Typical FFA. Never gives any show a chance to grow.
Not every episode is going to be full of intrigue and non stop action. They do have to set some things up so they don't cone out of left field.
I thought the episode was fine. Worst of the 3 so far but hardly damaging to the point of being done with the show.

I don't think it was because she was a "110lb." women, but he knew what was happening. Possibly he may have been in on some wrong doing himself?

That guy didn't seem like he would get what was happening. Would have been more believable if he stormed off suspicious or just played the slow wit worker helping pretty lady.

Goodness, this season is brutal. Nice manufactured argument between Philip/Clark and the homely chick.

Loved the episode. Great job by Philip in the manufactured fight. Not sure if she's served her usefulness and he's done with her or is he angling to get her to help him out more, probably saying he's very stressed at work. Either way, he's on her bad side now. He might be forced to take her out if he finds out she recorded him. Great acting job by Elizabeth hooking the sailor. I thought she was just purposely taking things slow because she is beginning to struggle with that part of her job but it was a brilliant move to get the sailor to help her get info on the possible family killer.
So who stopped the abduction of the scientist? I'm guessing he had some kind of Israeli protection.
I'm still amazed at the size difference between Marge Martindale and Keri Russell's heads. When they are on the same screen, like they were in the park, it's disturbing and distracting. I had to rewind to listen to what they were talking about.

lol- I was obsessed with that last night.
totally agree with you across the board... thought Russell did a fantastic, nuanced acting job in the episode- great range and great subtlety.
I enjoyed the episode- wasn't bothered with the manufactured fight... although I hope it's not just a plot device to get her to write his name down on her job application to create manufactured conflict for Phil.
I didn't think of the Israelis- thought it was a different Russian cell- but on second thought that seems stupid and I think you're right.

I love the show, but we are dragging a bit. Want a bit more balance with action and spy plots. I can watch parenthood for melodrama and sentimental relationship issues.
That said, previews seem to suggest we might be gearing up

That last scene went way too quickly, I had no idea what was flying, how many vs how many. Saw some chick on the ground, had no idea how she even got in the fight. Loved the Clarke scenes where he is picking a fight with the tramp, should lead to great fireworks.
wont complain about Page as I do that after every show, but she is starting to really annoy me with how much nonsense they show about her "rebellion." I still love this show, the two leads are amazing and the story seems to be picking up the pace as it did last year.

Elizabeth seemed to be handling the guy that attacked her better than Phil did with the woman that attacked him. The woman got up and took off with the car.

I'm not sure how her getting a new boss will play into this. If he's bringing his own secretary, that would make her useless, but if they keep her in that same post, she's even more useful.

I didn't see it as that. I saw it as him taking an opportunity to get out of there quicker to go do the job he needed to. Him being a veteran of marriage by this point has several years of experience at pointless arguments and knew just what to pull out to get a quick exit.

Good episode again. I like the little angles they take. It would have been incredibly easy to go the bang the lonely guy to get him to do anything for you route. She played it even deeper to give him an extra psychological incentive to help her. Well done.
I agree the Paige plot is confusing. I assume it has some meaning for her. Hopefully nothing stupid like her little friend is a soviet spy watching over her or some ridiculous nonsense.

Seems like an overly dramatic thing to do to get away. She knows he works in a business that when you get called, you have to go. No questions asked. I hope he has bigger plans than just doing that to get out of the house.

How many times can you use the old "I'm sorry honey work called." The mom on the phone was a gift. He got her to feel guilty. Plus it makes the marriage seem more real. Have they fought at all on screen to that point? If everything is too good, people start to question things.

I didn't love the episode. I don't really care too much about the daughter and all that. the last couple minutes were exciting, though. Russian spies versus the Mossad should make for some interesting convos & action.

I was wondering how it would be received in here... figured there wasn't going to be enough action for most. But agree- some good #### tonight. Both leads are really settling into their roles and getting some great writing and direction.
Still can't tell what smarmy russian diplomat is up to.., ideas? And I ####### love his Citroen DS, btw.

I think there's a lot more to him than meets the eye. We've been led to believe that he's a politician's son but he's been making all the right moves nonchalantly to be a double agent. Maybe he's KGB meant to keep tabs on their own people. Or maybe he is undercover but wants to defect. Who knows. Hes holding a lot of cards.
The car ride with Phillip and the Jewish scientist reached rare territory for tv/film.
You have a lead, that you are bizarrely rooting for, and in that moment you want him to die. You agree with the scientist. Phillip is a monster.
Such a mixed bag of emotions with this show. I almost wish Noah Emmerich wasn't a philanderer and more of a guy to get behind. Would really enhance the dynamic of the show.

You keep seeing them both get pushed to a point where you think they'll change but they continue to follow orders. Good point on Beeman. I guess the writers are keeping us unsure of who to get behind. I get the sense that at some point they're going to become double agents and work for the US.

That's the joy of this show. There are no good guys. Except some of the random innocent characters who get caught up in this. Even Beeman has his weaknesses in letting down his family.
In the end, we are rooting for the bad guys. But even at their worst, theirs is a noble cause, albeit the negative image of ours. And perhaps this is where we have the only true innocents and the place where even as noble soldiers for their country, how can put two protagonists raise their kids to be the very American image that runs completely counter to that noble cause itself. They are raising their own children to become the enemy.
And that is why I refer to pace. It's the pace of plot and character development. Of emotional tugs of not knowing who to root for. It's not about the fights and action but about the intruigue, suspends and twists.
And in that way it's unlike any tv I've seen. You got some of it in the Sopranos by rooting for murderers, but the rules and roles were far more clear. There was still a code to live by and a general attempt to not cross certain lines. Those lines aren't just blurred in The Americans, they are completely dissolved.

agreed. felt really abbreviated/rushed. and I thought the scenes with the two of them were pretty great- with Russell doing some fantastic acting work with that kid in particular.
