****The 2019 Carolina Panthers Thread**** We Rhule At Losing (4 Viewers)

pretty solid post there
Yeah and I agree with the general thrust of it. But to JR for moment. The thing is if it was a one off with no evidence would he have sold the team as soon as it was broken? Of course not. So it's highly likely he was more afraid of the next shoe than he wanted to keep the team. And there was a little melodrama in that post as well. He isn't on Elba. He is in his expensive home , socializing with his wealthy friends, getting around in his private jet, and living a life we can scarcely dream of. And hey he earned that money so have fun JR.

As to MeToo. The Ansari thing swung that pendulum back a bit. You see more pushback now. Context is important. There is a problem. It has long been a problem. We all need to take a look at ourselves and honestly asess our behavior. Make sure we arent that guy. And men like Weinstein who have been accused of committing sexual crimes should be investigated and if warranted arrested and charged. But every one isn't Harvey.

He didnt try and rape someone and from all accounts he didnt try and screw someone.  He is just from the Mad Men world of office antics.  Granted that is not cool, at all and I am not defending him but much like Sterling he didnt hurt those women, didnt scar those women and didnt do anything malicious to them out of spite.   I just know he did a ton of good stuff for the city and the people and now the local media is conveniently forgetting that in the name of the #metoo movement.  But yeah like I said, he was getting senile and its probably best for the health of the franchise to move in another direction.

Didn't mean to be melodramatic but in reality, his name is mud, his legacy is asunder, etc. Money isn't everything (said by one who has very little).

As far as his lightning fast capitulation yeah there is probably something to it, and Morrison leaving could be connected as well. I wonder if Rosalind said you better not embarrass me any further. To understate.

So both Kalils are 100% to start this year. Matt did actually improve last year. IIRC in his last 12 games he allowed 3.5 sacks. And to be fair we all know Cam sometimes holds the ball too long. The Panthers were second in the league running to the left which was a huge improvement over the year before. Hopefully with a full off-season he will get back to the form that made him a high first round pick. And of course Ryan could be back to to near that elite level we are used to as well. That would certainly be huge for this offense especially given the transition they will be making this year.

Luke got 5th best player in the NFL from PFF and KK got number 23. When you look at KK's number he has performed at a consistently high level. And of course we know all about Luke.

So DJ Moore signed a contract today. Of course a lot less drama these days on signing but still nice to have it done.
Everybody seems to be going nuts over the kid, from the media, coaches, other players etc.  I think its fantastic.  From team/offense standpoint I think he is going to fit in nicely and contribute immediately but from a fantasy angle I wouldnt sniff the kid this year.

I play in a local league where Panthers go early. I suspect he'll go by the 3rd in that league. I think thats where McCaffery went

Well it had been pretty quiet. That's over. A woman has accused Vernon Butler saying he assaulted her in a Dallas night club a couple of weeks ago. Said he threw ice in her face and pushed her down some stairs then pushed her again. She was the one who got escorted out by security but that doesn't necessarily mean she wasn't the victim. Most clubs have video so I guess we'll see.

Darryl Williams goes down with knee injury. Moton next up.
It's a bummer Williams got hurt. A dislocated kneecap and torn MCL doesn't sound good. Hopefully Moton will make the most of his opportunity.

If there is a silver lining it's that it happened so early. The recovery time is in the 6 week range so best case scenario he could be back very early in the season

i watched 99.9% of the panther games last year and i swear i dont remember Williams being as good as everyone is saying.  maybe its just me

i see that but my memory doest register that.  i thought the line play overall last year was sub par especially in passing
Actually the line played fairly well. Guard play was excellent. RT was good all year.  LT picked up as the year went on. We were one of the best teams running to the left and his sacks allowed was really low the last 10 games.

you are probably right it just seemed to me the pocket broke down quickly prompting cam to run

It's too bad Cockrell broke his leg. He should be able to return in a few weeks. His return is more likely than Williams. Hopefully no more injuries will happen. The good news is Donte Jackson has been playing well in camp so far. Hopefully the Cats struck gold with the rookie.

Yeah everybody has had good things to say about Jackson. Coach has compared him to Josh Norman a couple of times.

No comments on Cam / Benji feud?

Anyone excited to watch CMac this year?
On Cam and Benjamin that whole thing seems odd. Cam was one of the people who really defended Benjamin. Seemed pretty upset when he was traded. So I really don't get the whole thing. Just made Benjamin look bad. Even though everyone who commented on it acknowledged Cam's problems with accuracy they also mentioned Benjamin own issues and how he had his own work to do. Got to think his current QBs noticed and weren't happy.

As to CMC he looked pretty good. I think Turners system will be good for him. I think Olsen is going to be a big beneficiary as well

I'm not really crying for JR taking his billions out and all. And it looks like we came out of it okay as fans.

It's a lot that I'm not sure I trust anyone's account, that took a settlement out of it. I disagree with the mindset that ooh you hurt my feelings pay me. Now you have ever so honest and trustworthy lawyers involved. And the media is not 100% reliable, to put it mildly. We got zero context of the one time he has been accused of using a racial slur. Hell anyone can lose their temper and call someone a name. May not be proud of it afterwards either, and say I should not have done that and will never do it again. Or he may not give a damn. But you'd think if that were a regular thing it would have come out long ago. And he has done a lot of good too.

Sterling, was on tape if I recall. I think he was set up but still, it was him and he was on tape there was no wiggling out of that, no he said she said. Busted. We don't have that here. I will be interested of course, in what the NFL investigation reports. I guess lol. I would hope they don't use the same crew that investigated Ray Rice for Goodell.

