Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (25 Viewers)

I will soon pick up a new series and looking at one with a few seasons under their belt. Severance, Slow Horses and The Bear seem to be the most acclaimed. I'm open to other suggestions as well because there are just too many damn shows spread out across networks to keep up with.

Note: I watched 2 random episodes of The Bear and thought it was mid at best. Still can't get over the tomato sauce can season finale :poop:
I enjoyed all three with Severance as my preferred - though the "good" Bear episodes are probably pinnacle TV. But you can't really go wrong with Slow Horses either.

I have very much enjoyed The Night Manager on, I think, Amazon Prime.

And I'm about to wrap up The Staircase on HBO Max. Also very enjoyable.

Two goodies here folks.
The Staircase is a personal favorite of mine because I had a case with very similar facts and circumstances (we, thankfully, won at trial). But, this documentary does a nice job with a tough case.

Whatever you do, DO NOT star the Hunting Wives. It's like Charlie Sheen's waning crack. It's horrible for me, the effects are waning and I can't stop myself from watching. I'll be done by tonight. :bag:
But boobs

And, uh.....some other stuff. :oldunsure:
Again, I only saw episode one, but if it progressed from there...
Definitely a lot of diving lessons going on too

Oh yeah, plenty of that. What i was referring to rhymes with "nut megging". :oldunsure:

Did we know that Gen V is back? It's a The Boys spinoff that I don't like near as much but even the last 2 seasons of The Boys hasn't been as good. Don't know if anyone here watches it (Gen V) but I thought I'd pass the message along.
Gen V has been hit/miss so far, but I'm enamored with that universe so I'll probably give it a watch.
Did not know it was back. Looks like first 3 episodes? I will probably finish up The Institute then watch a couple of episodes this weekend

Black rabbit comes out tomorrow on netflix, Jason Bateman and Jude Law. IN

Set against the backdrop of New York City's high-pressure nightlife scene, two brothers are pushed to the brink by their duty to family and their pursuit of success. Jake Friedken is the charismatic owner of Black Rabbit, a restaurant and VIP lounge, poised to become the hottest spot in New York. But when his brother Vince returns to the business unexpectedly, trouble soon follows; opening the door to old traumas and new dangers that threaten to bring down everything they've built. Sometimes an unbreakable bond between two brothers can shatter their world, and everything in its orbit.

Jason Bateman playing a character with a dysfunctional family, huh?

It popped up on my Prime timeline but thought it was just them pushing it, didn't realize there was a new season

Might not be for everyone, but there's a series on Brit Box called Ludwig - it's a police/murder mystery show about a socially awkward super smart nerd who has to fill in as a cop for his cooler missing twin brother. Turns out his super smart skills make him a master detective. They really push his awkwardness in the first episode, but then it hits a nice groove after that. Ended on a cliffhanger, season 2 confirmed and is currently filming.

Six episodes, 1 hour each. More of a chuckle and smile show than a belly laugh type show. But I dug it.

Also watching Terminal List : Dark Wolf on Amazon and while it's not as good as the original Terminal List, it's very good. If it's your type of show you're probably already watching it.

Planning to start it tonight - really looking forward to it.

Watched the Charlie Sheen doc on Netflix. Couple things:

His father was put through the ringer time after time. Time after time he showed his son love. Tough.

His drug dealer friend that took that heroic stance to slowly weaken the strength of Charlie's crack was absolutely hilarious. His tone was he was like being fireman heroic. Charlie ends up thanking him for his heroism. Ha ha

Charlie was a mess for that tiger blood stretch. Just brutal to watch people riding that out.
Looking forward to checking this out this weekend - thanks for the reminder

Did anyone watch a show called Lie to Me? It has an 8.0 score on IMDB. To be fair, I'm only on episode 2 but so far it only seems like an ok show and not something that's amazing.
My wife and I watched the first few seasons years ago as a sort of backup when nothing else is on. I'd rate it a 7.

Funny. I'm rewatching it now. It's not great - a serial bad guy of the week type thing. But Tim Roth rules. He's so great - he makes the show.
It was entertaining. I think I had it in my list for the top 300 shows thread the FFA did awhile back.

I like those type shows with an ultra observant detective type thing with some humor. It's mindless TV for sure but I am a sucker for it. Lie to Me was a short lived show with only three seasons but I will fire it up every so often when I just want this type of show to watch.

