John Cena and it was easily the worst of the entire show. So bad. 5 minutes to go and they bring him in to help mopping? And then they decide to smoke too? And then they hang around acting stupid during an important photo session?
We'll probably make it to the end but it's a slog.

Episodes 6 and 8 were the standouts -- and they are also the episodes with the least connection to the main storylines.

Ever watch a series that when you watched it the 2nd time it was waaaaay better. Just finished watching, Netflix, The Witcher for the 2nd time. First time I jammed through it and thought meh. Kinda lost interest midway. This second time, maybe I paid attention more, but it was really good. Worth a watch for those who haven't seen it.

I feel like the woman from Airplane when she said "I speak jive"

When Avon puts a hit on Omar and says "and make it 6 if I get to holla at him before he get got" I had to explain to my wife that he said "Make it 6 thousand dollars if he gets the chance to speak with him before they kill him"

Can't wait until Snoop shows up! lol

That's what I'm holding on for.

I liked both of those episodes, and there are things I liked and didn't like about Ep. 10 (the finale). I think Ep. 10 would have made a better penultimate episode vs being the season finale.
I mainly feel that way due to most (if not all) of the story arcs being left uresolved.

In regards to your spoiler, I believe they plan on releasing the next season relatively soon so that concern, which I would also share, hopefully won't be that annoying.

I really enjoyed the show from the start, but season 3 was a big ol' nothing. I mostly just finished watching it for Richie.

Mad Men. The first time I watched it, I went in completely blind. When it turned out that Don Draper was really **** Whitman, it felt like a bait and switch and I could never really get back into the story. I gave up after about two seasons or so.

Came back to it last year and was blown away by how good it was. Sometimes it's good to come in with preconceived expectations when that helps me enjoy the show on its own terms.

I'm going through my first run of Mad Men, and while I feel it starts out so slow, I'm now at the point (end of Season 2) where I love it. I think the Penis Whitman stuff might be the best part of it. Although Mozart being played by pants zipper has also been an unexpected highlight so far.

I should probably re-watch The Witcher as I more or less enjoyed it the first time but was pretty lost in regards to the plot. Had no clue about who was plotting against who except no one really seems to like the elves. Stupid gummies.

I will be awaiting to see if Season 4 makes us reevaluate Season 3.

Not sure if it was ever discussed last year but finally got around to watching Daisy Jones and the Six. Really enjoying it. Has an Almost Famous vibe if that sort of storytelling is your jam.

Prison Break just dropped on Netflix. Never seen one episode. Game on. I spent nearly a decade working for the Bureau of Prisons so I'm not the normal guy watching a prison show. It's gonna go really good or won't make it past a few episodes. Fingers crossed it's good. Pray for me. Ha ha

:lmao: I'll be very interested to hear your critique. We watched it when it came out and were hooked. Then my daughter discovered it a few years ago and binged it in like 2 weeks.

I won't spoil it, check back in.

Really enjoyed Presumed Innocent
3 episodes in and enjoying it as well. Wish I didn't know the original story because I can't help but foresee the same ending. Regardless, I don't remember the original all that well and it's a very solid show. My only negative is how Nico delivers his lines but since he's not a major part of the story I can ignore it for the most part.
Yeah this is where I'm at though we are on episode 5 or 6. I'm super jealous of my wife while watching it because she doesn't know the story whereas I read both the book and watched the original movie with Ford.

I don't think I'm spoiling anything by noting that the show has done a pretty nice job and gently and subtly introducing other suspects (the guy in prison, the guy whose DNA was at the original crime scene, the son on his bike, etc.) better than the movie did.
agree the wrinkles have been good. they really had to given the extra run time.
For those that have watched the movie they have changed the ending somewhat so it wasn't the same. I kept waiting for the same beats and it didn't get there and didn't some different things. I also didn't like the way they pivoted. The movie was much, much better IMO. I also couldn't quite buy Jake as Rusty. Harrison Ford did a much better job. Jake just seemed forced and really wasn't all that believable to me. Overall I liked the series in general but it wasn't nearly as good as the movie.
Binged the final 3 episodes last night. Was very happy with it. I thought the acting was well above par, even the kids. Ruth Negga was superb, especially in the final episode. Rusty wasn't the kind of character you root for, tho I can't recall how Ford played him in the original. but I don't think he was as much of a douche.

On one hand I appreciated that they altered the ending somewhat, but on the other hand, I don't think it was particularly believable to have this person be the killer. Can't really see how someone this age could regroup as fast as she did and not once crack during the long trial. I mean she was perfectly normal the very next day. (I believe it was the next day when they heard the news). Of course Rusty also did a good job of pretending to not have any idea what happened, but as an adult I could see that a bit more likely
I’m very good at pretending to not have any idea what happened, and I like to think people would root for me.

New Competitive Reality Show Alert: The US version of "The Traitors" comes to Peacock on 1/12.

