A couple things that stand out IMO:1) You are best served staying in the 21-25 player range. More than this and your team is too diluted of power, less than and you are too thin to survive the inevitable injury strike.2) You need to spend quality money at the QB and TE positions. Go cheap here and its gonna cost you big time.3) If there is any area to sacrifice and go cheap, its at the DEF position. The point production from here is low and is semi-unstable.4) You should carry no less than 3 PK, and no more than 6. I think 4 is the optimum number.Im gonna post my team after the deadline, but looking like 22 or 23 playersThis is, by far, a much harder contest than it was the last couple years. Kudo's to the staff. Been making changes 3 - 4 times a day.
Great minds think alike. Your team and mine probably look very similar.

7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 dwarves. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch. You know that old children's tale from the sea. It's like you're dreamin' about Gorgonzola cheese when it's clearly Brie time, baby.

IMO some people are seriously underestimating the value of early bye weeks for your studs....
Yeah, in theory. Bye weeks are crap this year, though. I don't want to have my 'studs' from off. juggernauts like KC, TB, Seat, Buff, Car, AZ, Mia, etc. Unfortunately, it seems like a lot of the guys I like this year have week 8-10 bye weeks.

I decided on Sunday that I had maximized my team and wouldn't be making any more changes. I actually made it until last night before making a minor tweak. So far today, I've dropped my 2nd most expensive WR and have made 4 other changes. Is there a FBG Contest Anonymous meeting I can go to?

:lmao: I changed this thing way too often, and today switched philosophies. I like the looks of my team but RB went from a strength to my possible downfall.

I'm going to bed right now so I can't make any more changes.

OK, maybe one more change before bed.

Anyway, I'll leave you with one last thought: for everyone who is excited about the price of Arian Foster, just remember what Admiral Ackbar said about Houston's running game....

Im not touching it anymore either ;)

QB = 2 ... 18.8 % of budget

RB = 5 ... 30.4 %

WR = 8 ... 29.2 %

TE = 3 ... 14.8 %

PK = 4 ... 4.0 %

DEF = 2 ... 2.8 %

=====

24 total

I spent all 250, have changed this freakin thing 2 dozen times t/d.

* I really wanted to have a 3rd QB but cant justify the cost.

* Found a way to squeeze in a 4th PK

* Smallest amount spent was on D

* Spent almost the same for the WR's as I did for the RB's

Last year I studied, analyzed, re-evaluated and carefully selected my team. Never got eliminated, never came close to a prize. This year, I just said, OK so I'll pick GB and Balt to be in the Supe. Knocked out my picks in a couple of minutes and am comfortable knowing I never win these kinds of things anyway.

i came in 2nd 3 years ago. i picked my team at the last min and in about 10 mins. it is 100% luck

i see some are going the quantity average player route. just do not see how that will work. need stud(s) to win

Same here. Always start these things with a heavy bias towards early bye week players, but quickly it was WTF when doing the same this year. I got a small bunch of week 4 byes this year, but for the most part I just tried to balance the load.

studs to win... but depth is needed to make it to the party... tis a fine line... so have both.

QB- $40

RB- $82

WR- $70

TE- $38

PK- $8

DEF- $12

the luck part is having the right people score the right weeks out of your bargain players....

[ as for my hint... remember... a TE could be your flex player any given week... so having two decent ones would cover byes and have a much better chance of one scoring well, while on the weeks that both score well, they both will probably count. Also with the RB costs... getting 3 solid RBs so one is your flex is much more expensive than two solid TEs and figuring on a TE flex... ]

finally satisfied. Reading news and posts is bad for this thing, every time I read something good about a player the thought is how to get him on my team. But, balanced byes, decent mix of studs, potential and cheap fliers, and I feel as good as I can about this thing. I'll put it out here now, if Collie, AGonzo, Ben, Flacco, CJ, Wallace or Spiller go off and would have won this for me I'll be mildly upset. Those are the key players I changed out.

I've changed my team numerous times! I went from 4 RB's and 8 WR's and 3 TE's to 5 RB's, 7 WR's and 3 TE's. I really liked my first team but had to many players on bye in week 10. All I wanted to do is change a couple of players because of week 10 and instead I've changed my team many times! This contest is like crack! I can't wait until midnight so I won't be able to change my team anymore. :banned: :loco:

I THINK I am going to leave this alone now. As of now this is my breakdown:

3 QBs - $42

5 RBs - $78

8 WRs - $67

3 TEs - $47

3 PKs - $6

2 DTs - $10

I have 24 total with $250 on the head.

