I've been getting a lot of compliments from teh wimmenz on mi Cole Haan grey wingtip dress/sneaks...they got an ill neon green base. Just saying fellas, time to step it up and stop dressing like slobs. Women notice and that's why most of you are racist.

Those are nice, I'd wear those for sure.
Yep...the wingtip works perfectly with the color. Peacock in :style: :bowtie:

Hella comfortable as well.

I'm very happy with my walnut Allen Edmonds 'Clifton' Oxfords I bought a month ago. By far the best pair of shoes I've ever owned. That's not saying much, but still...

Now with this nice sale AE is running, I might need another pair already. Black is probably the most practical, but I really like that bourbon color. Fifth Avenue and Kenilworth are both tempting.

yep, AE is timeless quality. Always a good buy during the summer sales. Major has been doing some retail damage lately.

Kenilworth are  and I agree that the bourbon look the best

Black is out for shoes. If you want to see the difference between the walnut and bourbon color, here are my Fifth Avenues in walnut and Dalton boots in bourbon.

I've been eyeing similar boots for a while now i.e. classic :style: but black is never out, guy.

Black is never out, but it is the neutral that I am least likely to wear.

Thanks, that helps. They may be a little closer in color than I realized. Is that the bourbon version of the Manistee belt? I have the walnut.

I have a dark charcoal suit that needs some shoes. The walnut ones aren't dark enough imo. Especially for a wedding.

I'm not seeing a grey with green bottom combo GB. You mean yellow soles?

it's a neon yellow hue, my bad yo!

That is the manistee belt in bourbon. What I heard from AE is that the bourbon shoes actually start off as walnut and then are given a darker polish to bring out the bourbon color, so they really are close in color. When there was a seconds sale a month ago, I got those Dalton boots for $199 and the Fifth Avenues Brooks Brothers version for $149. I also recently got these blue suede Spiaggia's when they were on clearance for $117.

These shoes are catching my eye, but I'm having trouble actually picturing how I'd wear them. Boots with a suit/dress slacks? Or are you guys wearing these with jeans and a nice outfit?

I'm not hip enough to pull this off...or rich enough to drop $200 on a pair of shoes, but a guy can dream.

I've been looking for some good plain oxford dress shoes and while I like the Cole Haan Air Madison Plain Oxford (sorry, no link as I forget how to put a name in place of the link), $250 is more than I'm looking to spend. In fact, I'd spend the $250 but for 2 pairs.

Anyone have good options for this?

be patient and wait for sales...I got 2 pairs of bruno magli shoes (450 retail per) for $125/150 each.

Did you quote the wrong post? The Clifton Oxfords are shoes, not boots. Can be worn with just about any pants.

How and where would I see the sales for those shoes? I get emails periodically from Cole Haan but I know the Bruno Magli are on another tier altogether.

Yes, boots with a nice pair of jeans and a well fitted, tailored sport coat....not a dry seat in the house.

When you buy these (or Allen Edmonds, ect.), expect to own them for 10+ years. It will give you a better sense of the value.

Yeah, AE are fairly priced and don't go on deep discount very often. I don't mind paying retail on AE.

AE definitely has pretty deep discounts (30-50% off), and are having one now. Plus you can get high-quality seconds from their outlets, often at 50% off retail. You usually won't notice anything wrong with the seconds, and they are eligible for AE's recrafting service where you ship them your shoes and they send them back looking brand new for $125. I have four shoes from AE now. Combined retail on them was $1428, price I paid was $614.

I doubt there are any outlets near here, but I'll check.
You just have to call or e-mail them your order and they ship it to you for free. I use the Jeffersonville, Ohio, store even though I'm in Los Angeles. When the outlets are having sales/specials, you just have to e-mail them your size and they'll e-mail you back a list of all shoes they have in stock on special in your size.

Update: stopped at the local AE store after work Thursday to see these in person and check the fits.

I didn't like how the Fifth Avenue looked in black, so I ended up getting black Kenliworths. They didn't have those in my size, but they're being shipped to me from the warehouse.

90% sure I'll be ordering the bourbon Fifth Avenues sometime before this sale ends. $239 for that shoe is just too nice to pass up. The guy checked the system, and not even the warehouse had them in my size. But they can make them and have them shipped.

Add in a belt for each color, and this is getting expensive. :oldunsure:

be careful. JV shoes look good but, imo, use crap materials for construction.
Don't get those...JV used to be quality but they've gone mainstream since the late 2000s and now more into producing overpriced quantity. Still a decent brand, you just have to be selective. Some pieces are better than others.
I've owned them for 3-4 months now. Solid. comfortable, no signs of wear/tear.

Well, ####... now it occurs to me that three pairs of leather soled shoes as my only choices may be a problem during the winter. Thankfully winter only lasts about two months here, but still...

Black Hills may be a decent option for $167.

Shoes, Belts and Jeans are staples that can be worn over and over for a long period of time. Invest in quality base staples and you won't be disappointed. A nice pair of quality shoes or jeans steps your entire outfit up even if you have a $8 t-shirt on. Just makes everything else seem that much more :style:

Frye's are great boots....still have a pair from college that have held up well (i'm close to my 15 year reunion)

Need a good, comfortable, semi-stylish shoe/boot for a mid-winter trip to Europe. We'll be doing a ton of walking, and I imagine it will be pretty damn cold. Don't want to bring a ton of shoes in the luggage, so needs to be versatile.

Like the convenience of zappos VIP if you can recommend something from there.
