Watched La Palma. 4 part series.
Disaster story. Usual formula. People in charge won't do what people in the know recommend. Loser becomes minor hero. Some people make stupid decisions and somehow live. Teary reunion at the end.

We were all in a funk over the weekend and decided to watch something short and dumb. Picked La Palma... 4 ep Norwegian disaster porn about the Canary Island that *could* trigger a multi-continental tsunami should things go badly.

Oh yes.. things go badly. And oh yes, this was truly dumb. Hit the spot for us though.

Re: Traitors Canada's most recent season, for those that weren't aware, apparently the winner had a 15-page instruction manual/strategy document/manifesto they used to win. It included how to approach play from either side, as a Faithful or Traitor, what color clothes to wear and most faithful-looking hairstyle to have.

Scenario 3.b: Cast Doesn’t Include Other Big Brother Players + 1-3 Know My Past Game + Role= Traitor
Personality: Present as innocent, dumb, easily persuaded. Use a “wallpaper” strategy: blend in and avoid drawing attention.
Game Focus: Avoid being seen as a threat. Prioritize forming relationships.
Clothing: Use outfits and hair to convey naivety (pigtails, braids, lace, bows) and approachability.
Stick to neutrals (beige, whites, browns) to blend in and portray an unassuming demeanor. Avoid bright or intimidating colors (no red, orange, yellow) - nothing that makes me stick out. Nothing overty structured/bold
Notes:
Neutral, non-confrontational expression.
Keep a slight slouch to appear non-intimidating. Avoid standing tall or taking up too much space’, especially at the round table.
Be agreeable and supportive of others’ ideas and appear easily influenced.
Always have 2 suspected Traitors names ready to share-choose people with low social capital in case they get mad
Attn: Dan’s US game (pg. 15 for flaws)
Use being quiet as reason why I havent been murdered

Not sure if she's posted more excerpts but it's an interesting insight into her game, and a potential roadmap for future players

British and American versions of The Traitors start in January

All those 10/10 reviews on IMDB are mindboggling. Could someone please direct me to the people that are paying people to write 10/10 reviews? I mean, it's good not great. I think the source material is wonderful and one could do great things with it but that might not be the killers of Westworld.
I see the problem here. You are attempting to apply the Offdee looks ratings to Internet review ratings. It doesn't work that way. See below.

0/10 - Impossible. This never happens. You can't divide zero by anything. FBG Equivalent: Drafting yourself.
1/10 - I made a mistake but will blame it on you because it's not my fault. FBG Equivalent: Starting a player on a bye.
2-4/10 - Never used. FBG Equivalent: Individual defensive players. Nobody does this.
5/10 - Not too bad. Reliable but does not contain swearing, violence, or anything off-putting. FBG Equivalent: Murder, She Wrote
6-7/10 - Lacked a good plot or needed a better supporting cast or the kids were still up and you were distracted. FBG Equivalent: A trade involving kickers.
8/10 - Nearly perfect. FBG Equivalent: Players taken from the bottom of the first round to about the beginning of the 3rd.
9/10 - Flawless. Nothing like this will ever happen again until it inevitably does. FBG Equivalent: Jerry Rice 1995. Randy Moss 2007. Marshall Faulk 2000. LaDanian Tomlinson 2006.
10/10 - Pretty good. FBG Equivalent: 7 catches for 106 yards but no touchdowns in a .5 PPR

Day of the Jackal - Peacock
Enjoyed more than I thought I would. Eddie Redmayne knocks it out of the park as the titular assassin, almost felt like he was auditioning to play a darker James Bond. Action/plot isn't always believable but overall liked a lot and hope there's a 2nd season. If you like spy thrillers you can do much worse.

It went oops-missed dumb, but still enjoyed the sum more than the parts.

Just finished Dear Child, a creepy 6-episode Netflix production about control and abuse. I enjoyed the show.

Prior to that finished From, which started off promising and then just continued to go downhill, like Penny Dreadful.

Well... I'm afraid Dune: Prophecy is another sci-fi miss.

It's slow and self important. Like Foundation was on Apple. It looks good but there's really no story here.
Scenes are not allowed to gather momentum, end too quickly, and often either don't connect together or change in tone completely. In other words it just starts and stops way too much.