Just watched the first episode and thought it was decent. Definitely in for the season to see where it goes. I'm also fairly confident the restaurant is loosely based on a place I used to frequent in the late 2000s called The Spotted Pig. It also had a 3rd floor that was a lot of fun.

Million Dollar Secret (Netflix)

This originally aired in March but I just got around to it yesterday after I saw it recommended in The Traitors subreddit. Binged all 8 episodes in one day.

Like The Traitors, The Mole and The Anonymous, this is a social strategy game where someone has a secret role that the others have to deduce. The difference is that the prize money ($1 million, obviously) is given to someone at the start by random selection. The winners of a challenge select someone from among them to receive a clue as to the millionaire's identity, which they can share in whole, in part or not at all with some or all of the contestants if they want, and the millionaire is given a secret task that will give them some sort of advantage if they complete it (sometimes they get a disadvantage if they do not complete it). At the end of each episode, the contestants vote for who they think is the millionaire, and the highest vote-getter is eliminated. If the millionaire is eliminated, the money is reassigned by random selection. Sometimes an advantage can be played that also reassigns the money by random selection. The endgame is a little like the box-switching finale of The Anonymous, but conceived and filmed better.

Obviously I got hooked since I watched the whole thing in one day. It was fun to see the cast learn the game as it went on, and to see alliances develop that sometimes led to decisions based on more than just "this is who we think the millionaire is". There was even a debate about whether to vote out someone who they knew was not the millionaire because of their threat level. Also helping was the gorgeous scenery. This was filmed at a lakeside resort in British Columbia -- and one challenge included three contestants being choppered to a glacier to retrieve ice from it.

The show has been renewed for a second season and I will certainly tune in.

It became obvious quickly that having the money in the first half of the game is a disadvantage, and having the money for more than a couple of cycles is a disadvantage because as more clues are given, the options for who could be the millionaire whittle down quickly.

The winner played brilliantly. They played a low-key social game for the first 2/3 of the time to build trust with everyone and keep their threat level low, and their game-winning move after becoming the millionaire was lying about something that they thought might come up in a clue and did. They also threw a challenge because they thought it would result in the elimination of the one person that didn't trust them, and it did. They also correctly anticipated what their opponents would do in the box-switching endgame.

Anyone cast on subsequent seasons who has seen this season should lie about anything they think will come up in a clue -- family structure, job, etc.

Some of the advantages were overpowered and led to random outcomes that led to the elimination of good players. But that is often the nature of these kinds of shows. Maybe subsequent seasons will dial those back a little. Clues that eliminate half the cast as millionaire possibilities are probably overpowered as well.

Casting knocked it out of the park except for Jaimi, who had zero concept of strategy and said some nasty things about some of her competitors. And she's a life coach? I certainly wouldn't hire her.

Finished Dexter: Resurrection yesterday

Entertaining enough. though this franchise is definitely in lather/rinse/repeat mode

Dexter's kid is a pretty, pretty good actor

Task is really good.

A few episodes in to both and right now Task > Black Rabbit
To be fair, Task is probably better than anything else that will air this year. It's a high bar.

Are there more than two episodes out?

Those first two eps are fine, but Im not getting the same response to them as you.
Just 2. I am very invested- what are they going to do about the kid? Who is the rat? Who is the mole? How ugly is thos home life situation with Ruffalo going to get? It's been pitch perfect so far IMO.

Smoke was decent. Too much "oh come on" writing, plot and action to make it great for me...hut still a good, typical Apple show. Loved the milkjug guy.

Watched the first two episode of Task and the first episode of Black Rabbit.

Task is very good.

A lot of bad reviews coming out about Black Rabbit. I'm a sucker for Bateman, but the pace is a tad slow.
Hoping it ramps up a bit.

my lady and i love task and i am two into black rabbit but it is taking its time to sink in maybe episode three will set the hook take that to the bank brochachos

I started the series Animal Kingdom. It's been entertaining with a few decent storylines and common threads between episodes that keeps me interested. Over the top for sure but has a bit of a Point Break feel at times.
We’re into season 3. Really liking it, although smarty is getting on my nerves a little bit.

Watched Apple Cider Vinegar on Nerdflix yesterday

Slick yet poignant docudrama about a world-class holistic wellness scammer of the first order

Well-acted, very entertaining and well done
