With only one episode left, any predictions on what happens to the characters in White Lotus? Loving the season but hasn't approached the elite levels of S2.

I really have no idea but I'll give it a shot

- I still think a monkey gets a hold of the gun after another Gaitok screw-up and it's another red herring the show throws at us.
- Saxon or someone bites it with the poison fruit in a smoothie.
- Greg/Gary's body is in the water (from the first episode).
- Rick and Chelsea have a happy ending as Rick has now got rid of his demons and can show her true love. Awwww.
- Malfoy and the Duke family is the hardest to predict. I'm going to say they pull a reverse and all stay in Thailand, except the daughter whose real motivation was to get away from everyone and she ends up going home.

But why is Brenda's son Zion in the water? Because a monkey has a gun?
My guess on the body is one of the Russians, shot and killed by Gaitok who is emboldened after Mook's push to be tough.
I think Brenda takes the money and Greg/Gary split once she does.
Agree on Rick and Chelsea.
Agree that the Hedge Fund family stay in Thailand, except for Piper who wants away from all of them.
I'm guessing the three frenemies make up and leave on good terms never to speak about what really happened in Thailand.

The only reason for my monkey theory is because in the first two seasons, the initial death is a red herring to what is really going on. Season 1 they made you think the body being loaded onto the plane was the wife, and in Season 2, Stiffler's mom died accidently.

Well.....I mean, weren't they going to kill her before she flipped the script?

Not sure, but it's definitely become a thing where they add a lot of misdirection with the season deaths. Gaitok getting some balls and being the shooter makes too much sense and is very predictable. But who knows.

Here's one for misdirection....

Saxson murders Lochlan. In an homage to Lord of the Flies, the character with the most amount of innate goodness is the one killed.
I’m not sure Lochlan is the one that fits the description, given what I think really happened on the boat — Lachlan never took the drug and knew exactly what he was doing to his brother.

Belinda probably has the most innate goodness. Chelsea thinks she does but really doesn’t.

I didn't realize Lochlan didn't take the drug. Was that disclosed? He gulped it down IIRC. He also said he blacked out.
Lochy not taking the drug is a theory from upthread.

A theory? So, we don't KNOW that?

He most likely roots for Duke. That takes away a lot of innate goodness.

Wasn't he torn on his college decision?
Yep. The perfect ending there is that he defies both sides of his family and goes to NC State.

Also, I don’t think the family can afford Duke anymore.

I don't understand how they are still staying at The White Lotus if the Feds froze all their assets.....the credit card company would be in contact with the hotel to alert them, right?
Maybe it was prepaid for

Uh......I've never checked into a resort that didn't require a major credit card to hold as an additional deposit for "incidentals" . Plus, how are they getting around town? Maybe the guy has a ton of local currency but this is one plot hole that irks me.

The CC would've been put down for incidentals at check-in prior to their assets being frozen, and maybe they haven't done anything that required the hotel to run the CC. That wouldn't happen until checkout, right?

I'm not disagreeing with you, just trying to think of possibilities.

Just finished latest White Lotus episode. I don't have a brother, but that got dark. Ha ha
I think what this is leading to is
Lochlan never took the drug — earlier in E5 we saw that he knows how to do sleight-of-hand — which means he was not knocked out and did what he did deliberately. Saxon will flip out when he learns this. Lochlan will be revealed as even more of a predator than Saxon is.

Ahhhhh, OK. This makes sense. I'll rewatch the scene tonight but he does look pretty messed up on booze at the very least.

Do we know what the drug was? I assumed XTC/Molly. That's one I have a lot of experience with but I never had the urge to drive stick on another dude.

Probably paid with miles.

It’s also possible that the firefight results from the feds arriving for Malfoy, but Valentin and Gary/greg both think they are there for him and some really dark hijinks ensue.

Is Malfoy the Hedge Fund dad?
Yes. Same actor who played Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies.

And yes, “Lochlan didn’t take the drug” is a theory I hold along with some other folks on the internet. Based on us being shown he knows how to do magic tricks. What I’m more confident in is that he will be the reason why Piper doesn’t stay at the monastery.

First episode of the studio is great. Bryan Cranston rules.

