****The 2019 Carolina Panthers Thread**** We Rhule At Losing (2 Viewers)

What if...

we traded Cam and 2.8 to Cleveland for 1.1 Myles Garrett and 1.12 Mike Williams or Christain McCaffrey and 2.1 DeShaun Watson and used 1.8 for Fournette.   :scared:

You could also sign Cutler to compete with Watson.   :scared: :scared:

Would you do it???

That would take huge brass ones. But man nobody would be talking about anything else.

Oh and you better hit on every one of those picks.

I like to think it's because they were trying therapy to try to avoid surgery.
bingo!

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2017/03/21/lingering-pain-led-to-cam-newton-decision-to-have-surgery/

“We developed a plan for Cam to take a period of rest, a period of rehabilitation and treatment, and then start a gradual throwing program the first part of March,” Vermillion said. “Cam started his program, and the early parts of his rehab had been going well. However, as we worked to advance him into the next stage – the strengthening stage, the throwing stage – he started to have an increase in his pain level and started having pain while throwing.”

Pretty sure the plan was to be checking at this point. That way, even with surgery, he'd be back by camp. I think everyone, including Cam was hoping to avoid surgery, but they were smart to have a checkpoint so that surgery didn't come late enough to cause an issue with training camp. The way the CBA removed so many offseason practices, the OTAs aren't much anymore aside from rookie/UDFA/late FA signees participation.

Stewart signs a one year extension.  You can forget about Fournette at 8.  Going to be a DE there.

As it should be.  Both lines are old and/or have too many expiring contracts.

In a perfect world, Solomon Thomas will still be available there.

Details haven't been made available but his cap number does go down and if we miss one a big name we can take on a guy who needs a little time.
Not sure why we would need the cap number to go down.  We've got a gazzallion guys rostered.

Show your work.

Cutting him would be the cap saving move.

By shoring up the Oline, dline (depth), secondary and a speedy slot guy I have to assume DG will for once bypass the BPA strategy and go for a pick that makes a ton of sense team wise and snag LF.  Obviously assuming he is there and especially since there are no LT's that are rated in the top 10 anyway.  I wouldnt be opposed to trading down which would be cool but I am still planning on LF being on the team next season.  It makes too much sense.  A nasty physical runner that can take the heat off of Cam trying to score and getting the tough yards.  From what it seems the team still wants to be a grind it out offense so that pick works.  Another dline pick would just be overkill for this particular season.  Face our window is getting tight.

I'm not sure LF is the best pick there. I'm not even sure he's the best RB that will.be available. Just not sold.

Cub always wants the Panthers to draft the fantasy football players.

The lines are the biggest need, not a RB that is going to watch Cam call his own number inside the 5 as always.

You said it was a cap saving move. No point in saving cap money this year if you don't have a plan for it. Also cutting him would be the biggest cap saving move

How do you know there isnt a plan for it?   We still have a slew of cuts from other teams to navigate through when the time comes.

Panthers sign QB Garrett Gilbert mostly as a camp arm apparently. One year contract he has never taken a snap in a real game.

Do you like thomas better than Barnett?  I'm not sure if take thomas over taco but wouldn't argue either way.  I just think Barnett is the 2nd best de.

I do like Thomas much more than Barnett.

i think teams will be able to run the ball right at Barnett.

Sacramento Bee reporting that the Panthers are trying to trade into the number 2 spot allegedly to secure Fournette. But what if the top pick is a QB and Garrett is there? Oh Dave would have quite the conundrum.

Not sure how much stock I put in the report. I don't think the Panthers are so desperate they trade away the draft for any one guy. It would really run counter to everything we know about DG. There will be a good guy available at 8.

There should be no reason to trade up to the 2 for Fournette.  It's more likely he's still there at 8 than he goes top 3 (so they could trade up with the Jags). Worst case they take cook.

KK signed a 5 year 80 million dollar contract with the Panthers. Details are not available but it is being reported that about half the money will be paid out in the first two years of the deal. We'll see soon enough.

Ok, I'm officially on board the CMac train.  I think this kid is going to be the versatile playmaker the offense needs.  JStew pounding and CMac all over the field, motioning to the slot, etc.

Most people will say 8 is too early, but if he's the guy then he's the guy, whether at 8 or 15 or whatever.

Well he is looking to go in the top 10. And there are some.guys who will be available later we could pair that pick with. Stew isn't getting any younger. So we could get a young guy who can make big plays from.several spots and a young guy to run between the tackles.

^ or LF at 8 and trade back up to get CM.  Wishful thinking
Or LF at 8 and Alvin Kamara in the second. Fournette gives you that bruising power back. Kamara gives you a guy with speed and the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Most draft predictions have him lasting until the second round.

RB in the first two rounds?  No thanks.  Get one of them and then address other needs.
It's a weak draft for a lot of positions. If you get the chance to get two playmakers for either side of the ball I'm good even if it means double dipping. Kind of like how we got KK.

I'm glad to have KK taken care of.  Mock drafts are having LF move into the top 5.  I don't think I'd want to trade up just for him.  I wouldn't mind landing CMac in the first, but it would be nice if we could trade down a few spots and still get him.

He's projected into the top 10 at this point.

I'll be content with whatever happens *except* for 1) trading up to get LF or 2) taking Howard at 8.  I think there is so much talent in the first two rounds that trading away one of them to move up to 5 or whatever to take LF is a mistake.  And from what I've read this is a pretty stacked TE class, so addressing that in round 2 or 3 would be great.  Too much talent at pick 8 at impact positions to take Howard at TE.

Lots of trade activity in front of us would be awesome, because it would likely mean 1 or 2 QB's go, dropping more talent to us to pick from.

I'm just not that impressed when you get past the top couple of guys in any of these and I'm not even that impressed with the top guys in some of these. I could be wrong and if we get one of those guys I hope I am

Damn man, you are a curmudgeon! I love this draft and I'm 100% looking forward to Friday. I think those 3 picks could set us up well if we grab the right guys. I like almost all of the 16 guys who've visited that are in the late 1st to late 2nd consideration.

I want to be wrong but I'm just not sold on some of these guys I keep seeing get pushed. That doesn't mean there aren't guys I like but so far the guys I like at RB and WR for example are being projected in the second. I hope Fournette is the second coming of AP if we pick him at 8 I'm simply not convinced he will be. I'm worried about Kalil at tackle. Is he the guy we saw as a rookie or the guy we've seen ever since? Does Peppers really have that much left? If not where does the pass rush come from? Just a lot of questions.  But again no one will be happier than me to be proved wrong. Everyone play well, draft picks kick ### and Cam gets his mojo back. I just am not feeling it right now.

Fournette is solid. With Stewart, Cam, Olsen, KB and either Funchess or more likely the WR we grab in the second (Chris Godwin or Zay Jones), he would be a monster. He will absolutely make Cam more effective. I love our day 2 picks. Most of our pre-draft visits are around round 2 and potentially moving up from 98.

If Thomas isn't available, getting Fournette at 8 without trading up would be the best result IMHO. I'd love to see that.

Mocks have him going to SF at two and Mccaffery to us at 8. They also have us going TE in the second.
