Survivor Season 42: Starts Wednesday March 9, 2022 (1 Viewer)

I don't like this habit of bringing back past players. Do we really need to give Joe a 3rd shot? His tribe should throw the first immunity challenge and vote him off immediately.

They should just do an all-star season and leave the new players to themselves.
I think Jeff has a thing for Wentworth. Have no idea why she was picked again for the third time.

Am I the only one that hoped that Nick was simply psyching Angelina out so she wouldn’t practice making fire, only to change it to Kara and watch Angelina get flabbergasted.
I was totally hoping that is what he was doing.  I thought that would have been the best and would have solidified my vote for him if I was on the jury.  hahaha

I didn't watch this show for a few years...when they did change how the jury questions the final three?  I liked it better when they each stepped up and took their turn, rather than this free-for-all approach.
I wish they would do a hybrid of the two.  That final tribal should be long and investigative.  I don't mind the free flow of questions but I really would like to have each person on the jury be involved (they may have edited some of it out).

I was confused on that one part when Probst asked if they were done on that section and Christian said no "####### Way" but then he never asked anything after that.  That was odd.

But Angelina doesn't need to practice making fire. The tremendous heat created by rubbing her thighs together is enough start a fire.

I was really surprised this season that Mike's history of being an actor and being on Amazing Race etc... wasn't brought up.  I would think that folks would have been willing to make the argument that many would make about returning players... why is this guy on multiple reality shows when he's a success in Hollywood etc... It's almost like it was never brought up except for really early in the season.

Agreed. I am sure we don't see all of it and only the key/best parts are shown, but it was better when each juror gets their moment to walk up and grill the finalists.

And with the main show bleeding about 15 minutes into the 3rd hour, it made the reunion show a lot shorter as well.

The reunion show has really fallen off a cliff these last few seasons.  It is essentially useless because they don't really go into the season with the eliminated players or discuss any of the game play anymore.  I used to like when they did that.  Now it's just a glorified commercial for the upcoming season and a soap box for any social platforms the top few players are now involved in.

Wentworth looks pretty good on the Survivor diet. The last time she was on, she had some epic plays, but enough is enough of Joe. Aubrey looked like she needed another Survivor diet too.

I agree but many players have done the same thing.

I do like that Jeff never calls her by her first name..always "Wentworth"

Meh, the longer reunion shows had a ton of dead weight. Don't need to go down the line and ask every single person what they've been up to. Hit the highlights and move on.

I end up fast forwarding through a quarter of the last episode, just watch the challenges and the tribals and maybe even a little of the scrambling in between... I don't need the endless recaps... Skip some of the final tribal speech parts, because Angelina just ends up repeating herself and I know she's not going to get any votes, and I just want to get to the reading of the votes at some point.

Then the reunion show starts and I FF through a third of that too. Unless they're bringing up some strategic play that I didn't get during the season, it's not that interesting. By the time we get to the last episode I forget most of the pre-merge action anyway. Honestly anything more than five episodes ago, the alliances have shifted so much it doesn't seem to matter. I just skip over most of it and get to the next season preview.
That is my point.  Either go more into the season for items like the bold or just eliminate the reunion show.  I don't need to hear about what they are doing now or recaps for the sake of recaps.

For example, they mentioned the immunity nullifier and asked Dan a cursory question about it but it would have been nice to go into more detail about some of the things discussed in this thread.  Could someone play a second idol after that?  etc.  Strategy involved in items like that would be interesting to go over.

I'm just relieved that Gabby wasn't in the final 3 as the whole reunion show would have consisted of her crying for 60 minutes.

Cirie was out by default

What does that mean?
In Survivor Game Changers, at the final six Tribal Council, Brad had won immunity, and at Tribal Council, Cerie joined Aubry and Tai in voting against Sarah, while the rest of the tribe split their votes between Aubry and Tai. After the votes were cast, though, Tai played two idols: one for himself and one for Aubry. Sarah then played her Legacy Advantage, which gave her immunity at the Final Six. This prompted Troyzan to play his own immunity idol as well. In the end, Cerie, being the only one without any immunity, became the first player ever to be eliminated by default, despite having no votes cast against her.

Semantics. She was actually voted out. Kind of silly to call it by default and say no votes. In essence they didn’t do the voting because everyone would have had to vote for her. Not the same as Kara who lost a fire challenge where there was no vote. Cirie didn’t get a vote because they skipped the vote.

I thought this was the worst season in along time.

Davie should have been there but in Survivor the best 3 never make it to the end.  The strongest players get voted out early. The quiet non threat players like Mike skate by week to week because nobody fears them.   I still don`t know what Mike did..even when he won immunity nobody went his way.

Nick deserved it by winning 3 in a row at the end because he would have been ousted at every tribal had he not.

Still think an all woman or all man survivor would be great.
best season to watch in a while.  that middle stretch, where the david's turned the tables?  good stuff.  then they promptly #### he bed.   and,  it usually devolves into a bunch of people that i don't really like/think deserve to get there.  can you imagine a final 3 of alison, rice lady and mike :sadbanana:

Not sure I’d say semantic.  Especially considering she had 0 votes against her the entire season!  Had she had an idol there would have been no votes again at that council.  Pretty impressive!

Definitely semantics.  Cirie was sent home by a vote of 5-0 (or 6-0, however many people were left).  They just didn't waste the time of actually doing the revote.

