Well SF let us down. I would have loved to gone in to this game with a chance to tie it up with New Orleans. Today is going to suck. I am 5 hours from home and I have a long bid meeting to attend. I should make it home just before the game starts though.

Actually I'm thrilled with the outcome. If we're that good we take care of business on our own.

Being thrilled that New Orleans won their game is weird. Not only is New Orleans a division rival, the Panthers are chasing them for 1st place.

We play them twice and they go to Seattle. We control our destiny.

That said, I'm not getting greedy and will be more than happy with the #5 spot. NO beating SF means we're still in the 5 spot even if we lose tonite.

New Orleans is close enough to Seattle to overtake them for 1st, Carolina is not. If you win the Diivision New Orleans would go to Seattle just like all the NFC teams would go to Seattle eventually because they get the No 1 seed and are a very difficult opponent at home. I actually think the Panthers might stand a better chance at advancing if New Orleans gets the number one seed rather than the Seahawks because the Panthers have won in New Orleans before , its not so far and it is a familiar situation.

Certainly, I thought he was talking about you guys overtaking us in the division because we play them and then you twice. If that happens you win the division and get one bye week perhaps and a home game and then you hit the road to Seattle. Thats what I am saying. I am talking long term based on the short term. Either way the Saints and Panthers are both making the playoffs. You guys have looked very solid lately.

The head of officials spoke out about it, and said the officials went through the proper mechanics, and made a judgment call. I also don't think the whole nation is appalled that Brady didn't get bailed out for one more try.

I just pointed out logical errors and/or people not fully grasping rules and/or reviewing... I have never argued that it was the right call

The reason I mentioned it is I have heard a decent number of fans take the Dolphins lightly. I don't think at 5-5 they are necessarily world beaters but they have a lot to play for this Sunday just from a pride standpoint not to mention they are still in the playoff hunt.

I don't know any either. The Cats have improved, but they still have many flaws. I'm just glad they have some confidence now, and know they can close out games, and they can overcome mistakes. One game at a time.

Basically every major TV or radio show I have seen it has been the first thing mentioned... "not to take away anything from Carolina, they proved they are legit BUT call was a joke and blah blah"

Again, pissed about what? The call went Carolina's way. In their profession they know there will be controversial calls. I doubt they give two ####s about the debate of was it the right call or not. As for the highlight taking away from a well played game, Carolina has always preferred flying under the radar.

You have to do it more often than this to prove anything. I mean this was actually the first time Cam drove the team to a score that late and actually got the win. So we have proved we can do it once. We haven't proved we can do it over and over until we actually do it over and over. Right now we should be very concerned about the running game. It sucked and they were 30th against the run. We should be very concerned about the defensive breakdown in the third and fourth quarters. We should be very concerned about the crappy tackling we witnessed. This team isn't even close to being dominant in the ways we have come to expect from the teams Bass mentioned.

This team is continuing to find ways to win. I liked the second half adjustments and attitude change. The two 4th downs were huge plays. Ugly wins count just the same as much as pretty ones. Tampa Bay has now won 3 in a row. This is going to be a a full on NFC South throw down I think.

The dark side: Sunday’s loss to Buffalo moved the Panthers to 2-14 under coach Ron Rivera in games decided by a touchdown or less. They also appear to have lost safety Charles Godfrey for the year with an Achilles injury, which will handicap an already fragile secondary.

Smitty covered the TE when he shouldn't have resulting in a penalty. He also has caught the dropitis for Ginn this year. Don't get me wrong, I still love the guy, but I think his level of play has slipped just a bit.

I was absolutely shocked he made that call. I was a huge fan of it because even if they didn't make it, Miami would be conservative and take the FG. I figured we would be down 6 with 1:30 to 2:00 to comeback. I thought that Ron would punt thinking the defense would hold and we would get the ball back.

I guess he learned a lot from last year and the Buffalo game. Dude isn't putting anything in the defense's hands late anymore.