RB is what I am most nervous about, but we'll see. I am sure that I have the same couple that a lot of people had - Spiller and Foster. WRs I went cheap, and just tried to spread out the byes so that I don't have more than 2 WRs with the same bye week. I figure without injuries that gives me a minimum 6 WRs to hopefully get some production from. TEs I spent a ton on - got 2 studs and one I think will produce well for bye weeks. all with different byes. After thinking about Rodgers, I went with my boy Brady for the earlier bye and mixed him with 2 others with different bye weeks too. Honestly PKs and DTs I didn't put too much thought into. I took SF and SD b/c looking at their schedules it seemed like most of the time one or the other was playing a crap team.

I'll post the actually roster tomorrow.

I thinked I've tweeked this as much as I can.

29 players, $250.00

3 QB for $54

5 RB for $76

9 WR for $60

3 TE for $33

4 PK for $11

5 TD for $16

I'm pretty sure my downfall will be at WR. Hopefully I picked a couple of sleepers in there.

Let's see where this one takes me..

QB - Philip Rivers - SD/10 - $19

QB - Ben Roethlisberger - PIT/5 - $14

QB - Derek Anderson - ARI/6 - $6

RB - Ahmad Bradshaw - NYG/8 - $18

RB - C.J. Spiller - BUF/6 - $17

RB - Arian Foster - HOU/7 - $13

RB - LaDainian Tomlinson - NYJ/7 - $12

RB - Leon Washington - SEA/5 - $8

RB - Tashard Choice - DAL/4 - $4

WR - Pierre Garcon - IND/7 - $12

WR - Jacoby Jones - HOU/7 - $10

WR - Mike Williams - TB/4 - $8

WR - James Jones - GB/10 - $7

WR - Dexter McCluster - KC/4 - $7

WR - Laurent Robinson - STL/9 - $7

WR - Legedu Naanee - SD/10 - $7

WR - Julian Edelman - NE/5 - $5

WR - Jason Avant - PHI/8 - $4

WR - Louis Murphy - OAK/10 - $4

WR - Devery Henderson - NO/10 - $4

WR - Greg Camarillo - MIN/4 - $3

TE - Jermichael Finley - GB/10 - $21

TE - Chris Cooley - WAS/9 - $13

PK - Mason Crosby - GB/10 - $6

PK - Dan Carpenter - MIA/5 - $3

PK - Rob Bironas - TEN/9 - $3

PK - Jason Hanson - DET/7 - $2

TD - Philadelphia Eagles - PHI/8 - $6

TD - San Francisco 49ers - SF/9 - $5

TD - Detroit Lions - DET/7 - $2

After fiddling around with the roster since it showed up on the site, I have finally settled on a roster:

27 Players

2 QB

7 RB

9 WR

3 TE

3 PK

3 DEF

The big decision was whether to keep a highly touted RB on my team. Typically I am against it as I figure I can net plenty of good weeks from a mass of cheaper players. Plus, it provides injury protection. I went back and forth and finally went with depth over studs and was able to confidently upgrade my TE 2.

I think I am finally happy with this team.

Now let's get it on!

:(

I really like my team...except that I have the QB, RB, and WR1 from the same team. Might need to go Brady to diversify...but finally almost done!

Congratulations to the contest creators as this was great fun in the pre-season and killed a lot of my spare time over the past two weeks especially. I have concluded my selections and will not look at them again.

An FYI from past years experience, you may want to write down your entry as sometimes they are not locatable after the contest timeline deadline passes. And if you are like me and several others, you will no be able to recall those final changes that you made.

Good Luck to all and to all a good night.

