Well, i just was trying to understand if your theory would also extend to the past. Remember, i feel that race amongst many other factors play a role in survivor. So assuming you think this jury favored a black player just because they were black, i would assume you would also assume this likely happened in past seasons. Which you do. Thats mostly what i was trying to gauge.
BTW i wouldn't say it(race, gender, etc) wasn't a focus back then. That depends on who you asked. It was talked about a ton by many who follow the show. Especially gender.

I think I started around season 5. I haven't seen a cast list for the upcoming season so I don't know who's coming back from which season. The upcoming one is the 9th.
It's decent, some of the accents and slang can take some getting used to. But there aren't many options for other English-speaking seasons so I'm happy enough with it.

for the record....DREA brought up being aggressive....by saying "don't say I'm being aggressive" and then Jonathan basically said "well you are"....it wasn't as if out of nowhere Jonathan played the "you are being aggressive" card.....
I think it was about half...with a few giving the 50/50 sign.....Omar actually announced on behalf of the group that all of their votes were basically "up for grabs".....

ftr, I haven't been active on FB in... no idea... a decade? but I signed up to join that Survivor group and have been happily watching the Aussie episodes through it. totally worth watching the rest of those you haven't gotten to yet- some incredible players and lots of fun play.
you left out the part about "but yeah, now that I went back and watched it again.... you are right....the word aggressive probably never comes up if Drea doesn't bring it up first"...I tried to be nice. You seem angry and aggressive.

and I'm ok with any resolution loss... I'm not watching this for the incredible visuals.
just watched the finale last night due to vacation, etc...so a little late to the party here....quick observations..
1. Jeff and the producers must be feeling some heat about all the twists, etc. because he made a point a couple times of asking things like "were the twists fun"...."did they make you change your game"....etc....almost setting up the contestants to justify the show going completely overboard with all the gimmicks now....what are the contestants going to say at that moment...?...."no we hated them Jeff and think they are stupid and there are too many and it changes the game too much"....think that is a pretty lame way to justify jacking with the game too much....I really miss many of the core aspects of the old survivor....
2. MA taking credit for the Omar move is way overrated....it wasn't her move....she admitted as much....it was Mike and Jonathon who planted that seed....Maryanne just went along with it at the time....why...well basically it was the right and perfect move to make at the time...it was a no brainer that she did not orchestrate....glad Jonathon called her out on that...I feel she got more mileage out of that then she should have....
3. MA didn't win one challenge and mostly coasted...she played the weird young girl who you want to take to tribal all the way to the end....she did....she shouldn't really get any props for not giving Lindsey the idol, that would have gone down as one of the worst moves in Survivor history...the whole "didn't want to lose a friend" thing is so lame...yes she crushed her answers at tribal and is very well spoken, that by far was the best part of her game and a shame that that was enough to win...."crushing it at final tribal" gives me a yucky feeling about what it may only take to win...she did crush it however and the saving an idol thing put a stamp on it and I knew that card was coming and it was played well by her....it took a lot of the heat off of her trying to take credit for the Omar move...
4. Personally I hate that making fire at the end has such a big impact on the game....I wish there was something else or that they would just let it play out to where there are only two left at the end, not three....I get fire is the core of "surviving" but that late in the game that skill is a huge game changer...
5. still waaaaaaaaay too many twists....like I said in #1 ....hate that the show used "the show" to justify continuing with the crazy twists...
6. pretty obvious the focus on diversity has changed the game in a pretty dramatic way....not necessarily a bad thing...but almost swung the pendulum completely in the other direction....not sure that's great either....the physical aspect of the game, not just in challenges, but shelter/providing is becoming less and less important...almost non existent....Romeo did literally nothing but sit around and eat the leftover rice (as highlighted by the show) and didn't win until he lucked into winning the final challenge...the juries will continue to be more diverse and more diverse will probably win as a result....Romeo and MA won a combined one immunity challenge with the one win being the last challenge by Romeo...that about sums it up...
think Mike only won one too...
if we are honest....and just take it for what it is and a way of looking at things.... a lot of what @offdee has hinted at has some merit....he isn't bringing up anything way out of line...it's real life stuff and we saw it play out here....and the things like what happened in BB with the cookout are things that happen and are accepted now....we will never get away from those discussions when there are shows like survivor out there that bring these things up and have money on the line....
overall I enjoyed the season more than I thought I would after the first few episodes....I think a mix between what we saw here and something with less twists etc. would make it even better.....I think the pendulum has swung too far into the wrong direction as far as minimizing the physical challenge part of the game....less days also adds to limiting the need of physicality....thought Mike played a better game throughout the game....you have to lie in survivor, he should have just owned it and said I was a better liar than you and my social game allowed me to get away with it....MA had things fall right for her and had a tremendous final tribal....I would have been ok with Mike over MA....but with the way the season broke down, the makeup of the cast, etc....I can see why she won...she played it well...

