****The 2019 Carolina Panthers Thread**** We Rhule At Losing (2 Viewers)

There seems to be talk now that maybe both CM and LF are gone before 8 so that means a top notch defensive player slides or we can trade with someone who wants a top QB.  If not take whoever is left between LF or Cmac
If both of them are gone I would be elated if Jamal Adams were available and we took him.  I think he will be a star and have immediate impact on whatever team lands him.

Well, I know DG loves his defensive linemen, and Allen would probably be the pick should he be there.  I just like Adams more than Allen.

I think we'll see a safety picked just not thinking that high. Plus I don't think Adams gets to us.

For the last couple of seasons we've (at least I have) been wondering where any type of screen game had gone.  Fozzy had a couple of moments over a 3 year span but it is exciting to think how Christian would be with the ball in the open field (providing CMac is the pick tomorrow).  Cam never was that good at checking down to the RB for a release valve... maybe that'll change if McCaffrey is on the field.  Also good point about his velocity after the shoulder surgery.
If Cam's velocity is gone then he's toast as a franchise QB.

Well we know that pitchers who have this surgery their velocity goes down until they are rehabbed completely. And even then for some it never comes back. Cam is going to have to change his motion and it remains to be seen how much velocity he'll get back right away. Doesn't mean it's gone forever but it may take a while to get it back fully.

Been away for a while, but I just find it really hard to believe GMan would pass on Allen, Barnett, or if craziness happened and Solomon Thomas slid, to draft a RB. I just can't see that when the DE rotation currently consists of a part timer who became their best pass rusher, a 33(?) YO Charles Johnson, a 36(?) YO Peppers, and Wes Horton and Delaire.

GMan was with the Giants when they won a super bowl with dline pressure. It's the model of his teams to crush the pocket with the front four. The DT rotation is among the best in the game. The DE rotation?  Not so much. An SEC DPOY in Allen would not only be a tremendous value, he'd fit perfectly with this roster with his ability to play DE and also kick inside on passing situations (Thomas as well -- I'd love either).  If both are gone, Barnett still feels like a better fit to me than a RB.

Also, I don't think I heard Benjamin mentioned at all before Carolina took him, and he was the target all along, apparently. I don't recall anyone talking about Shaq Thompson until Bill Voth called it the day of the draft. And I don't recall anyone talking about Vernon Butler at all. Now we're supposed to believe that the GMan organizational philosophy (build the lines) is out the window AND the team is now an open book on their draft intentions?  I'm skeptical that's the case.

Yeah there is no way he'd pass on Thomas IMO. And really I like some second round RBs that should be available barring a run on them.

OK, so the what about stud defensive player and then trading up to 20th for Cook or Fournette if he slides?

Here's our offensive prospects that we've had in for visits in the late 1st to late 2nd to give you an idea of who we might trade up for or stick at 40/64 for:

TE: Njoku (likely have to trade up a bit from 40), Engram (stick)

RB: McCaffery (yes, I think he could slide a bit, but still trade up from 40), Kamara (stick, could be 64)

WR: Zay Jones (stick, maybe 64), Godwin (stick), John Ross (stick, I think he falls with the bad medical reports), Samuel (stick, likely 64), Henderson (stick at 64)

OT: Bolles (trade up from 40, maybe?), Lamp (trade up from 40), Dion Dawkins (stick at 64), Taylor Moton (stick at 64)

I didn't put Howard in here, because I don't think he'll fall enough for us to be able to trade up without blowing a 1st next year. From Gettleman's presser he was legitimately excited about his picks in the top 100, so I think we stick where we are or move up a bit using later round (4+) picks to move up a little. As you can see, this is just offense and there are a bunch of prospects we seem to like without trading at all.

Fournette and Thomas would be an extremely difficult call for me. On the one hand, I love Thomas and we need young blood there. On the other, if Fournette plays well, he helps the offense and the defense. I think there are a lot of DEs with potentially after the 1st, but unlike you, I don't like any of the 2nd round+ RBs anywhere near Fournette.

Well I'm not sold on Fournette and I really like Kamara. I also don't think Fournette gets to us at this point.

From the Bleacher Report

Dave Gettleman is a 66-year-old who was the head coach of a high school football team in 1973. Dave Gettleman builds the Carolina Panthers like a 66-year-old who was the head coach of a high school football team in 1973.

In the first four rounds of the draft, he has picked line-of-scrimmage players and unathletic defensive backs in volume. He also drafted Kelvin Benjamin, Kony Ealy and Devin Funchess—players who play premium-athleticism positions without premium athleticism.

His starting linebackers are all former first-round picks. He didn't draft them all, but he's taken it upon himself to re-up their deals while letting players like Josh Norman walk. On Sundays, the Panthers use tight ends in extra protection to try to get the ball to their big wideout targets when they aren't trying to run power plays on the ground.

They say the NFL has ebbs and flows and that the league will turn into a running one again soon, and it seems like Gettleman has been expecting that trend to swing his way for years now. If a player is better suited for the 1980s NFL than the 2010s NFL, he's the type of guy who ends up in Carolina.

LSU's Leonard Fournette, a one- or two-down running back, and Alabama's O.J. Howard, who was used mostly as a blocking tight end, would make sense on offense. Tennessee's Derek Barnett and Michigan's Taco Charlton, two big-school defensive linemen who lack the athleticism of stud first-round pass-rushers, would make sense on defense.

No way 4net slides to 20.  But Cook might be available around that spot.  I would love to get Adams/Thomas/Barnett and then trade up a little and grab Cook.  That would be lovely.

Happy with the pick.  Can't wait to see cmac in the open field.  Little surprised getts didn't take Allen there.  Guess the shoulder was an issue.

To hear them tell it they were set on McCaffrey. Claiming they turned down some offers to move back. So the official story is this was always our guy.

They always say they turned down offers.  Not buying it when they always pick almost immediately.

Not liking the look of the board for our next pick.

15. Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama
25. Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State
27. Quincy Wilson, CB, Florida
28. Kevin King, CB, Washington

32. Chidobe Awuzie, CB, Colorado
33. DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame
35. Curtis Samuel, RB, Ohio State
36. JuJu Smith-Schuster, WR, USC
38. Marcus Williams, S, Utah
39. Josh Jones, S, North Carolina State
40. Jordan Willis, DE, Kansas State

41. Forrest Lamp, G, Western Kentucky

^lots of good options on that list.   Could go a bunch of ways.
We really don't need a QB, RB, or CB which are mostly the bpa.

Would love for Robinson to drop, but I suspect he'll be long gone.  ok for us to give up a fourth to move up for him IMO.

I'd like Robinson to fall as well, but don't see it happening.  I could see them going safety in round 2 or maybe a DE (Wormley or Willis?) but I wouldn't mind seeing Zay Jones named called.  Might could even trade back a few and pick up another pick and still get him.

Also wouldn't mind jumping up a few to get Robinson.

I like wilson and juju a lot but yeah not a position of need.

I wouldnt even mind snagging Dalvin if he falls.  I mean if he is the bpa on our board why not?  The offense would be sick.