If you're a fan of social deduction games, like Among Us, this is basically The Mole crossed with good ol' Werewolf. 20 players work together to build a prize fund by completing challenges. At the end of the season, the players win the accumulated money. However, among the group are three "Traitors", who eliminate one player (among "The Faithful", aka 'the village') each night. The remaining players all meet to also vote out one player from their group each day, hoping to eliminate a traitor in doing so. If they can, and no traitors remain at the end of the season, the remaining Faithful players split the prize. However, if any Traitors survive to the end, they win all the money for themselves.

I've been watching the British version, which came out last month and became one of the higher-rated shows on the BBC last year. I believe there are also Australian and Dutch versions floating around out there.

What I've seen of the British version is OK, completely over the top with theming, and the music is totally out of pocket. The show doesn't really make clear the role of the Traitors in the normal daylight competitive-task portion of the show, as this isn't like the Mole where sabotage is a goal. Instead, what's not really said is that the players are using the tasks as team-building trust exercises which can give them a better read on their fellow competitors.

Haven't seen the US version, but the trailer just dropped today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3rqVPKOKfQ. It appears the US version uses the same locations, sets, tasks and challenges as the UK version. Just a different host. In the UK version, you learn who the Traitors are at the start, it's not kept secret from the audience. Assuming the same in the US version.

Among the cast are a variety of names familiar to US reality TV viewers:

• Arie Luyendyk Jr. (Bachelor/Bachelorette)
• Brandi Glanville (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills)
• Cirie Fields (Survivor)
• Cody Calafiore (Big Brother)
• Kate Chastain (Below Deck)
• Kyle Cooke (Summer House)
• Rachel Reilly (Big Brother)
• Reza Farahan (Shahs of Sunset)
• Ryan Lochte (Olympian)
• Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick (Survivor)
I binged both seasons of the US version and loved them. The description above is pretty accurate. The endgames of both seasons were fascinating. It's clear that there are really two different games going on during the process, and some contestants have figured this out while others haven't (or don't want to).
I've been watching Traitors seasons from other countries and have gotten hooked. The US has a much different vibe from the others because the others have no parallels to Housewives types. Most UK, Australia and New Zealand seasons are all "regular people," and the ones that have "celebrities" don't have anyone like the Housewives/Bravoverse characters.

The currently airing second season of Traitors New Zealand may be my favorite yet. Its final two episodes air next week, hope they stick the landing.

Big fan of US season 2, and waiting for NZ to finish this week before binging them all in a couple of days. Since the episodes just seem to end on weird cliffhangers all the time I tend to just plow through a bunch in a row.

I *think* a third US season is currently filming. Not sure when that or any other English-language version will be out next.

One of my favorite running gags across all the early seasons of each version I've seen is, when casting "regular people" they always seem to cast a psychic.

Loved the UK season 2 where they had the secret mom-son pair. That was a fun season.

US season 3 has finished filming and will air on Peacock starting in January. UK season 3 filmed just after US3 and may be wrapped up as well by this point.

I believe the next English-speaking season to come out is Canada season 2 in the fall. I have not seen Canada 1 yet but hope to get to that one next.

Aus 1, NZ 1 and NZ 2 all had psychics. No idea why Oceania's editions keep going to that well, but it's usually been entertaining.

The first two UK seasons each had secret pairs -- boyfriend/girlfriend and mother/son. I'm sure the cast of UK3 will be obsessed with trying to figure out who their secret pair is -- it would be hilarious if there wasn't one.

I've enjoyed every season I've seen except the second half of Aus 2 -- though the last 10 minutes of its finale were great.

The meta that Sandra said out loud in US season 2, especially in the scene with the pool balls, does come up in NZ 2. There's even a parallel to the Peter Pals.

I avoided your spoiler but the bold was the biggest difference I noticed between the show and the movie. Ford was much more empathetic and contrite for his actions in the movie, which made him a much more sympathetic and almost likeable character overall. Perhaps that's just natural Ford but I recall viewing him as a true protagonist and borderline tragic figure in the movie where JG portrayed the character in an unlikeable way (at least through the 7 episodes I've viewed).
Great description of the difference. Ford was much more likeable and it was perfect for the way the movie played out. I just didn't like the way JG portrayed Rusty but much of that could be because I liked the movie so much. Without the movie I am not sure how I would have received JG's portrayal.
the parts were written very differently.
And it was important for the show to keep you wondering if Rusty did or didn't do it, if he was or wasn't capable of doing such a thing. Otherwise it's 8 episodes of looking at everybody else and knowing he's either innocent or not. And I thought the show did a great job keeping me guessing until the end.

The description of Fords movie portrayal sounds like all of his portrayals, tbh.

The change from the movie certainly makes the view of the character different, it may have been a choice given the ending.

I'm interested to see if David E Kelley can come up with something interesting for season two. Perhaps unburdened from the plot of the book and having to avoid what many people know already, a truly original story could make the framework interesting.