But it's an hour of Seth Rogan at a time, right?
The Studio makes me think there’s a great show to be made about the subject matter if they make it without Seth Rogan.

I thought the first episode was promising, but oooooooooooooofah that second episode with Rogan on set was damn near unwatchable. That scene was so over the top cartoonish it would have made Robin Williams embarrassed.
I liked the second episode and the third is fun too.

I get it, can’t stand Rogan and he sounds like a muppet but this show is great imo.

PBS Passport has been so worth it.

AFAIK they don't have a subscription plan. But if you would like to stream on demand from their vast library of BBC shows, documentaries, Austin City Limits, et al, you can get a two-year Passport by making a donation. It isn't abundantly clear how much that donation should be, but I sent them $60 since that was the lowest amount in the drop down menu. So basically 24 prepaid months, at $2.50 per month.

Two shows we have adored:
  • All Creatures Great & Small (5 seasons) - reboot of the 1970s Masterpiece Theatre show based on James Harriet's books based on his experiences running a veterinary practice in 1930s and 1940s Yorkshire (Seasons 4-5 bleeds into the start of WWII.) A sixth season which will come out fall 2025 has been announced. On Channel 5 (UK) it has become the networks highest rated show since February 2016. Sweet show, almost reminds me of watching The Waltons back in 1970s.
  • Mr Bates vs the Post Office (4 episodes) - broadcast in early January 2024, this series has blown the lid off a scandal that went on for 16 years (1999-2015.) The British Post Office pursued some 2700 innocent subpostmasters, over 900 of whom were convicted of theft or improper accounting. Incredibly, it was proven in a 2019 decision it it was all caused by faulty software. Massive coverup by the government and Fujitsu. There is an ongoing public inquiry in Parliament that will conclude this year. This case is stunning and heartbreaking. The Prime Minister described it as one of the greatest miscarriages of justice in UK history. Great storytelling and high production value.
Been taking in a ton of other content but those two have been our favorites so far. The entire Ken Burns catalog is available and I have loved watching their history stuff.

Never seen Harry Potter, so thanks for clarifying.

All Creatures Great & Small is a wonderful show. We watch it when it is aired on PBS. I agree it is a sweet and heartwarming show.

I just binged righteous gemstones up to the latest episode. I thought it was done because I hate having to wait for episodes to drop but whatever

I thought it was hilarious. Ozark meets Jim and Tammy Faye baker. I love baby Billy is also on white lotus. And there’s another two season show with Jesse and baby Billy I’m going to check out tonight.

Yeah Vice Principals is solid, gets a little dark at times. Judy is also in it…she’s got some crazy lines in that one too

Eastbound and Down is also great, another McBride one in the same style

I just finished binging Vice Principals. I really like McBride, I thought Eastbound and Down was fantastic, at least a few LOL's per episode.
Vice Principals I thought was terrible. Maybe one laugh per season. It's pretty clear that McBride is a one trick pony as far as his acting chops are concerned. Maybe it was because the secondary characters in this show weren't great, and the relationship with Goggins seemed forced, contrived, ridiculous, I dunno.
Will give Righteous Gemstones a try, but will be quick to pull the plug on this one if it doesn't hook me quickly.

Righteous Gemstones is better than Vice Principals. McBride is still very much McBride, but the supporting cast is better and the conflicts are less contrived.

Everything around Rogan is great, and I love stories about the movie industry.

Rogan is hit or miss for me. I think he's really good in This is the End, Pineapple Express, and Knocked Up.

It's not that I can't stand him, I just can't stand him in this role. He's horribly miscast. And with him being on screen 99% of the time, he's screwing up something I should really, really love.

The script isn't doing him any favors though. In that second episode, how do you get to go through the industry to the point that you're a boss at a studio - and NOT know that you have to be quiet on set? My suspension of disbelief only goes so far.

But ultimately I agree with you - there is a TON to love about this show.

Well, in a tragic commentary on my life, I re-watched Episode 1 last night and to my chagrin, there's so much I didn't really take in on first watch. For example, for some reason, I thought Zion was in the water around dusk/dark. :lmao: But no, it was bright light and I *THINK* at one point, he spots Saxon ducking behind a statue and Saxon tells him to stay down.....if it wasn't Saxon, the shorts he was wearing looked exactly like the swim suit Saxon wore when he was swimming laps.