I get tired of looking at his sour#### on TV and no communication from him like everyone else. But this guy gets banished to hell over stuff that possibly did not warrant it. All anyone has to do these days is cry wolf and a person is ruined, I guess that is what I would be crying over. If I were really crying.
Not to dredge up the past too much, but I'm very happy JR is gone.  The NFL investigation substantiated everything ... maybe it was the Mad Men culture you mentioned, or maybe he's a bit of a womanizer without going all the way.  Still, neither is acceptable today - nor should it be.  Glad he's gone, despite his contractual mandate that his Saddam-like statue stays up.  One of you guys left in Charlotte should accidentally back a moving truck into it.

CMC did look solid, and I was kinda shocked to see Anderson playing behind CAP and well into the 4th quarter.  Frankly the latter part shocked me.  I don't think CAP is that good, so maybe this is a playbook grasp thing at this point, but ... I think someone's going to need to complement CMC, and I'd rather that be Anderson than CAP.

OL is a concern, but what else is new?  Hopefully it all comes together.  Norwell got his - good for him.  Now they've got to find replacements since Moton's probably getting kicked out to RT for the foreseeable future (though hopefully Williams is back before too long).

Hello. I am planning on going to a game this year and was wondering for people who have gone to Panthers game what is the parking and tailgating situation like.  Is the parking on their main lot the way to go or something around the area better?

Thanks

There isn't really a "main lot". There's a bunch of spread out lots.

Personally, I like the lot at this address: 1000 W Morehead St #200, Charlotte, NC 28208. Big gravel lot in the northwest corner of the intersection of Morehead/McNinch St.  Decent tailgating/location.

From what I've read, the CAP thing was just to get him some playing time to see how he did with the 1's/2's. Anderson is definitely above him on the depth chart.

I would expect Anderson to be ahead of CAP on the depth chart as well.  I thought the first O looked pretty good on the second drive.  We didn't get to see much of them.  The defense looked shaky though.  DJ Moore made some nice plays and it looks like he is going to be exciting to watch when he catches the ball in space.

The backup QB race looks interesting too.  Thought Heinicke looked decent.

Seymour is complete garbage and just got roasted repeatedly. CB's will be Bradbury and Jackson, and it isn't close (imo), with Captain at nickel. I think they will be solid enough. More worried about safety spots.

Yeah they didn't bring in Anderson to sit behind CAP.

The defense was missing some folks from the start but did seem to improve a bit as far as being where they should be.

I think Moore could have a big year. They are focusing on safe throws and YAC.  Should mean he gets his. But Turner likes to go deep as well so I expect someone to be the new Ginn and out up some good numbers.

I am not at all impressed with the backup QBs at this point.  We'll get to see more down the line so time will tell. I'm still not convinced we arent watching the wire for a vet backup to shake loose.

Thats scary as hell quite honestly and not in a good way.  Hurney will have to bite the bullet and pick up a vet that will be cut in training cap at some point.  Its imperative to have more depth at that position especially with the wr groups in our division alone.  Some heavy hitters on every team.

So CMC seems like the real deal. He had a great rookie season but it looks like the full off-season with the team and new OC/play calling are going to take him to another level. I wouldn't be surprised if he approaches 1,800-2,000 total yards this year.

Maybe I am just a pessimist but after watching the last 2 games (watched game 2 twice, I was bored) I am thinking this is an 8-8 team.  Seems like our secondary will struggle at times esp in our division but more importantly our oline and more importantly the tackles are horrible.  Kalil got destroyed multiple times.  I mean just annihilated and let his guy crush Cam at least twice I saw.   If that doesnt get fixed, and at this point not sure how it can, then we are in for a frustrating year.

Could be. I am more worried about the secondary than the O-line. I think the offense has the opportunity to hide some of the o-line deficiencies. Hopefully the front 7 can hide the secondary deficiencies, but I'm less sure about that.

If healthy, this is a ~10 win team to me.

I think we lead the league in players already on IR.  Between the other guys hurt, suspended, or having heart surgery...you and I may need to suit up on Sunday.  This season looks like 7-9 to me.

Ok I guess we can't delete our own posts now.

We made a trade for an LT who graded out reasonably well and Kalil goes to IR. O-line going to be interesting. CMC has looked good even on inside runs. Expect the offense to run through him. Olsen looks like Olsen. The receiver corp could be good certainly a lot faster.

The defense should be pretty darn good up front. The back end is a concern but there have been some good flashes. Should be a top 10 D at least.

I'd say at least 10 wins.

And at least we didnt trade away a generational talent in a #### measuring contest.

Not going to get to see a lot of their games down here but I do like what I see today.

Though it seems Dallas is pretty hapless all on their own. That's always fun to witness

It's like our fanbase here died.

Only caught the end of the game as I was working on a project.  Good result, but costly losing Williams and Olsen.  Still seems like 7-9 or 8-8 to me unless the offense makes huge strides.

Great to see a win against Dallas and I'm excited to see what Norv can bring to the offense.  But with this O-line I don't see us winning more than 6 games this season.  Cam is going to take a lot of sacks again this year.

Hate to see Olsen go down again.  If his foot is broken again, he may retire and head to the booth.  But hopefully Thomas will develop faster than planned and become a weapon.  Luke gave us a scare too when he went down.

I don't know what we're going to do with the O-line.  Maybe they can talk Gross to put on 150 lbs and come back.

I fear 6-10 and no playoffs.  Have to rebuild the line.
