The Americans (2 Viewers)

Can't wait for this show, so underrated at the award shows, with barely any noms
Because it isn't that good.
The first couple of episodes were bad, but I think it hit its stride pretty early and ran smoothly to the end - the Gregory episodes were two of the best TV eps I saw all year. I think it's pretty damned good (much better than trash I enjoy like Walking Dead & AHS).
Oh it definitely got better. Much better. But it's still not really award-worthy IMO.
I don't think it's that far off of being in the running for awards. As long as they keep focusing on the characters and their relationships, I can forgive some of the silly stuff that drives people crazy - like Phillip's "Clark" wig and the car chase at the end of the season. For whatever reason, I connect with several of the characters and that gets me hooked.

Hell, Breaking ####### Bad - the best TV show of its type I've ever seen - nudged dangerously close (if not outright stepping over the line) to surrealism. Tell the story well and I'm in.

Yeah, Homeland season 2 was winning awards left and right. The Wire was never nominated for anything, the awards shows are just popularity contests without actually judging the content of the shows.
:goodposting:

If Homeland is award worthy and Clare Danes is cleaning up at award parties, it has nothing to do with shows or characters being good or bad. Breaking Bad won one Emmy for best drama series, and that was in its last season.

And to my point of it being a popularity contest, Breaking Bad only won the award when it was the biggest thing on the internet and the ratings were finally respectable

I love the show but it's just not one that I tell people that they have to watch. Solid writing and cast. I hope they do take it to another level and it gets more buzz this season. There's definitely potential for a few more seasons.

i caught the first episode of S1 on Amazon the other night. not overly impressed but i'm willing to give it a few more episodes.

Give it some more. The first few weren't good but then it got much better. The second half of the season was as good a rookie stretch as I've seen in a while.

Agreed, I think it was around episode 5 when the show took off. We contemplated giving up on it, but once it got rolling it was probably the show my wife and I most looked forward to.

I almost gave up on it too. First 2 episodes sucked. Glad I stuck around
Well Keri certainly did as well as take it in every other hole. How can a pilot that has Keri Russell getting nailed in everyway terrible?
One thing to remember is that just about everyone thought the 2nd episode sucked. Then, it got progressively better.
Which one was that? I was ok with all of them.

2nd episode = the one after the pilot.

I really liked the first episode holes and all. The second sucked then uneven but overall very enjoyable

No #### I meant what happened in it. I forget.

That was where they poisoned the black kid by "accidentally" stabbing him with an umbrella tip.

yep, I watched it in like one weekend, I started hating the show since it was so unrealistic, but then it got awesome in a hurry and never let up. Reading back my posts after watching a few episodes at a time shows my state of mind at the time.

Oh the clock. It was ok. Definitely not the best but it was early on so I was still interested.

in for tonight. this is one of those shows from last season that I gave a chance and was hooked. it started mediocre and turned very good, whereas a show like The Following started with promise and turned laughably bad.

I blasted through this a few weeks ago on Amazon. Like everybody else apparently, I thought it was pretty weak at first (the Al Haig episode was ludicrous), but I'm glad I stuck with it. It's no Breaking Bad, but I'm looking forward to season two.

Finally got caught up.

Watched the first 4-5 episodes last season, got behind, and just wasn't very motivated to catch up.

Ended up being a solid season. I finally started to get invested a little.

If the reviews are true, maybe they can follow a Justified sort of path.

First part of the first season of Justfied showed quality, but it felt a little dis-jointed and didn't totally draw you in yet. That changed quickly.

I should probably give Justified another shot.

Gave up after about 3 episodes.

I'd highly recommend it.

First season ends strong, and season 2 was really fantastic. That was the peak, but it was very high and they've stayed consistently in range of it ever since.

Losing Walton Goggins for much of the first season (after the pilot) really hurt.

Do it. I was really geeked up for that show based on the cast and previews, yet very disappointed after the first 3 or 4 episodes. It gets much better once the disparate storylines start coming together, then proceeds to knock it out of the park in season 2.

Holy #### what an opener. Lots of nudity, spy game violence right off the bat and that ending. Yea, this season is gonna be good.

So did I miss something with the Lockheed guy that was set up in the opening scene? Is he new this season?

Was he the same guy that Beeman tells to get lost later in the episode?

Yeah, that was pretty intense.

Though, I was excited to see them introduce some new Directorate S agents. Didn't last long.

Rhys and Russell were great in the "do you want the list?" scene.

I didn't really give a crap about the Beeman's in the first season, but I found that hug/movie sequence at the end to be pretty devastating. It's one thing to talk about being in an empty, detached marriage, but seeing just how nervous Sandra was just to ask her own damn husband to a movie was very effective (knowing what the we know twists the knife too, of course). The actress sold that really well.

Lockheed guy is new. The other guy was from season 1. He leaked that the us military guy was selling secrets but none of the leads panned out so they never paid the guy. He was a former informant for the Russians.

Yea not a big fan of forced drama but those two are playing it just right.

Talk about jumping in with two feet. A little uneven and forced at times, but #### .... I don't recall a show, ever, where I felt so bad about rooting for the good guys or bad about rooting for the bad guys or... You know what I mean

For Rhys to have to take care of cleaning up that first scene only to have to deal with his son and then the hotel? Damn.

What an amazing start to season two, there is no one I don't like on this show, even the kids are fine actors who aren't grating on my nerves like the Homeland kids.

My damned DVR cut off towards the end. The last part I got was Stan at the movies with his wife, then (the start of?) Phillip's voice over while Elizabeth was locking windows in the bedroom and walking away from them. Did anything else happen after?

Can someone shed some light on what happened at the carnival when Phillip had to sub for the other guy on the drop? I watched it twice but am evidently too :bag: to know if I understood it.
