Survivor Season 48 - Breaking In With a Crowbar (4 Viewers)

anyone notice Charlie with his stank face after votes were read and during the whole after show?....he was pissed and wouldn't even look at Maria...
I thought he was thoughtful and diplomatic when asked for reaction during the live broadcast... something to the effect of the jury is always right in their choice.

He only said that at the end.....after he pouted for 20 minutes
I'd have felt like I should win in his shoes and that Maria screwed me. So I cut him some slack.

I don't think he pouted at all. To me, he looked shell shocked that Maria stabbed him in the back like that. I would imagine the heartbreaking loss of being so close but coming up short would take more than a few minutes to process.

That said, Charlie's best hope was a tie and I don't know if Ben would have given it to him. 50/50 at best. And Charlie didn't help his own game by always letting other people shield him, even at the end he didn't stand up and take an active role in his own fate. Kenzie beat him there and that got her the win. He wasn't self-aware enough of how his game was coming across.

I think he just thought "how can Maria vote against her own game?" and didn't go any further, and took some jury members for granted.

Not saying that is inaccurate but I did not notice. He came off fine to me. Even if he did pout before being 100% class when speaking, I'm cutting him some slack on ability to hide whatever emotions he felt after losing $1Mil. Hard to sit in judgment on the emotions a human experiences in that position. He'd played a good if not great game.

I thought it was very noticeable - we talked about it while watching. He looked totally pissed. However, definitely understand why, and his recovery by the time they asked him about the jury vote was great.

Ben said in his exit interviews that he would have voted for Charlie on a tiebreaker.

The cast has been MESSY on social media since the finale (as was the case during the season). As you might expect, Venus is a big part of that.

Charlie said he cut ties with Maria not because she didn’t vote for him, but because she kept changing her explanation to him of why she did it.

Yeah, I read an interview with him (the interviews that are posted in the news section on Yahoo's front page) where he said she changed the reason for voting the way she did like three different times, and also said at one point that she regretted voting the way she did, and changed it to she would vote the same way again. :crazy:He said she should have just stuck with her original reason. If I were in his shoes, I would have been very disappointed that she didn't vote for me. They were #1 allies until they knew they had to get the other one out, and that is just good game play. It also isn't like they were both two tag-a-longs that were buddies, and she voted for the person that was deserving. Charlie was absolutely deserving of being voted the winner. I think he would have voted for her if the tables had been turned.

Anyway (and I'm sure Pip has read this), he mentioned that some of what he said to the jury was edited out, and I remember Soda's question being used as an example. Even though the viewers didn't hear it, the jury did, and they are the ones that matter. It seems a lot of them were on the fence on who to vote for.

Charlie was asked what were a couple things he wished were shown to the viewers. He mentioned three things. One was how close he and Ben's relationship was and is. He talked about some special things, and included that he was with Ben many times during his anxiety attacks, but it wasn't shown. He thinks a lot of Ben. Another thing he wishes was shown were some of his conversations with Tiff. He said she was awesome, and they had a fun Harry Potter alliance or something like that. Lastly, he said he wished it would have shown some of his fun conversations with Venus. He said they collaborated on a couple of votes, and she was a better game player than she was given credit for.

Maria's FTC vote is one of the most nonsensical in the history of the show. That being said, it's horrible that people have been sending her death threats and calling her workplace, because the world is unhinged.

I wonder if Q's rationale for how he voted will come back to bite him on his inevitable return appearance on season 50. If I'm a returnee and I'm playing with someone that admits that they based their vote to win exclusively based on factors that have nothing to do with the game, I'm doing my best to boot that person before the jury phase. (Of course, if they have Edge of Extinction on season 50, it won't matter, unless Q quits that like he tried to quit S46.)

That's terrible that people are threatening Maria. It's sad how acting horrible towards people has become an accepted action among so many people. Do you know what season 50 is?

All we know is that Jeff has confirmed that 50 will be a returnee season. What the specific theme/format will be, we don't know yet -- and I doubt planning on it will start until 47 and 48 are done filming.

In the event of a tie, Ben would’ve cast the final vote and shared with Paradehe would’ve chosen Charlie over Kenzie for the win. “Charlie was my day one. And you even see it before we get to the merge. That's when my physicality was starting to get rough. And he went and got water for me. We did play together,” Ben explained.

