Never compare to Spartacus. That show was magnificent from episode 1. Ha ha

I just finished season 3 last night and have yet to do season 4 but I've spoiled myself and I know how the actual history plays out which I assume is how s4 will end. I thought the first 2 seasons were great but I felt like season 3 wasn't as good. I felt like it was more melodramatic than the first 2 seasons or maybe it just seemed that way since I did not care one iota about Lucretia's storyline.

let her finally be dead

there were some minor nitpicky reasons as well.

The last 2-3 episodes were good, and I especially liked episode 9.

On February 9, 2023, Starz announced that they were developing a revival and sequel series to Spartacus, with DeKnight returning to write for the series.[52] On November 9, 2023, Starz greenlit a 10-episode sequel series titled Spartacus: House of Ashur. DeKnight returning to serve as showrunner and executive producer and Nick E. Tarabay to reprise the role of the titular character.[53][54] In July 2024, Graham McTavish, Tenika Davis, Ivana Baquero, Jamaica Vaughan, Jordi Webber, Claudia Black, India Shaw-Smith and Leigh Gill added to the cast.[55]
I didn't have a clue there was going to be a new series. I really enjoyed the original and Ashur was a great character so will be all over this one when it comes out.

Senna on Netflix is a six part biopic of the Brazilian Formula 1 champion. It's not as good as the 2010 documentary (also on Netflix) but it's certainly watchable. For those bothered by subtitles, I'd say it's probably 60% in Portuguese/40% English--the dubbed version is up to Netflix' usual high standards and features the actors' voices.

The hagiographic portrayal of St. Ayrton is a little much at times but Brazilian actor Gabriel Leone's performance is very believable. It covers the usual plot points: his youth and early career, his championships and his feuds with the FIA and Alain Prost. His personal relationships aren't shown with much depth. I could have done with less from the fictional characters--the little Brazilian kid inspired by Senna is pure cliche and the woman journalist is a recurring plot device who always pops up to provide exposition. The racing action is done very well (albeit repetitiously) through a combination of CGI and archival footage.

The final episode was more than a little melodramatic but was still quite moving for me. It really took me back 30 years to that dark weekend in Imola.

Might belong in the Shark Pool but my boys and I started Hard Knocks last night and it's.....fine. They really enjoy anything football related and NFL films just does a phenomenal job capturing action on the grid iron.

From a trainwreck perspective, the Giants offseason Hard Knocks was entertaining - especially the Barkley stuff.

A Man on the Inside is worth a watch on Netflix. Ted Danson is a retired professor hired by a PI to investigate some Retirement Home shenanigans. Some good laughs.

There are a few moments where they lean on the "old guy out of touch" crutch (and some times where it seems like this 8 episode series could have been an even better 6 episode series), but I was entertained more often than not. If you dig Only Murders in the Building, you'll probably like this.

I got a watch-suggestion on Thanksgiving for Supernatural. I was told that there would be times during the first two seasons that I would want to bail, but to give it a full 3 seasons before deciding one way or the other. I'm in the middle of season 2, and he wasn't kidding, this is a bit of a slog. It's got 15 seasons, so I'm half-way hoping season 3 flops for me otherwise I've got a lot of binging ahead of me.

Yeah, I watched a little of it this summer. That Barkley stuff was bananas. I can't believe the GM is still there.

Say Nothing is easily the best show I've seen this year. Outstanding.
i really liked it too. not a story that i was very familiar with.

Yeah, this is the next one I want to start. Hearing nothing but positive things from folks I respect.
I'm glad you're taking my recommendation anyway. :p

It was your rec that got me to consider this. Then my favorite history professor recommended it and, well.....it's 1st up on the cue (queue?). Well, after Yacht Rock Doc on HBO. Then it's Say Nothing.

You nailed it similar to me. First two seasons were great. First season was epic. Season 3? Meh. Season 4? Even more meh for me.
Just remember that Season 2 was actually Season 1 (and vice versa) in the release order. Sometimes gotta explain which one talks about.

Good point. To those who haven't watched Gods of the Arena, which was released next after season 1, starts at a period before season 1. I always wondered if that shift happened because Andy died in real life. Andy was the actor who played Spartacus in season 1. I always felt like they recognized they had a hit and kinda adjusted to other characters to keep it going. Worked out well cause Gannicus was awesome in Gods of the Arena. I might have to rewatch this.

Decent finale to the Summit. If I were in any of the winner’s shoes, I’d definitely share the prize.
Agreed, good finale.

Sucks to cut out Jeannie on the last helicopter crossing of the chasm. Was hoping the eldest made it.
Punkin, Therron, and Nick get $250k each.
Interesting campfire roundtable to defend their 'game'.
The lost $250k was also brought back to give to a person by the jury. Votes 6N-5P-2T to Nick to bump up to $500k.

Not as interesting as some reality shows, but I'd watch another season.

On Tubi, where I am watching this at, they have the prequel listed as season 2. At first ,I thought it was pretty strange to do season 1 and then the prequel but I guess it was necessary since they made
Melitta's and Gannicus affair.

