****The 2019 Carolina Panthers Thread**** We Rhule At Losing (1 Viewer)

3 billion will be the going rate IMO.  The stadium just had a face life to take them into the next decade.  Will be really interesting to see what groups or individuals step up trying to buy the franchise.

2 things for sure, they arent leaving Charlotte and Hurney is a dead man walking

When first saw the Richardson statue outside the stadium I thought, wtf?  Looks like Saddam Hussein when they jerked down his statue in Baghdad.  It'll be nice to get rid of that cheesy/creepy piece of crap.

I have a few dollars saved back.  Wish they'd let me buy this team.

That was a great win yesterday.  Question:  what are we going to do at WR?  Bird deserves a chance to start, maybe in the slot.  But we need a play maker out there.  Wish Cincy would reboot with their new coach and trade AJ Green.  Love for them to bring him back home.  Martavis Bryant.  Amari Cooper.  Impact guy.  Somebody.

psst, Christian..  hey, great game.  Next time don't let the onside kick take that second bounce.  When it bounces high the first time, run up and catch it.  Thanks.

t was a good win and yeah it will be overshadowed by creepy old guy.
Not surprised by the accusations but I am shocked he didn't go down without a fight. Good win and the playoffs will be interesting.
It is hard to picture Richardson coming on to someone. To me, he always came across as a grumpy old fella with a perpetual scowl on his face. Maybe his wife told him to sell the team or she will take him to the cleaners.

You think so?  I don't think so at all ...

To me, JR has always been kind of a jerk to me.  I lost a lot of respect for him during the lockout with how callously he treated players as if he, as an NFL owner, wasn't making money hand over fist.  I've thought he was the biggest problem in the organization for years ... thrilled he's selling.

Ha - I had the same exact thought ... I doubt we'll get the same tear down, unless this investigation (should it continue) turns up some pretty nasty stuff.

An old, rich white guy making inappropriate comments to some ladies around the office.  Imagine that?  I wonder how many "quiet settlement" payments that narcissist Jerry Jones has made over the years.

The whole investigation is going to be fascinating to me, just from what was already alluded to in the SI article.  How much have they swept under the rug?  That was 4 instances of settlements with gag orders being paid out due to his behavior?  Was it just JR or was it a culture in the whole front office that he perpetuated/allowed?

To me, the timeline here says a lot.  They tried to dump the news on Friday at 4, which is PR 101 for getting something out of the news cycle quickly.  They say they're going to hold an internal investigation led by Erskine Bowles, which, while a respected community member who also formerly held public office, happens to be a partial owner of the team.  Not a great look.  Sunday AM, the SI story breaks.  Sunday afternoon, he announces he's selling the team.

That's a 48-hour stretch where it goes from trying to bury the lede to selling the team.  To me, there's plenty of fire behind this smoke.  To sell the team with no fight?  And to announce that now, week 16, heading to the playoffs?  Speaks VOLUMES.  I think there's got to be some pretty bad stuff going on down on Mint Street, and JR is hoping it never comes to light.

I hope Goodell sees this through, just out of principle.  I don't think you should be able to just choose to cash out and avoid having your reputation tarnished.

I have always thought he seemed like a jerk, but the thought of him being a womanizer has never crossed my mind.

Jerruh has his whole family running the FO, so maybe he's more insulated.  I agree though - guaranteed he's done some very inappropriate things.

Personally I think its obvious at this point that Jerry doesnt give 2 chits about what people think of him.

That's fair.  I don't think it's that hard to see though.  Product of a time when men were so dominant over women, and women were seen as being there to assist/help men.  Then add on that the wealth, the status both in the organization and community ... it all leads to an entitlement mentality.  My perspective on that is that such a personality isn't binary (on or off), it's a spectrum from nearly non-existent to Harvey Weinstein.  Where on the spectrum?  Idk.

Maybe ... but why announce you're selling the team right now?  What's to gain from it?  It's a major distraction heading into the final two weeks of the season and the playoffs beyond.

I could picture Jerry Jones being a womanizer. Richardson has always kept a low profile. He rarely spoke much in public about the team, etc. I always pictured him as not being a good communicator or people person, and only coming to the office occasionally, and mainly staying at home and counting his money.

Have to believe he expects the investigation to dredge up things that would be even more distracting.  This way he hopes to distance the team from the investigation of himself.

Didnt seem like a distraction yesterday.

Jerry announcing he is selling is just his way to try and get in front of the story.  He knows he is busted and he is playing his last power card instead of having the league and other owners force his hand.

Fair ... or he expects the NFL to drop it knowing he's going to be gone.  To me, the most plausible explanation is that he doesn't want to become the Donald Sterling of the NFL.  Would that be even more distracting for the players?  Yeah, probably ... but I don't think anyone in that position with that much to lose is not looking out for Number One.

or perhaps go away all together

I would kill to get Gettlemens take on all this.   But like I said last night the only "good" thing out of this is Hurney is done as GM.

It wasn't announced until after the game ... but I agree he's trying to control the situation.  It's just akin to flipping the monopoly game up in the air.   It's the nuclear option.

That and the hope that we don't have a meddling owner in the future.  Though I fear this will lead to Hurney running the 2018 draft.

He is def there for the draft but how bad can he eff it up?  I wonder how long its going to take to assemble various groups together and get them vetted and approved for a sale.

My buddy pointed out yesterday, much like the Joepa situation, that Jerry is an old man with another heart so this stress is going to be terrible for him

Richardson has done some good things for sick children, etc. I guess he has always been somewhat of an enigma due to how much he has stayed out of the spotlight. The only time we usually see him is news footage or pictures of him riding around on that golf cart at a practice, or sitting in his box seat during the games. He always has a frowny face, but that must be his natural expression from how his face formed over time.   <---- JR

I think the contract negotiations Hurney had with Davis and Olsen were good and fair, and I also think him trading Benjamin for a couple draft picks was a good move too.

P-Diddy wants to buy the team and said his first order of business will be to sign Kaep.
I googled his net worth last night and yeah the math isnt going to work out very well for him.  I wonder if Balmer would be interested or even Vince McMahon (he is from Havelock, NC)

After the past few months, it is hard not to picture powerful rich dudes coming on to anything in a dress. It's like pro athletes and infidelity -- I'm sure there are some who are faithful to their wives/girlfriends, but there is literally not one of them who I'd be surprised to learn was getting action on the side.

Actually it was probably done to preclude the NFL revoking his franchise. The team should fetch 1.5 billion plus if they revoke he gets nothing.

Can't imagine that ever happening. You think Jerry Jones doesn't have a few skeletons in his closet? Jim Irsay maybe? None of those guys want to set a precedent in case they are the next in line.

My guess is it would be less skeletons and more getting tied up in court.

I was just kidding about the wife part.