Your team is available under your "MY FBG's" Tab

Ok, NOW I'm done. :bag:

QB 2/$38

RB 5/$80

WR 7/$78

TE 2/$40

K 3/$6

D 3/$8

22/$250

I think I have a good balance of value players and unique players. :kicksrock:

QB - Tom Brady - NE/5 - $24

QB - Philip Rivers - SD/10 - $19

QB - Derek Anderson - ARI/6 - $6

RB - Chris Johnson - TEN/9 - $40

RB - Ahmad Bradshaw - NYG/8 - $18

RB - C.J. Spiller - BUF/6 - $17

RB - Arian Foster - HOU/7 - $13

WR - Calvin Johnson - DET/7 - $27

WR - Wes Welker - NE/5 - $21

WR - Terrell Owens - CIN/6 - $19

WR - Mike Williams - TB/4 - $8

WR - Laurent Robinson - STL/9 - $7

TE - Heath Miller - PIT/5 - $13

PK - Joe Nedney - SF/9 - $3

PK - Jason Hanson - DET/7 - $2

TD - Dallas Cowboys - DAL/4 - $5

TD - Detroit Lions - DET/7 - $2

question i have that we will find out soon is, is there anyone BOLD enough to pair up both Andre & Calvin Johnson.

Very costly move and whats worst is they both have the same BYE.

Ya thats practically suicide in a suicide contest. Im glad none of the players I picked had the same bye week in the same position without even checking!

Could be the winning formula...im going to try it and see what the team looks like.

Think I've finally finished.

QB - 2 for $37 (14.8%) - probably the most popular combo, but it just makes too much sense

RB - 4 for $65 (26.0%) - taking gambles with middle tier upside guys.... two with the same bye

WR - 5 for $83 (33.2%) - highest investment with some big names and no-brainer cheap guys

TE - 3 for $39 (15.6%) - probably 2 of them are very common, but one name I haven't seen much in here

PK - 4 for $11 (4.4%) - haven't changed these in several weeks and like the points for the cost...silly not to go with at least 4

TD - 4 for $15 (6.0%) - unlike kickers, I changed these often...almost changed all 4 just today...quantity is important here as well

That's only 22 players. Much fewer than my first few groups, but I felt I needed to have at least a couple of marquee players in order to have a shot at the $$. I made it to the final round 2 years ago...only to finish pretty low and out of the money....then I got knocked out in week 12 or 13 last year. I don't care about longevity this year...I'm taking more risks and hoping to finish in the money.

Love this contest and get more excited watching this team than my regular teams.

IMHO the key to this one will not be RBs. They won't count as much because of the Arian Foster affect. He will be 90% owned at least.

I will be shocked if any player is 90% owned.
Foster will be.
Let's not forget the Steve Slaton affect from two years ago and how irrelavant he made RBs that season. If Foster is a bust then it's a non-issue, but if he performs at High RB2/Low RB1 there is going to be a lot of wasted money for most RBs costing more than his $13 price tag. There are a few WRs I think that will also have a high ownership percentage and could seriously impact the WR pool. That's 2 RBs, 3 WRs, and potentially the flex spot out of 10 slots total.Being above average at QB and TE could set you above the rest. DST and Ks are just too unpredictable so most of that is luck factor. If you're going with studs you better hope they outperform the Arian Fosters and Mike Williams of the contest otherwise you're just throwing away cash...

i see some are going the quantity average player route. just do not see how that will work. need stud(s) to win
That is the beauty of this thing, they paid a lot more attention to pricing of lower players (making expensive) while giving people the lure of 30 positions. I cant see that as a winning strategy. 21-23 players should be a winner.

Two weeks ago I would have agreed with you completely, and all my teams were in the 23-25 player range. But as I started tweaking things, and looking at which players actually performed (scored) for their teams last year, it became evident that the big names weren't at the top.I wound up with a 30 player team:QB 3 / $46 (18%)RB 5 / $78 (31%)WR 10 /$75 /30%TE 4 / $23 / (9%)K 5 / $12 / (5%)D 3 / $16 (6%)We'll see. Last year I made it to the final 250 with a 20 player team (when clearly 24 player teams were statistically more revelant), and I'm sure now I'll be bumped in week 1. :kicksrock: One interesting item, I made a note at the end of last year that on average, the finalist teams spent 32% of their budget on RB's (vs 34% for all teams), yet RB's only scored them 20% of total points. Try as I might though, I couldn't make a 20% RB team work.Good luck everyone!

I had a blast last year, my 1st. I want to go as long as I can for the fun of it. Quantity was important to me and the way I figure it, if I find all the guys that perform above expectations I should do ok! I went RB heavy because most dont and I tried to choose some guys at all positions that are post hype.

we have the same top 3 RBs but I also have ronnie brown and only have 4

QB - Tom Brady - NE/5 - $24

QB - Matt Ryan - ATL/8 - $16

--> I tried teams with Rodgers, but I couldn't pull the trigger with any of the really cheap back ups. I had Schaub until I decided to carry Andre Johnson...at that point, I wanted to diversify and went to Brady.