Kenzie's best plea to Ben in the event of a tie, with that big smile): 'You said you accidentally wrote my name down...Now it's time to prove that'

Stephen Fishbach made the interesting argument on the RHAP Know-It-Alls podcast that everyone in the finale was robbed in some way:

Maria was robbed because two people teamed up to ensure she wouldn't win the F5 immunity challenge.
Liz was robbed because she was going to give a very unique argument at FTC but the only person left at F4 who wanted her in the fire challenge was the one who won the final immunity challenge.
Ben was robbed because the jury refused to hear his case at FTC.
Charlie was robbed because he played the best strategic game but some of the jurors voted based on outside-the-game factors, including his #1 ally.
Kenzie was robbed because the way the vote went down, the focus has been on whether Charlie should have won instead of on how good of a game she played.

Kenzie was not robbed....she was the ROBBER....stole 1 million from Charlies pocket !!
She did better at the final tribal and she won more challenges. She was worthy of it. It would have sucked for her to tie and Ben votes Charlie as well.

Charlie (and Maria) were just lucky that the other tribes got stupid and ate their own. Still amazes me those idiots couldn’t see it so 5 of the 8 jurors were Nami and they lost that one guy to a medical issue saving Bhanu. Nami had the game and gave it away.

Nami is yet another example of how it's actually bad for a tribe not to go to tribal before the merge (see also Belo from 45). They never got to sort out their differences before being mixed with the other tribes, so they turned on each other and/or were unable to work together in the postmerge, which enabled others to run the game.

It was really shocking that they couldn’t even say hey let’s get to a point where we are the final 5 or at least where they had majority if they wanted to stay together and then go at it. It just made me laugh watching the jury and seeing that they had it dominated.

It's not that they couldn't, it's that they didn't want to, because they distrusted/hated each other. And they all (except maybe Hunter) had Main Character Syndrome and couldn't conceive that they also wouldn't survive the carnage.

Still amazes me how short sighted they were. None of them even had a next step, i.e. if I eat my own, who am I aligning with after that. They just blew it up.

They probably did, but the edit didn’t show it because the whole tribe imploded.

Tevin and Hunter were all about The Six. Hunter got close to Kenzie after Tevin was booted but was targeted because of his skill in challenges (which he made worse by revealing he had an idol).

Venus tried to work with several players, including Maria and Charlie, but everyone found her too blunt and offputting. Apparently she blabbed everything to everyone and no one trusted her after a while.

Soda’s plan was to get rid of Venus and then work with the rest of Nami, but she got blindsided at the beginning of the merge.

Liz was closer to Kenzie, Ben and Charlie than was shown in the edit. They made a final 4 alliance around the time of the Venus boot.

Filming of Season 3 of the Traitors is underway and the cast includes four Survivor alums: Tony, Carolyn, Jeremy and Boston Rob.

I guess B Rob wants to get in as many more reality show appearances as he can before his body gives out.

I know B Rob and Amber were on the amazing race and then he was on that deal or no deal island. Was he on anything else?

It was great watching Sandra and Parvati on season 2 of the traitors. I still crush on Parv but imagine she is a major PITA.

I’m so sick of seeing B Rob on things. Please go away!

He’s been on those celebrity renovation shows. I think that’s the only thing we didn’t mention.

Oh yeah, and CBS televised his and Amber’s wedding.

Rob also had a reality show on poker where he was learning to become a pro player, called Rob and Amber: Against the Odds. That show ended early when they got called for Amazing Race

Sweat vs. savvy is gone. Which is good, as that was getting played out and they're not gonna get better TV from it than what Jelinsky gave them on 46. And I think casts were starting to figure out that it's better to go without supplies for 3 days than to have two members of your tribe complete a strenuous task before the first immunity challenge.

It will be replaced by some other task with the same idea.

Bump for a new season. Several psuedo famous faces on this one, here's a link to the cast if you like to look at such things. Be careful talking about them though in case some don't want a spoiler of any kind.

Cast
I’ve never heard of any of them.
One of them is a psuedo famous podcaster on politics. The other is an esports commentator that I'm pretty sure I saw on the ESPN Ocho day :) Psuedo famous :)

We also have:

A podcaster for Rob Has a Podcast, a large network of reality TV podcasts (though the show identifies her by her day job, IT consultant).
A beat writer for the Titans.
A guy who hosted a radio show about the Ravens.
A marketing manager for the NFLPA.

I was really sorry to see him go, as I'm a big fan of Pod Save America. However, once he started scrambling for absolutely no reason, it was obvious what was going to happen (well, that and also the title of the episode, which was stupid of the show to use). Mr. krista even yelled at the TV, well before the vote, "Now we know why Hillary lost!" :lmao:

Yeah I thought they may have been using the title of the episode to throw us off, but by the time he said it and how he unnecessarily started shooting at imagined threats, it was pretty evident he was the target.