The covering up the TE call could have cost the game. I think they should be able to go out and check with the line judge before they get set, just like they do to keep from lining up offsides. Point to the guy and ask if you're good where you are lined up. Does having an extra foot/yard off the line give an advantage or somehow trick the defense at all? Why is it even a penalty?

How many coaches go for it on 4th and 10 deep in their own territory with two timeouts left and more than two minutes remaining?

It's not going to be long before Riverboat Ron will be getting CoY consideration.

Been thinking about that call. I can't argue with his decision since it worked, but man....not sure I'd be able to make it. Listening to Smith and Captain on WFNZ....these guys thrive off calls like that by the coaching staff.

I was absolutely shocked he made that call. I was a huge fan of it because even if they didn't make it, Miami would be conservative and take the FG. I figured we would be down 6 with 1:30 to 2:00 to comeback. I thought that Ron would punt thinking the defense would hold and we would get the ball back.

I guess he learned a lot from last year and the Buffalo game. Dude isn't putting anything in the defense's hands late anymore.

I think it's more like he is willing to trust his offense. This team is where it is because of the D and Rivera is a defense guy. And really at this point he has nothing to lose. If they don't close out strong he is packing for a new town. Heck they may need to at least get to the playoffs to keep Getts from doing a more intense coaching search. Personally I hope they re-up Ron.

You know what I was thinking about yesterday...Smith and Captain spending more time prepping for the game and less time on the radio (although I enjoy listening to them).

Captain got toasted every way imaginable yesterday.

Smitty covered the TE when he shouldn't have resulting in a penalty. He also has caught the dropitis for Ginn this year. Don't get me wrong, I still love the guy, but I think his level of play has slipped just a bit.

I have stayed away from any Panthers from a fantasy football standpoint. Not that there isn't talent to be had. I just like watching and pulling for them to win. I don't care who scores the TD or how it is scored. I just want it scored.

Big game tomorrow. I think, or at least I hope, Miami was a wake up call. We aren't so good we can mail it in. And we were kind of sleep walking that first half. Well the D wasn't bad but the O blew some chances. Tampa is improving so better get on them quick. We have to keep the pressure on the Saints and hope they lose to Seattle. Love to go into that Sunday night game with the chance to come out on top of the South.

Nice solid win. This is a team they should beat and they did. Workmanlike really, Team shows once again these aren't the fragile Cats of the last couple of seasons. Shrugged off the two picks and kept on going. Easier to do with a great defense on the field of course. They have really done everything they can to have a chance to control their own destiny. And now no matter what happens in Seattle this team still has a chance to take this division. Not going to be easy though.

After three weeks of nail biters, it was nice to have a relaxing blowout. Obviously I'm hoping to win out, but realistically, I think we'll split with New Orleans. We SHOULD be New York and Atlanta...but you never know.

It's going to be really hard to beat NO in NO. I would take a split if we win out otherwise. But talk about a statement game. If we can go into NO and win that should certainly put the rest of the league on serious notice. And we haven't been a bad travel team this year.

Which I assume is why they sat Johnson yesterday. Better to have him full on ready to beat up on the NO O-line.

6. San Fran 8-4, 5-3 conf (we have a two game lead based on head to head)

7. Philly 7-5, 6-2 conf

8. Arizona 7-5, 4-5 conf (holds head to head tie break vs. us)

Ran the numbers, we have no shot a number one seed. A split with New Orleans won't get us the conference.

San Fran and Arizona play in week 17. Both have Seattle on the schedule. Worst case is either SF at 12-4 which means Arizona finishes 10-6 best case or SF at 11-5 with Arizona at 11-5. Philly and Dallas play in week 17. Best case for the loser is 10-6.

Two wins gets us clear of Philly/Dallas loser. We lose out in a three way tie at 11-5 with Ari/SF, but the odds of that tie happening are slim. I'm going to say that 2 wins locks up a playoff spot.

Franchise record 8 in a row, best defense in the league, Cam and Tolbert destroying defenses, Ginn foreclosing on Revis island, Rivera/Shula making people forget about Bill Walsh and it's dead in here.