RB - DeAngelo Williams - CAR/6 - $28

RB - Ahmad Bradshaw - NYG/8 - $18

RB - Arian Foster - HOU/7 - $13

RB - Leon Washington - SEA/5 - $8

RB - Tashard Choice - DAL/4 - $4

--> DWill looked like the only real value over $25. I toyed with Stephen Jackson to go against the grain, but I ultimately decided that Bradshaw and Foster would suffice for the RB2 spot. I anticipate TE covering flex most weeks, and I used the RB spot to create more flex depth. Between RB and TE I have 6 different bye weeks, and Choice/Witten are the only ones that match.

WR - Andre Johnson - HOU/7 - $32

WR - Santana Moss - WAS/9 - $18

WR - Mike Williams - TB/4 - $8

WR - Bernard Berrian - MIN/4 - $7

WR - Laurent Robinson - STL/9 - $7

WR - Louis Murphy - OAK/10 - $4

WR - Deion Branch - SEA/5 - $3

--> I think Andre will be a fairly low % play. I liked some of the $27 guys, but at that price, I thought I should just go to the #1 guy. I looked at Garcon and Dez Bryant for the #2 spot, but finally decided to use 7 WR instead of 8 to upgrade to Santana Moss. He isn't that sexy of a pick, but I just want solid production that can cover up for any stinkers from my low priced group. Douglas and Hartline were late cuts (to go up to Moss and add K depth).

TE - Jermichael Finley - GB/10 - $21

TE - Jason Witten - DAL/4 - $19

--> This is the key to the team. Finley will be high %, but Witten is almost as good of a value with the 1.5 ppr scoring. I expect Witten to flex most weeks (with Bradshaw/Foster potentially taking a few). The FBG projections would put Witten on par with Roddy White. He could lose a few TD from the projection (7 TD) and still be an excellant value.

PK - Neil Rackers - HOU/7 - $4

PK - Dan Carpenter - MIA/5 - $3

PK - Sebastian Janikowski - OAK/10 - $2

PK - Graham Gano - WAS/9 - $2

--> not much to see here. 4 different bye weeks.

TD - Chicago Bears - CHI/8 - $4

TD - Tampa Bay Buccaneers - TB/4 - $3

TD - Detroit Lions - DET/7 - $2

--> not much to see here either. Defense is a very low scoring position, so I wanted to keep it under $10 total. I like the Bears D this year, and I seem to get them in every league that doesn't have points against as a consideration.

The contest was awesome again this year...I plan for it more than most of my drafts. Great job by the staff on the prices!

Dude....our teams are only about 3 fringe players different....in all the year's I've been doing this, this is about the closest thing to a repeated team I've seen. Kinda scary, but hopefully we see each other in the finals!

QB - Matt Ryan - 16

QB - Carson Palmer - 16

QB - Chad Henne - 14

All of these guys could do well on any given week.

RB - Matt Forte - 20

RB - Marion Barber - 18

RB - Chester Taylor - 13

RB - Tim Hightower - 13

RB - Arian Foster - 13

RB - Leon Washington - 8

RB - Thomas Jones - 7

RB - Tashard Choice - 4

WR - Pierre Garcon - 12

WR - Mike Thomas - 11

WR - Mike Williams - 8

WR - Lance Moore - 8

WR - Josh Cribbs - 7

WR - Legedu Naanee - 7

WR - Julian Edelman - 5

WR - Louis Murphy - 4

WR - Devery Henderson - 4

I think Edelman may come in handy when the cuts get harder.

TE - John Carlson - 11

TE - Dustin Keller - 9

TE - Rob Gronkowski - 3

PK - Rob Bironas - 3

PK - Billy Cundiff - 3

PK - Rian Lindell - 2

TD - San Francisco 49ers - 5

TD - New England Patriots - 4

TD - Detroit Lions - 2

Total value: 250

I'm probably being a crybaby, but I don't like the values assigned this year. I don't think they make a while lot of sense. I guess my problem is I probably think of it in terms of my auction draft, which would have much wider numbers.
Well everybody (playes) should hate that aspect of the pricing because its more of a brain bender to find the value and more expensive to get the locks for production. I bet they tested the scenarios with a FF focus group in May :) ) Bottom line is that they did their job.
