Have you made a list somewhere of movies you like? This movie sucks. Should have had it on my over rated list17. The Truman Show (1998)
Directed by: Peter Weir
Starring: Jim Carrey, Ed Harris, Laura Linney
Synopsis: A man is unaware that his entire life is a “reality” TV show.
We accept the reality of the world with which we’re presented, it’s as simple as that- Ed Harris as Christo.
An extremely thoughtful film, filled with great ideas, and predicting with scary accuracy the future of reality TV. It’s actually one of two films in this top 20 that focus on the power of television.
Great acting, great narrative, great suspense (especially towards the end) and some good humor as well (I love the little touch where Roland Emmerich’s character always shows up with an open six pack of beer- great stuff.)
I couldn't remember if it was on ours- looks like you had it 22, and i had it in the 40s.I am more on Tim’s side. Great movie and extremely prescient.
It's a nice movie.![]()

Yep!!!!If I had a nickel for every time I saw The People vs. Larry Flynt pop up in a top 20 list of movies from the 90's...I'd have no nickels.

I’m not sure brain cancer and thyroid cancer can really be traced their movie watching. Maybe if they had heart disease or something.I'll be releasing Siskel and Eberts' top 10 movies of each year in the 90s when this is over. Curious to see how many are on here and how many Tim missed according to 2 dead guys from Chicago.
By the way, the fact that both those guys died super young makes me wonder how healthy it is for a human to watch this many movies.

Snatch
Star Wars episode 3
Major league
Christmas vacation
Predator is pretty damn good
Seems we agree on these directors, but not the above movies, thanks. Have you seen Nosferatu?Nolan
Fincher
Tarantino
Vilaneuve
Kubrick
PTA
Cohens
Spielberg
Scorsese
Solondz
Del toro
Arranovsky
Eggars
Most of their stuff is good
Sorry if spellings off I’m pretty baked and watching another tik tik recommendation HOBO Family or something
And to the other extreme, I've only seen 11 of the movies unveiled thus far.Anytime I really like a movie….like really really like……I see it again plenty. Most of those I’m not surprised by The Witches was pretty big at least to kids and I would think adults with kids. That movie scared the crap out of me. I think they recently did a remake of it. The Player is just perfect though. It’s very much locked into its early 90s Hollywood world but it still works perfectly imo. The cameos are incredible, Bruce Willis, Julia Robert’s, Nick Nolte,Cher, Johh Cusack, Jeff Goldblum, Burt Reynolds, etc. - they totally immerse you into the idea that this is really Hollywood even while being so ridiculous it couldn’t be. Or could it?Looking at the full list so far, here are the ones that I have no memory of:
93. Guilty By Suspicion
92. The Commitments
88. Defending Your Life
87. Reversal of Fortune
77. Crumb
68. The Witches
64. Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert
35. The Player
I remember really liking The Player but haven't seen it since I watched it in '92. Would like to watch this one again.
If you have not seen it in 33 years……how good could have it been?
Obviously not top 100 in the 90’s for you.
Nowhere for me.Truman show is like 30's maybe.
It’s cheesy as hell but that final battle with Kenobi and Anakin isWhy Ep 3?Not even 5-10 favorites quick? Not sure I can work on oneHave you made a list somewhere of movies you like? This movie sucks. Should have had it on my over rated list17. The Truman Show (1998)

This is why I still come here. That was some great information that I never heard about. Thanks for sharing.I went to High School with a kid named David Cox. He was in the same grade as me. After he graduated high school he went into the Marines. He was eventually stationed at Guantanamo Bay.
It was his direct group that got caught up in the code red. In the real instance, the marine they terrorized did not die but was severely injured. The group who hazed, including Cox, all got court martialed. All but three of the marines took a plea and left with a dishonorable discharge. Cox and two others went through with the full court case and were able to prove they were following orders. He was convicted of simple assault but was allowed to stay in the marines.
Aaron Sorkin obtained the court records from which he then wrote A Few Good Men even though he and the film company have denied that this was based on a true story.
Many years later, when the movie came out, Cox was out of the marines and back living here in Mass and was very upset because the character of Louden Downy (the dumb white hick) seemed to be loosely based on him. He got upset enough to publicly declare he was going to sue Castle Rock Entertainment.
A few months later in January, he went missing. Months later in April, his body was found after the snow had melted. He had been murdered by 4 gun shot wounds. One to the back of his neck, and three to his torso. The extra interesting part was what he was wearing which was his marine jacket, which his family said he never wore even once after he got out of the marines years earlier.
The murder has never been solved even after the tv show Unsolved Murders featured his demise.
In the '80s one of our UHF stations played reruns of a show called Carter Country that I would watch occasionally. I remember thinking then that the guy who played the mayor looked a lot like Jerry Falwell. Fast forward 15 years and he IS playing Jerry Falwell. All I remember is Courtney Loves ragged muff and the Jerry Falwell courtroom scene
He's always had strange crushes, Ryder, Kim Zimeskal, Jen Psaki.

Either way it belongs.I can't leave of a movie I think is above average off my list of 100 favorite movies? Ilov80s had it on his rankings.
To be clear, if we had been doing top "80s" movies, it would have been on my list.

You are much more into films than I am, and I appreciate your opinions on them more than I do my own. I just can't see Raiders being left out of a Top 100 by anyone (and it's not close to my favorite film). I guess that's a "me" thing and I hope I didn't offend.
I guess the issue is that you have bad taste when it comes to that movie, not that you need to make things up to impress the audience.Got it. I will start listing movies I don't like to impress the FFA for the next one.![]()
