Oh, nice. Didn't know they made a sequel. I liked the original and Shannon is fantastic. Will have to check this out.Not sure if it's been mentioned, but I just watched the mini-series Waco: The Aftermath, and thought it was excellent. A sequel to the 2018 series Waco, it can be seen on HBO or Paramount Plus. Both series have an excellent cast and are very well-done, with Michael Shannon leading the way in both as an FBI hostage negotiator. Giovanni Ribisi is also in the sequel, and he is flat-out phenomenal in his role.
I thought it was fascinating. Covers the events after Waco, what happened to some of the survivors, as well as some other pieces that I wasn't even aware of. Don't want to give too much away, but if you liked the first one, the sequel is a must-watch. Ribisi and Shannon are both great.Oh, nice. Didn't know they made a sequel. i should clarify that im not trying to say she did a bad job with the role i am just saying that i could not stand the character and i guess the whole point is that she literally does not believe in anything and nothing in her life is real take that to the bank brohansFor sure. But that's the character... She's a shell/spy. Going long con like that seems, dunno- unlikely and silly as a plot device (as does the whole Black Dove concept...what are they, Charlies Angels but to the highest bidder?). But I appreciate how it was written for her and played by Knightly given that background and storyline.i couldnt stand the knightly character seems like she conned the pm to be who is a good guy and she is just a cheater who doesnt know what is real and what isnt i only rooted for the sidekick take that to the bank brohansI mentioned in my initial post about it that I felt it struggled with tone. And yeah- the violence was a bit cartoony. I found myself rooting for the guy sidekick.I just watched this over the last couple of days on a friends recommendation. I didn’t bail but maybe because it was only 6 episodes. Was hard to root for anyone involved. A little cartoony.Yeah we haven't hated it. Just with the plethora of streaming options now we both really need to be into a show to continue with it. My wife also doesn't love the gore stuff so the show has to be spectacular (GoT, BB, etc. type level) for her to continue. It picks up a bunch the last 3 eps, fwiw.Wife and I through a couple episodes of Black Doves. We'll probably give one more episode a shot. Teetering on bailing.
But if you're not into at this point, not sure much will change for you. I enjoyed it.
Just finished Man on the inside. Enjoyed it, a light comedy with some seriousness. Only Murders comparison is solidA Man on the Inside is worth a watch on Netflix. Ted Danson is a retired professor hired by a PI to investigate some Retirement Home shenanigans. Some good laughs.
There are a few moments where they lean on the "old guy out of touch" crutch (and some times where it seems like this 8 episode series could have been an even better 6 episode series), but I was entertained more often than not. If you dig Only Murders in the Building, you'll probably like this.
I got a watch-suggestion on Thanksgiving for Supernatural. I was told that there would be times during the first two seasons that I would want to bail, but to give it a full 3 seasons before deciding one way or the other. I'm in the middle of season 2, and he wasn't kidding, this is a bit of a slog. It's got 15 seasons, so I'm half-way hoping season 3 flops for me otherwise I've got a lot of binging ahead of me.
Yep ....I posted in the rental thread. I wasn't sure how I felt after ....super sad or super motivated“Superman: The Christopher Reeve Story”
(Streaming on Max)
Excellent Documentary. Not sure anyone under the age of 45 would find it as interesting but still a fascinating life for anyone to watch.
Saw that. I'll be watching. Season 1 was not award winning TV by any stretch but it was a fun, quick watch. The new season of Sebastian Maniscalco's show Bookie started on Max. Nothing groundbreaking but it's good for a few laughs.
real real tear jerker, that. If I had to nitpick here I'd argue that the events at the end were out of order. Elsa is your climax and that should have been your ending. In general, I still feel like it was meh to good with a nice ending. I thought it was a nice show but at no point was I ever like "wow this is so amazing!" I might backtrack with my dislike of the narration, maybe in the last few episodes it gave it more of a "Western" feel or maybe just the melancholy of the situation. So I signed up for my free trial of paramount+ so I could binge watch 1883/1923. Just got done with the first 3 episodes of 1883 and I think it's ok. I think I sort of dislike the narration. It's a show, not a book.
The oxen thing is dumb but much easier to buy horses than oxen so understandable from a production standpoint. The dialogue in the love subplot is a little cringy to me. The setting is a little odd to me but I'm being overly nitpicky or I'm just dumb. Sam Elliot is a boss. It happens with all shows so the plot can happen but some of the things that happen felt contrived.
One thing that has nothing to do with anything but it's so odd to see it being "presented by mtv". I know Paramount owns them but when I think of MTV I think of stuff like Jersey Shore and other low tier reality shows and a show like 1883 seems so far removed from "mtv". I think most of us are old enough to remember when they actually played music.
Those shows got better as they went along. The starts were slow. 1883 in particular gets very good. The character development halfway through is better.
My favorite last episode is easily The Americans. But IMO the last episode of 1883 is one of the 10 best last episodes of a series.
Be careful. You will get a lot of slack for saying that. I thought the show was overrated. I also understand I am in the minority.Really enjoyed the first few seasons of HBO Max Succession. Been awhile since I watched season 3. I think I liked it? Just finished season 4. Out of respect for the first few seasons I finished it. Just wasn't good for me. Slow. Long. Drawn out. Yawn. Rinse and repeat. The storyline just got stale.
I think the difficult challenge for these sorts of shows where there really isn't a likeable character is to keep a viewer's prolonged interest. The Sopranos is the only show I can think of that really pulled it off. For me, like you here, shows like Mad Men, Succession, Yellowstone, etc. all caused my interest to eventually wane because I just didn't care anymore about what happened to the characters.Be careful. I'll continue to champion this show whenever I can in this thread. The writers do a phenomenal job with the culture and landscape of where and when this show is set. Wonderful attention to detail that honors the Navajo people.Dark Winds is pretty good. Decent mystery stories and I love the Southwest scenery - I've actually been in a couple of the small towns they mention in the show. Plus, I like Zahn McClarnon.
Good post and your absolutely correct. We need a character to hang our hat on. Once the dad died we had no one left to cheer for. Ya, he was horrible as a real life person but Logan Roy was a stud.I think the difficult challenge for these sorts of shows where there really isn't a likeable character is to keep a viewer's prolonged interest. Breaking Bad/BCS (Hank, Kim, Jesse in the later seasons were all likeable), Dexter, etc. all did okay (or at least didn't cause disinterest for this reason) because they still balanced the "bad: main character(s) with some likeable other characters that kept interest.

