TE Kyle Pitts, ATL (1 Viewer)

Not watching the games, but some ATL fans are saying he doesn't look the same since his knee injury (MCL and PCL surgery in 2022).

We're so spoiled by people like McGahee and Chubb returning to prominence that we forget not everyone makes it back.

Not to totally derail this thread, but Trent Richardson had two knee surgeries in 2012 (before and after his rookie season).

Sometimes these little injuries can sap players of athleticism, and the NFL is not very forgiving once a player loses a step.

Pitts also had a nightmare concussion in college, which always makes me leery after living through Jahvid Best.

Just spitballing here, but this stuff can partially explain the nonexistent separation and the poor contested catch results.

made a claim for a TE this week. Hoping to rid myself of this headache. Thought playing with a vet QB would unlike the (perceived talent) but he's just not it.

Even if he has a breakout game (or even two), what confidence will you have that he's routinely startable in most FF leagues?

He's been in the league for 4 years now, and every year we hear, "THIS IS THE YEAR! HE'S GONNA' BLOW UP!". And every year he turns into a turd.

I can't think of any other TE where the hype is so wildly out of proportion with his yearly performance.
Ladarius Green, maybe.
Jermichael "Bump Finley" Finley?
He wishes he was Finley
Pitts probably passes Finley for career yards before he turns 25, so I think that's probably a tad unfair.

Kraft got scooped up and the best available guy is Taysom Hill. I have Hockenson coming off IR soon but would you drop Pitts for Hill, or sadly roll with KP for another two weeks?

As bad as it’s been with Pitts, it’s not like we’re getting crushed at the position. The position is a wasteland. No one is lighting it up. Who do you want instead? Not saying Pitts is the best by any stretch. But there are guys ahead of him pts wise that got all their pts in one game. Likely. Goedart. Of course I’d trade Pitts for LaPorta etc. But the margin of separation at the position is insignificant.

Very strange season for the TE position for sure. Not sure what has caused it.
Defenses putting more focus on stopping the TE?
Elite pass rushing causing the TE to have to stay in and block?
Has the TE class just really dropped off talent wise?

Just dropped Pitts for Kmet and my opponent this week immediately picked Pitts up and is starting him tonight to cover LaPorta's bye week. This should be fun.

I think it's due to a shift to defenses selling out to stop the passing game and TE's are not creating mismatches right now. Teams are treating them more like WR's and employing personnel packages as such and basically daring you to run.

As mentioned it's been bad for all of them this year and the rare exception like Goedert was because they were forced to utilize him. But I think it's been especially negative for the more hybrid/pass catching TE like Pitts and Kincaid. Both have them have seen their route participation decrease from week one, neither of them ranked in the top 10 last week in terms of route participation for TE's.

I've been theorizing that until this trend stops that TE's with strong all around skill sets as blockers and pass catchers should be better off. Kittle being one but he's been injured. Goedert is another one and he is course TE1, we just don't know how that would have looked with healthy WR's.

This is also why think Erick All is extremely intriguing for dynasty but this is not his thread.

You already know Pitts will have an elite game tonight then. That's just how the fantasy world works baby.
Also as discussed up thread I just traded him and I'm about as unlucky and ill-timed as it gets in fantasy. Meanwhile the guy I traded him to, did a deal for Swift last week that was pretty much universally thought of as him losing and then Swift goes nuts.

Add in the public cries to see him involved.

It's a perfect storm.

I've had him in my dynasty league since his rookie season and every time I bench him for another TE, he outscores the TE I replaced him with. In some cases I would've won my matchup had I started Pitts that week (I'm looking at you, Hunter Henry in Week 5 last year). Nothing gets me angrier than that.

As an aside, it's weird how clearly we remember specific things that burned us, but the memory isn't as clear when it benefits us. I remember Derrick Mason catching a 4th quarter TD in week 16 nearly 20 years ago to cause me to lose a title by 2.8 points. I won the title the next year and couldn't name a single player or game from that season. But I'll never forget Mason's TD catch.

Last dance for Pitts and me. Drafted him in 3 of 6 leagues and was cut in 1 already. Benched him for Tyler F'N Conklin in another but he us out there in 1 league tonight and if he disappears again, he'll make the choice easy for me.

So much wasted potential.

It's true. Granted I have a few times where I remember a game-winning decision but the losing ones stick with me more. Bill Simmons once said something to the effect of "losing hurts more than winning feels good" and I think it holds true. I think it's part of the defense mechanism of the mind, remembering negative things. You climb a tree successfully 100 times but you fall down a tree once and you might be afraid of ever climbing a tree again. Same applies in fantasy: you set your lineup optimally and win your matchup and you don't think much of it because that was the intended result, but lose a matchup because of it and you'll second-guess yourself. That's what happened to me last week with benching Kenneth Walker. If I miss the playoffs in my league by one game, that's going to be the move that haunts me. Though on the topic of Pitts, he did win me a matchup recently with a late 4th quarter catch in the Falcons/Eagles game. I remember that fondly, and it's good to be reminded that luck in fantasy football can swing both ways.

Stopping by to check in on who is still holding onto these worthless shares here. Emancipate yourselves from the torture, fellas. I did it this week and it was liberating!

In my Yahoo league, I picked up and am starting Tucker Kraft. Pitts is sitting on my bench and if he has a great game, I'll try to trade him. If he rolls out another dud, he'll be dropped for some RB upside stash immediately after the game or first thing in the AM.