I wanted it to be good. IMO it's just not.

Binging Survivor Season 47 yesterday and today. Phenomenal season.
The 90-minute episodes vastly improve the show. There are too many twists and other game elements now, and fitting them all into 60-minute episodes often made for incohesive narratives.

45 would have been a painful season to watch with 60-minute episodes, but was entertaining with 90-minute episodes.

46 was the best newbie season since David vs. Goliath and had one of the best casts the show has ever assembled, and they were allowed to shine to their fullest with 90-minute episodes.

47 is somewhere in the middle. It would have been *fine* with 60-minute episodes but was a very good season with 90-minute episodes.

Disagree, loved it as filler story for so many threads 10,000 years into the future. To each their own.

Happiness - Korean zombie limited series from 2021. Has a different take. Enjoying it. Korea has its own version of the manic pixie dream girl, but they mix it with some martial arts and toughness.
2 episodes in, liking it so far. They're taking a pretty slow windup to the mayhem that's coming.

For me, AppleTV is the new HBO - almost every show is worth watching.

Binged the two seasons of Lioness.
I guess I went in with high expectations, based on comments I've seen here and there. I thought it failed to live up to the hype and I thought most of the acting was atrocious.
I'm a fan of Zoe Saldana, but her constant screaming and crying was hard to watch. I would think a person in that leadership role would have better command of their emotions,
Kidman was good. I never quite understood her husband's character.
I did like the entire Operation Team. I would continue to watch future seasons. The show was good. Just didn't flip my switch as a "must watch".

A few years ago, I was introduced to a show called "Friday Night Dinner". It's hard to find now, for streaming, but Season 1 is available to buy or rent, which, I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you have the opportunity to see a few episodes (or money is no object) and determine if the show is your sense of humor. It's British humor. So that might eliminate some viewers.
For me.....this is one of the top 5 funniest shows I have ever seen. It did take an episode or two to warm up to it, but once I got the characters, I couldn't get enough.
The premise is two sons that visit their parents every Friday night for dinner, and the neighbor that interrupts dinner each episode.

If you wanted a taste check out Youtube under the search of "The best of Martin Goodman on Friday Night Lights" (the father), or "The best of Jim on Friday Night Dinner" (the neighbor).

Forgot about another S Apple show that we like:

Silo - based on a book series

Dark Matter was another interesting Sci-Fi’ish series based on a book

Squid Game Season 2. Binged the first 4 episodes last night. They dubbed the actor's voices in English this season so no more having to read the captions the entire time

I think Apple does a great job producing good but flawed shows (let's say 7/10s).

Ted Lasso and Severance are the exceptions as those are exceptional shows. Slow Horses, Silo, Foundation, Shrinking, Bad Sisters, that show about the guy who goes to prison to get a confession out of a serial killer, etc. are all worth watching.

Started Rogue Heroes last night. Pretty incredible story of how the British SAS was formed in WWII. Also a pretty fun watch.

1941. British forces are on the retreat in North Africa and Rommel is heading for Egypt. Three British Lieutenants - David Stirling, Jock Lewes and Paddy Mayne - have an idea for a force that will operate behind enemy lines, attacking key installations - airfields, supply depots etc. Thanks to the work of Lt. Colonel Dudley Clarke, an intelligence officer, the ideal unit, the Special Air Service Brigade, already exists...on paper. Now it is up to Stirling, Lewes and Mayne to make it a reality.

Black Bird is the prison show.

Ugh. There’s still an option for subtitles right? Dubs are usually horrible.
Yep. I generally have sub titles on everything I watch. Ha ha. Could prolly be an entire thread on this topic. I have no idea why, but Squid Games for some reason kept me entertained season 1. Watched the 1st episode of season 2 last night and once again this weird show keeps me entertained. Can't explain it.

“No Good Deed” on Netflix. Ray Ramono, Lisa Kudrow, Dennis Leary, Luke Wilson and a handful of others. Just wrapped up the series. Kind of a dark comedy, drama, with lots of cliffhangers. Very easy watch and well paced. Would recommend.
