Survivor Season 42: Starts Wednesday March 9, 2022 (1 Viewer)

Every player voted out of the game will have the option of going to Extinction Island, where they’ll wait for two chances to get back in the game, at the merge and at the end.

If the jury is composed mostly of Extinction Island players, does that mean they’ll vote for one of the two of their own who make it back into the game, instead of the players who’ve actually been playing?
Don't like the sound of that.  The merge is one thing but at the end?  And the jury is the people he/she/them have been with the whole time?  Sounds awful.

And would the jury, if on extinction island, be able to watch what's going on in the game?  Would they not be able to go to tribal council to view behavior/votes?

I like this new "Twist"...  Extinction Island looked to be one scary bleeping place to be taken to at night... especially for the very first person sent there..

Interested to know the "When they return" part...

Are they out there until the next person is voted out and makes a decision to stay in the game?

or do all players voted out stay on extinction Island until a certain point where they all return and compete to return to the game?
If it’s the latter, isn’t that the same setup they had before with challenges between people voted off? Redemption island. If it is just a single person coming back then it’s basically the same concept except maybe it’s survival and not quitting instead of challenges. One would assume it’s got to be difficult otherwise too many people come back.

Something tells me it’s just a new version of Redemption Island.

Extinction Island will be a thing, however, and both refer to this season’s insane twist: Every player voted out of the game will have the option of going to Extinction Island, where they’ll wait for two chances to get back in the game, at the merge and at the end. What will they do on Extinction Island? Sit around, and perhaps behave terribly to encourage others to quit. Anyone can leave Extinction Island whenever they want, but they can also stay for the length of the entire game, doing nothing except waiting. They won’t compete in challenges, or go to Tribal Council—at least not at first.

Eventually, after the merge, all of the players on Extinction Island will form the jury, meaning theoretically, there could be a 15-member jury and a final three. (There are a few spoilers if you want to know what possibly happens, and those spoilers include names of people.) And yes, that means every single Survivor contestant might still be on the show on day 39.

Will every player who’s voted out opt to go to Extinction Island?

What will happen there?

Would the jury vote for a player who spent significant time on Extinction Island but won their way back?

If the jury is composed mostly of Extinction Island players, does that mean they’ll vote for one of the two of their own who make it back into the game, instead of the players who’ve actually been playing?

Why on earth would Jeff Probst and company bring back Redemption Island, one of the most reviled twists in Survivor history, and make it even worse?
Interesting... HATE the stay and return at the end.. At the merge though would be fun...

If they wanted to go that way it should have been.. Voted out, can go to island until Merge and then win your way back in..
Then restart Island, with the merged voted out people now...

The first time, people have no idea the voted out could come back so the  value is there...

But after the merge, knowing there is a possibility the voted out could come back and/or be part of the jury would change TC dynamics..

Debate on the other forums is "Who was worse, Reem or Natalie from last season?"

Glad we might not see Reem in camp anymore, hopefully whatever this twist is, we'll get a minimum of her. Having to suffer through Natalie last year almost made me drop out.
While they are similar, Reem seems like Amy Adams in Enchanted compared to Natalie.

Agreed... such a stupid idea to invite back vets. Joe and Wentworth will clearly be a quick exit. The likes of David and Aubrey, who skated by nearly to the end previously as zero threat nobodies, have little chance to fly under a 2nd radar. Aubrey was already named as a target in the first episode. I don't see how this is better than fresh unknowns on an even field.
Aubrey is the best player in the past 10 years on this show. She is up there with Russell. How dare you say anything negative about her. HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!

I hope the conditions on extinction island are so bad that people will choose to quit rather than  continue to stay in the game. My guess is that people will want to continue but medically they will be pulled due to dehydration, exposure. Someone like Joe however, may actually be able to survive by building fire and catching fish, which I think is what survivor would like to see.

I don't know. I'd have a tough time voting Joe off before the merge if he were on my tribe. I'd think the lowered risk of tribal would be worth having him around.

Of course, that plan could backfire with an unfortunate tribe shuffle.
I totally agree.  I have never understood when tribes immediately start preaching voting off the strongest players at the first tribal council.  There is too much game to be played and at this point it is much more important to win challenges and stay away from tribal council than worry about a strong player going home now.

Strong players serve two purposes. First, help you win immunity challenges and hopefully help around camp (Joe does both). Second, they are always a target, so that can keep the target off of other strong players. It's a balance between keeping them long enough to help your game, and voting them out before they have a chance to make it to the end.

I don't think you should think about voting off strong players that help your tribe until you get to merge or the vote immediately prior to the merge.  Up until that point it is of more benefit to you to avoid tribal council and the best way is to keep your tribe strong.

Now if you are on the chopping block on the way to tribal council then by all means do whatever you need to in order to stay in the game.  But bringing up voting off strong players before you have even had a challenge is just asinine.

So it is interesting how top dogs like Joe need to play the game. Obviously as a returning player, he is a target. And the fact that he is a strong player and likeable he is a target. So how does he go far? I think he needs to target weaker players to align with. Other strong players will want to take him out, whereas weak players who need all the help they can get may be willing to work with him to take them as far as he can. It will be interesting to see who Joe tries to ally with.