I think it was planned or they at least planned to do a prequel but maybe Andy's death had them change plans. Since there was a real life Gannicus durring the Third Servile War I think they always intended to introduce him.

Nick should give the $250k to Jeannie. Or split it among the people who voted for him. It’s effectively found money anyway.

Watched it during its initial run. I enjoyed it once they got a good arc going in season 3 onward. It has some camp to it. I think its drama gets stale, but the camp keeps it going.

Word from around that time was that they had season 2 set to go but had to do a hard left turn into a prequel because of the main actor's death.

Enjoyed the show and a good finale. We were thinking the same thing but I doubt it would happen. I didn't really like the last boot. It's not like they failed at something to deserve it.
I guess you can't do another season of it since the end part is now known

I think I like Shrinking more than Ted Lasso.. but for similar reasons. And I liked Lasso.
Enjoying it, but dial down Christa Miller please…a lot
She's great in this. Especially with D man as her foil.

Meh, plastic face and over the top with so many things it becomes a bore to me.

“Can we pay her to **** our son?” That’s more on the writers, but I’m taking it out in her
I hear ya. they're all pretty over the top, tbh. part of the charm. the writing is fantastic though... they all get zingers every episode.

Isn't she the show creator's wife? He probably wants less screen time for her too but that's an awkward conversation.

Yes she is.

Makes sense why they put up with the sub par acting now

Struggle for Life
(Kampen for Tilverelsen)

Norwegian drama/comedy I guess, about a man from Poland who goes to Norway to try to find his real father. That's the whole plot; the series is about all the twists and turns along the way as he meets more Norwegian people. To me, that sounds like a situation comedy I wouldn't like, but it got excellent reviews somewhere so I watched it. I enjoyed it a great deal, it's one of the best shows I've seen in a year or 2. Almost every episode has scenes that are just awkward, not in a bad way or funny way, but a human way. I looked again tonight and it's available on NRK TV, which I found out you can sign up for with an email address, first name, password, and confirmation email. No fee. I'm signed up now and haven't figured out subtitles work there yet, if at all.

Just started You Would Do it Too - Spanish show on AppleTV - its intriguing, basic plot after a couple of episodes - a guy shoots/kills 3 would-be robbers on a bus, the victims/witnesses frustrate police by not helping to identify the shooter.

Still watching this on AppleTV - its intriguing, with several plot twists.

Not going to win any awards, but I am still enjoying it, sub-titles and all.

Black Doves on Netflix seems like it's unsure of what tone it wants, flipping from camp to melodrama to slapstick... But it's a decent watch and 3 episodes in seems to be getting better.

Fallout was good, not great.

I suppose I'd have liked it more if I'd ever played the games. A lot of the mythos was lost on me.

I played the game and love the game series. Also thought it was good not great.

What's great about the games is the open world where you just pick a direction to go in and make your own adventure. That wouldn't translate well to a series. The story has never been good in any of the games.

6 eps, so highly bingeable.

Definitely recommend. It's not a perfect spy series because there's a lot of...oh, really- that'll fly in London? (or anywhere else) moments. But it does a good job telling the story And moving things along with some good humor, tension and action along the way.

I feel like lots of folks rag on the stories of Fallout but they are fine. Maybe not earth shatering but they are fine. Agree with Andy though. Show was ok but I think it could have been better.

It was an extremely hard thing to translate to tv and they nailed it. It’s not my favorite show of the year but they did an amazing job with it.

Walton Goggins is great in it, as always.

Severance season 2 trailer looks good. Still my favorite show of the last five years although I haven't watched much of anything other than live sports the past several months.

I'm going to add that there's some really great character development and fantastic acting in this.

Ok, Im equal parts terrified and falling out of my chair with excitement... Just found out Netflix is showing a 100 Years of Solitude miniseries!

Garcia Marquez reportedly refused to allow its use in film and TV. His sons agreed after his death to allow a long form miniseries, provided it was filmed in Colombia in Spanish.

This will be in 16 parts and no big English language stars. Starts Dec 11... No idea if it's a big bingeable drop or weekly. I kinda hope weekly.

This is my #1 with a bullet favorite book.

Supposedly drops on Wednesday.

digits crossed.

Ripped through 3 episodes last night and it's enjoyable. Good mix of humor, drama, blood, suspense, etc. Of course it has the gay and interracial relationships covered as well. Goes without saying, these days. Looking forward to the final 3 episodes in the next day, or so.

It ramps up from there in good ways

But yes, all it was missing was was the gay black woman cop... Because black women don't get to be anything else in these shows.

That said- the hitman buddy is fantastically acted.

For any fans of Wolf Hall (either the books or the series), season 2 is currently airing on BBC in the UK. It looks like not on PBS in US until March 2025.

Ludwig on BBC / iPlayer / :pirate: is pretty good if you like British "cozy" mysteries / quirky comedy whodunits. Very much in the vein of The Thursday Murder Club for the book-readers among us (until the Netflix series drops, which is going to be amazingly good btw). Premise is a Cambridge murder detective goes missing, and his introvert twin brother, who is a crossword-puzzle author, steps into his shoes to try to solve the case. But he keeps getting dragged into real murder cases in the process and has to quickly solve them so he can go back to it.