I got nothing from the body. Tried to get a good look, but nothing really popped out.

Forgotten line of the year - while Saxon and Lochlan are in their bedroom and Saxon is talking about how hot his sister is (ewww) and how he wants to get his brother laid he pauses and says: "My biggest problem is figuring out how I'm going to JO with you in the room" before he excuses himself to rub one out in the bathroom, door OPEN before so his brother can watch before closing it on him. My god, that was NOT the foreshadowing I was expecting. :lmao:

The frenimies really make Laurie feel left out with their talk about money and plastic surgery and how pretty the other two are and how successful they are and Laurie just melts.

Forgot how much Goggins and Hedge Fund Tim hated each other from the start. Wondering if those two tangle before all is said and done.

Underrated exchange: The hotel owner cutting the Hedge Fund guy off mid-sentence upon arrival by asking Pam to show them to their room. She has NO time for his nonsense. :lmao:

I pay $5 / mo - its the best value on television. Austin City Limits is worth it alone, not to mention all the other great live music specials. Nova and Newshour are fantastic shows as are all the nature programs and of course the Masterpiece series which are too many to list. I love scrolling through PBS at night when I don't have something to watch and usually end up watching some weird #### like an entire broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof or some modern day Shakespear thing.

In fairness, I'm only 5 episodes in but really liking Goliath. I thought it might be new but this came out in 2016?? So glad someone mentioned it in here otherwise I may have never seen it.

I finished Mr Robot, thanks to the top 300 shows thread.
I enjoyed it , dont know if it worth a rewatch
Not sure which series I will start next

Agree with you both. I winnowed down my streaming subs several years ago, but Passport was never even in the discussion to be cut. I feel guilty because I don't watch it enough, even at only $5/month.

For 'The Challenge' fans, All-Stars S05 episode 1 is out.
Rivals/enemies from previous seasons are now paired up for the $300k prize.
Cast of 13 pairings.
13 pairs of enemies/rivals enter, down to the final 4 pairs

This series was recorded immediately after the 40 all-timers extravaganza, so a lot of 'not good enough for the big show' peeps.

The Good:
'Good teams' were targeted early and often - a rarity in this series.
One team literally eliminated half the pairs by themselves - 5 elimination wins.
Still the most physically and mentally challenging reality competition out there with very unique events.

The Bad:
Series is terrible for the social game aspect in my opinion. Too much relies on pre-existing relationships outside the game, which hurts new competitors.
Certain duos were targeted too much. I'd rather all participate in eliminations somewhat equally. Maybe 'win 3 and automatically in the final' type set-up.
Due to the combo of targeting good teams and the crappy social structure, a few teams are in the final that have no business being there. Didn't have to fight for it much.

Finale:
Could be a less than stellar one with some competitors not nearly in the shape the regular competitors are in. Some of them are going to be really struggling if there's running 15 miles, uphill in any event, swimming, or strength needed. The sleep deprivation phase could be interesting though.

2 teams had a lot of edits, 2 teams were just there in the background for the most part.
Rooting for the team that took out half the show - definitely earned it.

Since it's a rivals season, I'm wondering if the winning duo has 1 competitor take all the $ instead of splitting it.

Finale remains to be run...

Really well acted and a tough subject matter.

the subject matter is tough and I'm the farthest from squeamish you're gonna get, but the way they cover everything in the first episode had me squirming in my chair. Stuff like that with kids is hard to see.
Yea tough but to me, the son in the 2nd episode setting dad straight was exactly real life. The whole series was, just because it's tough subject matter doesn't mean it shouldn't be out there (not saying that either of you are saying that btw). Parents should watch this because there's a lot more of it out there than they realize. That whole subtle bullying thing that you & I wouldn't even recognize until some kid in HS deciphers it was very well done.
Watched episode 2 last night and agree with everything here. This is a very well done show in pretty much every aspect. Maybe I wasn't prepared for how real things got in episode one (the arrest, the police, the kid, the dad it was so real and uncomfortable), but with episode 2 I knew what to expect and was able to enjoy more of the details and cinematics. We'll hang in till the end.