I also think by doing everything possible to just avoid tribal council for as long as possible.  One of the main things it appears people forget on the game is that if you never go to tribal council you can't be voted out.

Tribes usually start to go downhill as soon as they start trying to "play the game" way too early.  Your #1 goal until the merge should be to avoid tribal council.  Keep your team cohesive and strong.  Too many teams get derailed when they start conniving and breaking up any team strengths and then go on a challenge losing streak and have to vote out players.  The worst is when they decide to throw a challenge so they can vote one person out.  That always backfires and causes big issues.

I would like to see someone come in with the strategy of trying to keep your tribe focused on playing together and being a good team to avoid tribal.  This will also help at the merge as you should be able to build strong relationships as everyone is trying to work together.

The other thing tribes lose sight of is that the more dissension there is in your tribe, the more likely you will have tribe members flip to the other tribe when the merge comes.

I think this is the case. At first, it's an an obvious choice to stay in the game. But it might be exile island with zero resources, and the weaker player will tap out within 12 hours.

I'll never understand why people go on this show when they can't swim. How freaking embarrassing

And is that dude actually seriously asking people to call him Wardog?

I would keep tribe strong trying to win some immunity challenges for now.   You go to merge down big numbers it could be over.

I’m intrigued to see these two on temptation island.  They both seem like people who will sulk and complain.  Hell they both may quit :lmao:

Keith, it's a simple choice.  If you want to play the game go left.  If you do not want to play go right.  It said that there is a boat so you won't have to swim to the island.

I wanted to see Wentworth and the older woman together on the extinction island for a few days.

Aubry's scam getting exposed :lmao:

Terrible game play by her.

She really thinks no one else on the island will talk to each other and say "wait, she said that exact same thing to me" ??

:lmao:
Bad game play may be what takes the target off her back and allows her to go further.  I'm not saying it is a great strategy, but if people come into the game thinking I am a great social player and strategist, making simple, non-threatening mistakes could make you look beatable, and thus less of a threat.

I think you are giving those people way too much benefit of the doubt. I guess it may be because of the immunity wins but we are barely getting to know anyone on that tribe outside of Aubrey getting outed.

I think the problem with your thought is that the first one voted off of a tribe is the easiest and the one everyone is thinking. It’s better to go with the flow than rock the group on the first vote.

It’s painfully bad and it’s an awful strategy. You aren’t going to tribal so get to know people. Asking them how they feel about returning players puts them on the defensive right away and she literally made herself vote 1.

Waiting for next week when Lauren's idol gets washed away by the tide- worst hiding spot ever.

Keith- if it takes you that long to decide whether to go home or keep playing and you're hoping God/Jesus will tell you what to do you should probably just go home.

I'm sick of returning players too unless it's all returning players.

It's really simple, you can always quit later.  Who after just getting voted out selects go home as the option?  Can't wait to see that.

Also I hate returning players playing again with first timers.  Completely unfair.  Took Boston Rob 4 tries and they set him up with a group of followers in order for them to give him a win.

Just rewatched the second episode and once again, Aubry is playing a perfect game. I know it's early but her game is flawless so far. Making the right moves and fooling the other players. FLAWLESS.

Dang it.. No one informed me it was opposite day.

Yep, this is why it is so unfair for experienced players to go up against new players. The previous experience allows you to play the "perfect" game as Aubrey is doing. Those new players just don't realize that they are supposed to get out of the way for the experienced players so that they can win. Foolish newbies.

Just for fun, they should not show what choice Keith makes, and instead when the next person is voted off have Keith still standing there asking god/jesus what he should do.

I too wanted to see Wentworth and Reem have to work/be together by themselves. By the way the extinction island looks an awful lot like the island Tom Hanks was on in Castaway.

:lmao:  First thought I had, too. "What is that, like, 2 inches deep on a beach?"
I am still trying to figure out why she had to hide it in the first place somewhere like that.  It will be great when that thing washes back up on shore and somebody finds it...haha

The way they should have worked this is have 4-5 people be out there on the island, back at camp do a tribe swap and just as everyone is looking around at who their new tribe mates are, have the 5 outsiders come walking down the beach and be a third tribe. The reaction would  be priceless.

They would have to do a couple weeks where two tribes went to tribal just so the game didn't stretch out too far.

Monuriki Island (Tom Hanks island in Castaway) has been used in several seasons, so very well could be. They have been utilizing the resort close by for the ponderosa for last season and the next two seasons in 2019

If it is the same island, is the cave from the movie actually on that island? If so, that might come in handy if it rains.

Reem complaining that they have to hike everyday to get rice. She should be eliminated just for that comment.

Bad luck for Chris. Sometimes it's better to just go with the easier, obvious choice (Wendy).

And why is Wendy even playing the game if her main concern for the chickens is going to put her at odds with everyone else on the tribe. People's lack of self awareness is amazing.