I know it is difficult to predict how people will perform under that pressure, but this continues a trend that makes me super uncomfortable. Andy is not emotionally well. I'm sure the show exacerbates it, but it even seemed how he talked about himself in the real world that he has some deep-seated issues. I hope he is ok but I also hope that he is gone relatively soon to prevent his suffering (and the viewers suffering from watching a train wreck).

Terrible decision by Rome to go at the beware advantage so publicly. It won't end well for him. A real lack of self awareness.

I think his name is Gabe on the blue tribe, and he handled the beware advantage only slightly better. He got caught acquiring a critical piece, and made up a story that TK clearly didn't believe. I do think he made a good decision on taking the 3 tribe idol. No reason to get greedy.

We saw most of the Gata yellow tribe, and I pretty much liked all the ladies plus the other guy who wasn't Jon or Andy. Very smart decision by him to go "Yea good plan" and then have no part of it. I would like to know who Andy voted for, I bet it was Annika. I'm not sure if the Survivor players know all the votes or only the ones that were shown.

On the blue tribe I really liked TK. I was impressed with the older lady and her ability to get through some of the challenges. No one else from Blue really stood out to me.

On Red I liked Sol, he said "let's go together to find him" as Rome hunted. Also performed really well in the challenge. I liked the fight that Aisha put up and was laughing as she tried to steal it from TK. Teeny is pretty good as well. Basically only Rome on that tribe did something really dumb.

Dude was laying there with medical basically pushing for them to say he couldn't go anymore. Weak.

Yeah, getting pretty tired of them casting 4 blubbering softies every year because they (for some reason) think the viewers enjoy watching total meltdowns.

I get it. Everyone has problems. Everyone has anxiety and we don't really know how we'd react when put in new situations. But when someone can't make it through one night camping on a TV show without a panic attack, it's irresponsible to put them through it for ratings.

You could drop the most troubled person I know into the middle of Ukraine and they'd handle it better than that clown dealt with a 10 minute long obstacle course.

Total joke. Nobody wants to see it.

Yeah, that was bad. My son was saying that he looked and acted like he was a school shooter. That evil glance he gave Annik (his target) really made me think he’d snap and honestly, what could the show folks do if he grabbed a rock or machete?

I’m sure I’m exaggerating but would it surprise anyone if we hear about an incident with a Survivor contestant in a couple years?

It’s one thing to cast that blonde who gave up because she was way too soft or the nerd who was awful at physical challenges and curled into a ball all the time. This guy is a leap to real unhealthy mental issues. That’s beyond the people who are just really annoying or are quitters.

When they showed us the teams for the first time I told my wife that the yellow team looked like the worst team again. Then they won the first challenge and I thought maybe not, oops.
I'm all for cast diversity but you don't need to include people who are on the edge of a nervous breakdown from day one to be diverse.

This is almost exactly what I said to Mr. krista last night. This trend needs to stop, and I also said I want him gone soon so that we don't have to watch his suffering. Gave me strong shades of Bhanu and how desperate I was to stop watching him break down every week.

Oooo, I hadn't thought of the school shooter vibe, but it seems spot on. Mr. krista said something really bad was going to happen, like he thought the guy was going to hurt someone, too. I told him nah, he's just going to quit. Turned out we were both wrong.

Yeah, he had an evil look on his face when Annik was talking after John asked him who he wanted to get rid of (Andy said Annik). There’s been tons of times people disliked other people and most times just kept it quiet but that look really struck me as a “hate” type look. I don’t think she ever said anything to him but IMHO, I could see Andy build up over time because she was the center of attention right at the start.

We could be wrong, but he just gives off bad vibes not just being insecure or anxious causing him to quit.

That guy's strikes me as being on the spectrum...with social anxiety and/or lack of social clues-awareness.

But sure... Evil.

Yep, that’s what we were saying, autism equals evil. I’ve never said anything like that in all of the Survivor history about anyone even the short fused nephew of Russell Hantz. That kid had a serious temper issue but it was a completely out in the open anger issue.

I said I could be wrong but his mood swings from happiest guy to be there to they wouldn’t clap for me were more than lack of social cues. He went from John being his best buddy to talking about throwing him under the bus. He never seemed to talk to Annik and sorry, his look when she talked to the group (right after he told John his target was her) was, sorry to say, off putting. I’ll stand by my evil look.

Also, just so you realize what I wrote. I didn’t call him evil or say he was going to shoot up a school. I called it an evil, hateful glance and he really seems to have some mental health issues beyond anxiety and lack of social cues.

I want them to play a game of Survivor now with no immunity challenges, or special things to win, advantages, reward challenges or any of those things. And don't tell the participants.

THAT's the game I want to see right now. Down and dirty without all the extra bs.
