T&P Please (1 Viewer)

Cancer is a battle for the entire family. So don't be too hard on yourself, and be sure to make time for yourself and for you and your wife. You need to stay replenished and strong (this is a marathon, not a sprint) and the only way you can do that is by taking care of yourself.

I am continuing to pray for you, Jack and your entire family.
Not sure I could add anything better than this.

GL GB...Kick ### Jack!

Cancer is a war.  Jacks young and strong and as equipped to fight it as anyone.  Continue to advocate for him, seek second opinions if necessary, and research yourself any kind of treatments that seem potentially beneficial.  T&Ps to Jack and your family.

Kee, I'm so sorry for the recent news. Not a lot I can say except I'm still thinking & praying for Jack. We're ALL thinking & praying for Jack.

As someone else said don't feel guilty about taking care of yourself. Jack & your family need you at your best & that means having to charge up your batteries now & again.

Continued T&P

So sorry to hear. Thinking of you and Jack and hoping for best possible outcome.

Feel however you need to feel but know you are doing right by him no matter what that is. And don't ever hesitate to ask for help from anyone.

Best of luck, GB.

Missed this thread first time around.

These  children illness threads leave me at a loss for words as I am not sure I would have the strength needed to get through this without losing my mind.

Just hope and pray you have the energy and strength to pass on to your son is this fight as he will need that and feed off of your emotions. I know it is so cliché but really this is a one day at a time ordeal.  Get through one and hope for the positive and then get through another and hope for the positive.  Hoping for the best for your son and your family.

Sorry for the lack of updates. A lot going on obviously... but I wanted to give a quick one.

Jack has had a rough month or so as he was going through both chemo (every week - sometimes 5 days a week) AND radiation (5 days a week for 4 weeks).  Biggest issue was his inability to stay hydrated (or nourished).  Had several overnight stays in ER to get IV fluids.  It was mostly due to the radiation as the field they were treating included most of his digestive tract.  Nausea and diarrhea were common.  Although the radiation oncologist (an absolute awesome guy) kept referring to Jack as "Lead Belly" because most people getting his dose would have been much worse off and not been able to continue.  Now done with the radiation, Jack is slowly returning to "normal"... although at 6' 125#, he needs a sandwich or 3.  It's tough to put/keep weight on as he's just not hungry.  His next set of scans are at the end of the month so we'll get an idea how he's truly progressing.

He also celebrated his 18th Birthday on Monday...

But the real reason for the update (getting dusty in here) is because a week and a half ago, Jack completed all of his college apps (FWIW, his essay was amazing if I do say so myself).  Today... just over a week after submitting them... he got accepted into MSU!  My 3rd Sparty (should he ultimately decide to go there).  Kid amazes me every single day.

Thanks for your continued T&Ps... we have a long road still ahead of us... but if anyone can do it, Jack can.

Congrats on the college acceptance!

And Happy Birthday!

And keep fighting Jack!  :boxing:

Probably is his top choice just because he's familiar with it, been there a million times, and a fan of their sports.  But was not early admission.  Also applied to Miami (my alma matter), Butler, GVSU, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt and Oakland.

Glad he's on the upswing after the rough treatment. Happy birthday Jack and congrats! And congrats to you Kee on raising one hell of a young man.

Way to go Jack! Very impressive, especially when dealing with chemo and rads fatigue.

His stomach will settle in time and taste will come back if he has the metallic taste going. Give foods he loves with plastic utensils. Helps with the metallic taste if he has it.

Great update! Praying scans are clear! Happy birthday! Xxx

Awesome awesome news Keerock.

Congrats on the MSU front and most important is that he continues the fight to recovery.

T&P to Jack! Keep going buddy!

Yeah... He's a Sparty at heart :D
My roommate from college was from Grand Haven. Went and spent 10 days with her between our sophomore and junior years. I lined up a job and everything trying to not go back home for the summer, but my parents wouldn't allow it.

Update on Jack:

Nearing the end of the initial chemo protocol... hard to believe he's been going through this for 40 weeks  Still tolerating well.  Once he finishes this last cycle they'll do scans and based on those results will recommend follow up treatments.  While this sounds like "good news", they are already planning to schedule radiation on his lungs to clean up the metastasized sites there. Please and thank you for continued T&P around scans and effectiveness of treatments over the last 9 months.

Jack continues to go to school to complete his senior year and anticipates graduating on time with the rest of his class.  He only is able to go 2-3 days per week due to the chemo schedule, but he's getting it done.  The plan is to go to MSU in the fall should any additional treatments allow. Unfortunately, his social life has all but gone away.  He was never a "go out every night" kid, but he's lost most contact with his friends... breaks my heart.

Was just thinking of you and Jack the other day hoping all is going well Kee. Continued positive vibes and prayers for your family.

Praying for continued progress. Awesome that it looks like he'll still graduate on time!

Thanks for the update. Continued ts and ps for a life long remission and success for all his sweet heart desires. Xxx

T&P for your son.  As far as the social life, I see the same thing with my wife who has been ill for some time.  It usually comes down to us to play cruise director and schedule the night out with someone.