But did they write her name down?
Did you skip the part where I said "They just didn't waste the time of actually doing the revote."?

Did you see them write her name down ... no.  Because it was unnecessary to make all 5 of them go to the urn one at a time and write Cirie when it was unnecessary.  Doesn't mean that she didn't technically get voted out 5-0

Exactly. To say she wasn’t voted off is semantics. She was, but because she was the only option to vote off, they didn’t physically write her name down. Kara wasn’t voted off. If she won the fire challenge she would have made the final. That said, you could consider that semantics as in that was the “vote” but in Kara’s case I wouldn’t argue with someone who said she wasn’t voted off.

I guess I’m in the minority, but I thought Mike played a great game.*  Great moves behind the scenes without making himself a target, great social game.  On the other hand, Nick was on the other side of a ton of votes, though the three immunity challenges in a row were impressive.

That said, I really wanted Nick to win once Davie was out.

*Christian agrees with me.
He might have won if he didn't go on the odd, mean rant against Alison. His only chance was being the "nice guy" to the very end.

**missed Walking Boots post, same thought

question.  with the new twist where people can choose to stay for a chance to get back in or leave.  I simply cant seeing anyone saying, na im good and leaving.  I would be very surprised.  Do we really think that would happen?

I'm upset it's been so long!

I've watched Canadian Amazing Race and South African Survivor just to get through the gap.
ohhh south african?  How is it?  When is the next Australian Survivor?

Is this gonna be the thread for the new season? We usually let a few eps build up and then binge, so I'll bookmark it.
it has been the thread for a handful of seasons now.  I just keep changing the title and add a new pointer in the first post to indicate where in the thread the new season chat starts.

It was fine, but Australian was better. I hear the next season of AUS will be another Champions vs Contenders, which is fantastic. They are supposed to start filming in April so I'd expect it to come out around October/November?
The final challenge of Australian Survivor season 3 was one of the most dramatic scenes I've ever seen on TV (via internet). Holy crap do they know how to build a story.

Decent first episode.  Surprised it wasnt 90 mins though.  Will be curious to see how much of a trainwreck Extinction island will be.

"I can't believe they all find me to be obnoxious and abrasive" - person who has clearly been obnoxious and abrasive their entire life.

I honestly can't believe there are people out there with so little self awareness

Me either.  Unless they all are returning players.
Agreed... such a stupid idea to invite back vets. Joe and Wentworth will clearly be a quick exit. The likes of David and Aubrey, who skated by nearly to the end previously as zero threat nobodies, have little chance to fly under a 2nd radar. Aubrey was already named as a target in the first episode. I don't see how this is better than fresh unknowns on an even field.

Aubrey has already done it twice.

I like Aubrey but the problem with inviting folks back this many times is everyone already knows their game.  Granted people like Cerie and Sandra always find themselves in the thick of it though so maybe there is a chance.

Amazing how the lady thought being defensive to everyone would somehow change everyone's mind about voting for her.  Pride.  Maybe she's never watched the show.  She was funny though... F them and F this edge of extinction island!

Odd for someone to come on the show not knowing how to swim.  Kudos for him, though, for recognizing when he needed to distance himself from a sinking ship.  Well played by him to put the target on the older woman.

Hope they keep the girl with Tourette for awhile to see what she'll do next.  She couldn't keep her finger off her eye last night.   She said she was a super fan but how does she fall into the trap of voting with a lost cause at the very first TC?  She said she would vote with her because of loyalty.  huh?  All your vote did was get Lauren mad at you.  Vote off the older woman with everyone else and play on.

If you're going to pair off with someone on day one, you probably need to make sure it is with 3 or 4.  Not smart and way too early to vote because of some loyalty to just one person.

I like this new "Twist"...  Extinction Island looked to be one scary bleeping place to be taken to at night... especially for the very first person sent there..

Interested to know the "When they return" part...

Are they out there until the next person is voted out and makes a decision to stay in the game?

or do all players voted out stay on extinction Island until a certain point where they all return and compete to return to the game?

Extinction Island will be a thing, however, and both refer to this season’s insane twist: Every player voted out of the game will have the option of going to Extinction Island, where they’ll wait for two chances to get back in the game, at the merge and at the end. What will they do on Extinction Island? Sit around, and perhaps behave terribly to encourage others to quit. Anyone can leave Extinction Island whenever they want, but they can also stay for the length of the entire game, doing nothing except waiting. They won’t compete in challenges, or go to Tribal Council—at least not at first.

Eventually, after the merge, all of the players on Extinction Island will form the jury, meaning theoretically, there could be a 15-member jury and a final three. (There are a few spoilers if you want to know what possibly happens, and those spoilers include names of people.) And yes, that means every single Survivor contestant might still be on the show on day 39.

Will every player who’s voted out opt to go to Extinction Island?

What will happen there?

Would the jury vote for a player who spent significant time on Extinction Island but won their way back?

If the jury is composed mostly of Extinction Island players, does that mean they’ll vote for one of the two of their own who make it back into the game, instead of the players who’ve actually been playing?

Why on earth would Jeff Probst and company bring back Redemption Island, one of the most reviled twists in Survivor history, and make it even worse?

I hope they get over being starstruck quickly and vote out the returnees. It's always a mistake to let the stick around.
I don't know. I'd have a tough time voting Joe off before the merge if he were on my tribe. I'd think the lowered risk of tribal would be worth having him around.

Of course, that plan could backfire with an unfortunate tribe shuffle.
