Terrence Kiel dead in car crash (1 Viewer)

One of the few picks Smith whiffed on, and it had more to do with him not having his head screwed on than talent. Hopefully he is going to a better place.

Yes. You didn't see Kansas City making a trade for Chris Chambers mid-season did you?
They probably should have. A.J. making that deal was not a reflection on Davis, except for the fact that he was hurt. The Chargers also acquired Unitas after they drafted Fouts. I guess Fouts was a bust also.

You forgot Craig "BUST-er" Davis.
Wow... one season where he had some injuries and you're ready to write off his entire career?

Is this thread really the place for this discussion? Sad story.

There's a clear reason why Bowe was drafted ahead of Davis, and why Davis was considered a reach.

Yeah, unfortunate mishap. But Kiel was of his own demise. I'd rather honor fallen soldiers in Iraq personally. I'm just glad Kiel didn't also kill some innocent people with his wreckless driving.

Oh, so he's a bust for his entire career because he was drafted after Bowe, had some injuries during his only year in the league, and his GM had an opportunity to bring a veteran presence to the WR unit. This all makes complete sense now. We can move along.

I'm sorry you have Craig Davis on your dynasty roster. No amount of hope on your part changes the fact he was viewed as a disappointment by the SD staff.

RIP

We had an alcohol ban on all but 2 beaches in the entire county yesterday. It was sad to wake up to this news.

From a San Diego Resident and Bolt Fan.

Kiel was involved in the cough syrup scandal. Drugs and alcohol may have been involved, but that has not been confirmed. Sad story.
Frankly there are truckloads of much sadder and less deserving fatalities (not saying he deserved it per se) that no one ever chatters about on message boards or gets boo-hoo about, and I'm kinda tired of someone who in some way or other "asks for it" and gets it that tons of strangers wear a frowny face about while plenty of law-abiding, hard-working people who didn't have near the advantages or opportunities he did in front of them die w/o all the ballyhoo (the soldier example was an excellent one).

OKThis is a football website. It is sad that the guy couldn't get his act together and use his athletic ability. Thanks for turning this into something other than a post about a football player that has died.

I agree with you on this.
That precisely the problem. His driving WASN'T wreckless.
The original report had him driving down the street the wrong direction. I haven't read any updates to see if that has changed, but that original report seemed like he might have been a little reckless. Or were you playing on the word "wreck' less?
Friends had tried to keep Kiel from driving home from the party, Hayward said, and witnesses told police he appeared to be driving in the wrong direction when he crashed.

I had never heard of him before SD drafted him but since then his life had some strange turns;

- 2003 shot 3 times in a mall parking lot

- 2006 arrested on the practice field for shipping codeine-based cough syrup to Texas

- 2007 public urination(not as big a deal as the others but I never really understand this... why?)

- 2008 killed in auto accident driving the wrong way

RIP but I'm just glad he didn't take anyone(passengers/drivers driving the right way down the street) with him.

Thx for driving my point home.

He had some large gambling debts. He was trying to earn extra cash by shipping prescription cough syrup (probably obtained in Mexico) to Texas where it is mixed with other substances and taken as an expensive recreational drug.

Good column on Terrence Kiel today: SignOnSanDiego.com

Terrence Kiel's last hit was a hard one. The former Chargers strong safety took out some small trees along Stonebridge Parkway before he smashed into the wall and fatally flipped his supercharged Chevy on the embankment behind Alsup's home Friday night.

Kiel's path was marked yesterday morning with yellow paint, along the road and across the adjoining sidewalk. He had come through the sharp curve at the bottom of the hill, but the paint told of problems on the straight, steep grade toward the next intersection, Stockwood Cove.

At Point A, Kiel would have been hugging the center divide. By Point A8, perhaps 40 paces away, he had hopped the curb and nearly crossed the sidewalk. From there, his path was marked by snapped branches, dislodged dirt, shattered glass, strewn cinderblocks and the remnants the police left behind