I've watched all of the AUS seasons through the Facebook group using an HDMI cable from my laptop connected to the TV so I can watch on the big screen. I never really minded the bad resolution and then in this most recent season, there was one week towards the end where the streaming link wasn't working for some reason, so I clicked on the HD download and saved it to my laptop and then watched it that way. I was shocked how much better the HD download looked, and it only took about 2-3 minutes to download the episode. Then of course I just deleted the download when I was done. I'll definitely plan to watch AUS this way going forward.

at the time of that post you were inferring that Drea wasn't being aggressive....(as indicated by your following "wow" comment)....which she 100% was with her comments, foul language, talking over and cutting of Jonathan, etc....the previous poster was right that Jonathon took too much heat from those spinning it that Jonathan violated some code by playing the "black people are aggressive card"....which he did not...

feels like the "goal" of the show or at least a big part of the show, shouldn't be trying to navigate things and take the Romeo's of the world along for the ride to tribal so you get an easy win....the focus should be on surviving against good all around players instead of trying to navigate things so you have the right "matchup" at the end...really what gratification is there is beating a Romeo at the end...?...who didn't receive one vote...?....does that make you a great player since that is the way it shook down....I guess you could make a case for that....but at some point, everybody wanted to take Romeo with them because they knew he wouldn't win....so its not some great accomplishment...that just doesn't feel right from a competitive point of view....
it takes away from the ending and almost puts an * next to the win for me and part of the reason I would prefer they do away with the fire thing and just continue to vote it on out like they used to....a guy who was the "in case" guy throughout the show and literally did nothing to outwit or outplay anybody....was carried close to the "outlast" part with absolutely ZERO chance of actually winning/outlasting...there is a reason he got zero votes...that is a hole in the show that has been created by all the changes, etc...guess I'm just looking for a final three that is more reflective of the actual 3 best players out of 18 where the jury really does have to consider all 3 because they deserved it....in a way the jury shouldn't be in a position where they basically just totally dismiss one of the final three players ...

I think you may need to watch a different show, then. Survivor has pretty much never been about the three best players getting to the end.
pretty much any player on the jury deserved final three and a chance to receive votes more than Romeo.....he did nothing....and that's an insult to nothing....
it wasn't some great accomplishment "navigating" it to get Romeo with you....all of the players wanted to take him...and that feels yucky...
I just don't like setting it up to carry a baby bird with a broken wing Romeo to the final tribal just to increase your chances of winning.....everybody wanted him to go with them....that just rubs the competitive part of me wrong I guess....hate that aspect/agenda that has become a huge part of the game and something you have to consider...feels like that aspect has been happening more and more than in past seasons...
feel like going from a final two to a final three and then the fire thing brought this more into the equation.....it's pretty much a given that someone like Romeo will be sitting next to the final immunity winner while the other two more deserving players battle it out with fire.....think fire was introduced 6 years ago or something....didn't seem like taking the baby bird with you was exaggerated to the extent that it is now with the fire rule...

Have you watched Aussie? Not saying it doesn't happen there, but I feel like it's less and there are more players looking to go up against the best, rather than worst, at the end.

i want the absolute lamest ducks, the bleatingest goats, the wettest noodles up there next to me
the point is to win a million dollars. why bring competition for that if there's the option not to??
right and why my fandom has been decreasing pretty much every season....used to love the core dynamics of the show....now its all twists and making sure we make statements and whatever....
more and more feeling like I need to do the Aussie thing after reading the comments in here...will have to snag the HDMI I guess and visit the survivor facebook page....
I get it...believe me...they have pretty much shoved that mentality further and further in our face as each season happens....and have made it almost a "given" when it comes to the gameplay at this point....you have to have the skillset in your tool bag once it gets down to final 6-7 to drag obvious non winners to the final TC with you....the Lindsay's of the world have no chance if they have one hiccup late...
if Romeo doesn't win that last immunity....he 100% still gets saved by somebody's idol at the end and cakewalks...I mean runway walks... to the final 3....
if people are cool with that....so be it....it just doesn't put lead in the pencil at some point for true competitors....and it pretty much didn't used to be that way....sure you always wanted to think about who gives you the best chance at winning at the end.....but I don't remember it ever being THIS OBVIOUS that a guy like Romeo is your meal ticket....

Go back and watch again, Jeff fed the word aggressive to Drea through a question and she repeated it in her answer. Jeff was the one who first brought the word aggressive into the conversation.
......Drea was literally in the midst of cutting off Jonathon (again) and turned around looking and yelling at him when she said "don't make it seem like I'm being aggressive"....it wasn't "in an answer to a question from Jeff"....

The concept actually predates Survivor in the US. It began as a vehicle for MTV’s reality stars from The Real World and Road Rules to compete against each other. These days the MTV version includes people from reality franchises around the world.
CBS and MTV share the same corporate parent and this version consists of people from the CBS reality shows Survivor, Big Brother, The Amazing Race and Love Island. The season will have a male winner and a female winner, who will compete against winners from other countries on a subsequent series on Paramount Plus.
I’ve never seen the MTV version of the show, but my understanding is that it’s like Big Brother with more physicality. Everyone lives in a house together and competitions and social politics determine who will participate in an elimination challenge, the loser of which goes home.

It's good TV with great characters. As you said Big Brother with much more physicality, drama and hookups. Usually about 75% of the cast are returning veterans so lots of backstory dramas, relationships, backstabs, revenge driven stuff.
