Well in the post game news conference after the debacle on Sunday, Coughlin talked about how the Giants didn't seize on many opportunities to win. The only thing he specifically mentioned (didn't bring up his horrific three runs from the shotgun from 1st and goal on the 4 and not letting his $100 million QB who was completing almost 3/4 of his passes on Sunday win the friggin' gameHe says his knee is fine, but Adam Caplan is reporting via twitter that the NYG brought in two kickers for workouts. He is the second highest scoring kicker in my league. What s going on here?
from herman's blog:
One of the more talked about kicks from Sunday's games has been Lawrence Tynes' non-kick. The Giants were attempting a 38 yard field goal on their opening possession, however Tynes aborted the kick in progress when he saw that Jeff Feagles was having trouble with the hold.
Tynes commented afterwards:
"As he [Feagles] was bringing the ball around I saw it drop out of his hands. He had two hands on it, so it was either kick both hands, or stop. It’s even more frustrating when you lose by one point.... He kind of double-caught it and I didn't feel like I could make the kick, so I pulled out. It wasn't terrible, but it was enough to pull me off. I may have been a little quick to it, but I just didn't feel like I could make the kick."
The obvious hindsight question is whether Tynes should have carried through with the kick. Giants head coach Tom Coughlin doesn't think so:
"No. The way that came about - if you remember it was out a ways - it wasn't like an extra point where you could hold and then just swing without any momentum. It wasn't going to be one of those deals because of the distance and because you have to strike the ball properly to get it up over the rush in the first place. So that was not the case last night, no."
I cut him last weekend for Folk. Might pick him up again next week but since he's at the top of all kickers in points i bet he goes before I can get him back, which is okay if you look at his last 3 weeks of production. In fact all Giants have been declining.I would trade for Akers if I could figure out a way.You know who else might finish strong?- Rackers with the Cards' schedule and Viantieri when he comes back.Is this one of those rare cases where it might be worth it to hold a kicker through his bye? His production seems to be sliding a bit.
Anyone care to comment? I just picked up Carney to cover his bye and wonder should I try to hold on to Tynes? I have Brees too so that's a nice one too punch of Carney/Brees.Is Tynes still the best kicker to have for the FF Playoffs?I've seen some people dropping him due to the bye week
My rough projection numbers at this juncture show good matchups for Tynes in weeks 14 and 15, but not so good in week 16.the spanker said:Anyone care to comment? so who is their kicker now?As expected, the Ravens have released Steve Hauschka
Billy Cundiff and Mike Nugent are presumed to be frontrunners, as both worked out for the Ravens last week.so who is their kicker now?As expected, the Ravens have released Steve Hauschka
The Ravens officially waived kicker Steve Hauschka after he missed his fourth field goal of the season in a 16-0 win over the Cleveland Browns Monday night.
Hauschka, who was in his second year out of North Carolina State, sailed a 36-yard attempt just past the left upright at Cleveland Browns Stadium in front of a national "Monday Night Football" audience.
It came at a time when the score was knotted at 0-0, cancelling out a promising 12-play drive for Baltimore's offense.
"We entered the season knowing that we would have to go through some growing pains with Steve," said Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome. "That happens with most new kickers in the NFL. But, for where we are as a team today, we need more consistent production from our kicker. Every one of our players has to step up to a Ravens' level of play and that was not happening for Steve right now."
After missing a 41-yard field goal in the Ravens' season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs, Hauschka went on to miss three consecutive high-pressure kicks.
The first was a 44-yard field goal that could have won a game against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6. His botched 38-yarder on Nov. 8 could have kept a 17-7 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals closer.
Hauschka's performance in Cleveland proved to be the final straw. Even though he rebounded to nail a 44-yard field goal in the third quarter, Hauschka also had an extra point blocked on what seemed to be a low kick.
linkHarbaugh said the Ravens wouldn't try out any additional kickers, which means the decision will likely come down to Nugent and Cundiff.
I thought moorehead was going to kick long FGs anyway?bushisdaman said:The Saints were in field goal range at the end of their last drive against the Rams, instead of sending Carney out to kick, they went for it on 4th down. It nearly cost the Saints the game. Carney was not too happy about it either. The thing is, there is starting to be signs that the Saints do not trust Carney in critical situations that involve a long FG. This might be an open door for Hartley sooner rather than later.
I'd be surprised if he was. The Saints haven't shown any indication yet they want to have two active kickers on game days nor have they shown any indication yet they are going to replace Carney.Hartley going to be active this week?
IIRC, they passed on TWO potential FG's. They've done this quite a bit this year and I'm none too happy about it (Carney owner). Cost me a win this week.bushisdaman said:The Saints were in field goal range at the end of their last drive against the Rams, instead of sending Carney out to kick, they went for it on 4th down.