As I'm watching and everything is single take i was so amazed at how much of a beast the camera guy must be, until the end of the episode and the camera flies up for a high attitude shot. I had to Google what was going on here and they seamlessly transfer the camera from the operator to a drone. Very cool how this show is shot.
Finished "Adolescence" up last night. It was very well done, but odd in it's flow, which actually worked pretty well to convey the experience this family and community would have gone through, chaotic and unpredictable. All the acting was really great, but the dad (I rember him as Al Capone in boardwalk empire) and kid stood out to me. The single take filming was pretty cool throughout the entire series. Probably won't watch it again, but I'm glad i stuck with it. It should be an eye opener to the parents out there.

We finished it up last night as well. I thought it was just meh. Very slow to me. Lots of things that didn't make sense and questions I would have been asking all along from the arrest time frame. While the single take for scenes seems interesting it really bogged down the pace for me at times.

Maybe it was all the hype but I was rather disappointed. It was fine. Not something I would really say you have to go out and watch right away.

I thought the writing, acting and single-shot production elevated this to must see.

but I did find myslf hoping they'd walk a little faster getting from A to B.

I might have been the only one to have listed it in my countdown but for those that haven't seen it it's still worth a watch despite not making the countdown. I thought about mentioning it when they were talking about BoJack Horseman and it dealing with depression since Gretchen also deals with it.

I had it at 56. It can be a hard watch at times because yeah it’s a comedy at heart but also the depression angle. Not just Gretchen I think the whole main cast has issues

I just watched the first two episodes of The Bondsman starring Kevin Bacon on Prime.
I’m not normally a fan of the undead genre but I like KB so I gave it a look. It’s got some good music and I learned a new use for duct tape.

tonight might have been the worst episode of the pitt this season and I’d still put it up there with some of the best episodes on most series. The pitt is that good and even their A minus episode is up there with the best series’s best episodes, season finale is gonna suck because there won’t be another episode.

the dad (I rember him as Al Capone in boardwalk empire)

Thank you, I've been trying to figure this out.

Only have watched first episode of Adolescence. Yes it's well done, but real time means it's also pretty slow at times. Not sure it hooked me.
This is how i felt too. It's a unique show, but paces and flows slowly and strangely. I think the overall body of work here makes it worth hanging in till the end, but it never really hooked me either. Like others said, it's only 4 episodes so not a huge commitment. If it were 8 episodes i might have tapped out.

I am not so sure it's worth hanging on. The other three episodes are more of the same and it's just a slow slog to get through. There really isn't anything that happens that is a must see. It kind of just ends.

Can't argue with that. It's definitely not really story driven. It's very random and slow. It makes up for that in other ways, but i get why it could be a boring slog to get through. I felt the same way for a lot of it, but the overall work was very good and upon completion when i look back i appreciate the uniqueness of it and the stellar acting. Like i said previously i probably wouldn't watch it again, but I'm glad i finished it. Definitely couldn't fault anyone for tapping though.

I get your points, but disagree generally. The "story", in terms of who-dunnit... Sure, although it kept me guessing along the way.

But it's the writing and acting about characters, time and place and relationships... All of which elevate this into much higher levels than typical show. Add in the single shot technical aspect, and it's far up there for me. But no- a linear sequence of super interesting plot driving events isn't what should be expected here.

Again i agree. If you look at my previous comments on the show it's those points that also make it worth watching and even exceptional to me. However, that said, i totally understand why people wouldn't like it or would be bored to death. It's a tricky one for me to rate. We 100% agree on what makes it good i think, but at the same time i can understand why someone else that isn't as impressed as you and I are about the filming and acting would start scrolling their phone 15 mins into episodes 2, 3, and 4.

I really hope that makes sense.

It's not that I can't stand him, I just can't stand him in this role. He's horribly miscast. And with him being on screen 99% of the time, he's screwing up something I should really, really love.
I generally cannot stand Rogan but he’s working for me as a bumbling doofus studio exec here. Like you said everything else is so great and I love anytime that Los Angeles is a background character in a show.

Perfect sense... Thanks! And I agree on all points.
