TE Brock Bowers, LV (3 Viewers)

Anobody watching this game, please keep us updated if he comes back or not.
Knee injury. Non-contact. Confirmed out.

Nothing about it sounds good.
I'm watching live, didn't hear that update.

Link?
I don't have a link. Announcers said he wasn't coming back.
Not their opinion. They were reporting what they heard from a team source.

Maybe I heard wrong. I was responding to MrSoup asking from the game perspective.
He hasn't been back so, seems accurate.

I’d imagine a big part of that equation is they were up 10 with just a few minutes left. No reason to risk it even if it’s minor.
Either way, let's all cross our fingers.

Brock Bowers caught 5-of-8 targets for 103 yards in the Raiders’ Week 1 victory over the Patriots before departing with a knee injury.

Bowers was announced as questionable in the fourth quarter and never returned. He was spotted on the sideline with his helmet on, which could be an indication he avoided major injury. After a puzzling early snap rotation with Michael Mayer and Ian Thomas, Bowers was gobbling up far more work in the second half. His highlight was a 38-yard catch-and-run over the middle of the field. For now, we would consider Bowers genuinely questionable for Week 2 against the Chargers, albeit with a solid chance of playing. He could require testing, however.

I wonder if that hit on his hip/leg just hit a nerve and made him lose feeling or function for a short amount of time. I’ve seen guys get hit with leg kicks in MMA and if it hits just right on a nerve, the leg will go dead.

Raiders coach Pete Carroll said Brock Bowers (knee) is “day to day.”
Carroll admitting that anything is wrong should be a warning sign for fantasy managers, as he’s always supremely optimistic on injuries. Bowers’ practice status will be a major news story for the week ahead. We wouldn’t be surprised if he missed Week 2, but at the very least we expect the Raiders to take it easy on him in practice ahead of their game against the Chargers.

I thought the expectation is him not missing time

How did you come up with “non contact”? He was hit hard a few plays prior.
Nobody knew he was hit in the knee , the highlight of him looking hurt was after running and just started limping .
They showed highlight of the hit around the same time he went into tent. It’s all good.

Anyone know if Bowers practiced today?

With the Raiders playing Monday night, us Bowers owners will have to waste a roster spot on Michael Mayer this weekend if Bowers is banged up. 🤬

Not sure but am anxiously watching.
But can Bowers also get a clutch hit? If so the Padres are in serious need.

Per Rotoworld:

Bowers is “hoping to play” in Week 2 against the Chargers, but said that “we’ll see how it’s feeling throughout the week.” The Raiders are understandably giving Bowers an extra day off, with this week’s game scheduled for Monday night. The elite TE1’s practice participation on Friday and Saturday can tell us far more about his availability than today’s absence. In the meantime, for those who currently have Bowers in their starting lineup, stashing No. 2 TE Michael Mayer on fantasy benches is worthwhile. In Week 1, Bowers landed hard on his left knee after taking a hit to the right knee while running along the sideline. He was later seen limping with his left leg, and sported a sleeve on the left leg at today’s practice. It appears as though the fall was more of an issue than the direct hit.

Raiders TE Brock Bowers (knee) was not seen practicing on Friday.
Bowers instead stood off to the side, again wearing a black sleeve on his left leg. The young tight end is talented enough that he probably does not need to practice in order to play, but we would have liked to have seen him practicing in some capacity today. Saints TE Juwan Johnson and Browns TE Harold Fannin Jr. were likely already nabbed off waivers this week. If they remain available, pick them up immediately. Raiders backup TE Michael Mayer is TE1-viable if Bowers cannot play on Monday night. Mayer caught 4-of-4 targets for 38 yards in Week 1.

I can’t vouch for this guy, but he suspects a PCL sprain. If accurate, we could be looking at a multiple week absence.

typically a pain tolerance thing, no?

It's typically going to sideline a player at least 4-6 weeks and put them on short term IR.

I don't see him playing this week and the Raiders are most likely playing gamesmanship right now. But if they don't put him on IR before the game on Monday I'm going to be inclined to think it's not a PCL. But I would add I think it may be and am not going to be surprised if we hear he's heading to IR in the next day or so. 🤞

Is that like an initial swelling/healing after injury?

Sorry I have a torn PCL and was told surgery is only for comfort/stop swelling post activity otherwise I am fine.

Sorry for your torn PCL and think so. Depends on the grade strain but like a grade 1 you'd handle similar to a sprained ankle. RICE, therapy, maybe some drugs, etc.etc.

Surgery is typically only an option for higher grade strains and that would be a gut punch as it relates to Bowers.

He's still standing around during practice, wasn't put on PUP so it might be a week or 2. Just worried he goes out there hurt and really messed it up

I spent good chunk of my wad on Fannin n JJ and I'm starting them both. I don't think Bowers makes it through the game. I'd rather have him sit.

Raiders seem to be a team on the rise. I think they play it smart and take precautions with Bowers and sit him this week.
No need to risk losing your teams stud TE for multiple games. MM is a very capable backup. I hope he sits.

I picked up Mayer (dropped hurt Goedert) so I at least have a decent Monday night option. Want to give Bowers every chance to play in my lineup, he’s far too valuable to not.

That’s a huge relief. But, the knee brace and the talk of a PCL sprain has me spooked. So, I’m keeping Mayer on my roster.

Where is the talk of a PCL sprain?
That’s the prognosis from some of the fantasy football medical analysts. I posted an example above. But, here’s another one from David Chao.

Pete Carroll said #BrockBowers wanted to return to game but medical said "no"Fits our mild PCL sprain thoughts

During this clip, he seems to suggest that you can play through a low grade PCL sprain. But, I’m not sure about the risk of aggravation, as I’m not a doctor.

Of course, these fantasy docs may be wrong, and Bowers could be totally fine.

I wonder what his snap count looks like. I could imagine we see even more Mayer.
That is a good point. He may play….a little…
I would think he would at least be in on high leverage situations like red zone but you never know. Could be anything from 100% full go to total decoy.

Bowers was not exactly sounding like someone brimming with confidence he would play, to say nothing of his normal snaps.

I got a Kittle/Goedert/Theo Johnson team that I picked up Mayer on. Still might go with him over Theo even if Bowers is a lock to play.

Theo looked rough week one, a bit disappointing after showing some promise last year….cannot blame you on that one.

Other than Jimmy Graham, Wilson has never really targeted TEs. And even Graham wasn't great with him.

Hopefully Dart is starting soon. Actually like Theo

Yeah Graham to Seattle was definitely a downgrade.

What little I saw Theo dropped two easy balls last week.