Hillerman often said the award that meant the most to him came from the Navajo Nation, which named him a Special Friend of the Dineh in 1987 “as an expression of appreciation and friendship for authentically portraying the strength and dignity of the traditional Navajo culture.”
Secret Level season 1 is out. Trailer.
Fun anthology where each episode is short and based upon an iconic video game.

I'm liking it too, although I also liked Raised By Wolves which most didn't. Dig Fimmel, but it's weird to me that Desmond Hart is almost the same character as Marcus Drusus in Wolves, which is kinda confusing, especially since Raised By Wolves also has a Dune connection. Still, like the show.Thought the end of the second episode of Dune was fantastic. Love Travis Fimmel playing unhinged characters.

I watched Say Nothing after seing it recommend here and didn't really care for it. I guess I was expecting good things after the reviews here.7 episodes into Say Nothing (Hulu). Pretty well done…..
My wife doesn't seem to be very much on board with it but since it's only 9 episodes she'll stick with it. I like it myself.I watched Say Nothing after seing it recommend here and didn't really care for it. I guess I was expecting good things after the reviews here.7 episodes into Say Nothing (Hulu). I've made it through the first 9 episodes so far. they're all pretty short, so it's an easy watch. the Warhammer one is INSANE, and my favorite so far. also, the Armored Core one has Keanu as the main voice, and is also very good...but too short.Secret Level season 1 is out. Trailer.

This is also on my listBlack Doves wrapped up the season well while still leaving meat on the bone for a second season, IMO.
I have watched a few episodes and it hasn't really grabbed me. It's been fine but nothing that I want to hurry back to see what happens. This is also on my listBlack Doves wrapped up the season well while still leaving meat on the bone for a second season, IMO.

I liked it. I find Kiera Knightly attractive but man between her teeth and her skin she has not aged well at all. I don't know that I'd say she hasn't aged well. But I did find it jarring seeing an older version of her because I'm pretty sure the last time I saw her in anything was 20 years ago.I liked it. Really enjoying bad monkey with Vince vaughn
Comedian Deon Cole? I've started seeing Ronny Chieng (also a stand up comic) in recent commercials.I'm two episodes into Average Joe on Netflix. I like it. It's a dark (very dark) comedy. Joe is played by the guy in the Old Spice body wash commercials.
Fallout was good, not great.
I suppose I'd have liked it more if I'd ever played the games. A lot of the mythos was lost on me.
I played the game and love the game series. Also thought it was good not great.
What's great about the games is the open world where you just pick a direction to go in and make your own adventure. That wouldn't translate well to a series. The story has never been good in any of the games.
Season 1 was awesome. Didn't care much for season 2.The Old Man was cancelled so no season 3. Disappointing, thought the series was pretty awesome.
